  1. Hey, I bought 23 Komodo Kamado two year ago on November 2013. I have been very happy with the excellent product and service of Dennis. I had a situation that I lost the silicone plug for the barbecue guru. Well, about nine months later I was looking in the box that came with the barbecue.Sure enough Dennis put in five extra plugs. I must honestly say that does not surprise me. That is just the way Dennis is. I found the original the next day. This summer we are trying to keep the house cool. We have been using the Komodo daily. We do rice, pasta, bread, pies, vegetables, meats and whatever we wish to cook. This is after we had to buy a new stove. We used the oven once to check it out. We have not used it since. ( except for morning coffee ). I think I should consider buying another Komodo Kamado. Now, however, there are so many to choose from. These Komodos are additive. That great feeling you get from buying something new and cool has not worn off yet. I do not think it ever will. Somedays, I just sit in the backyard and enjoy the view of my Ultimate 23 Komodo Kamado. I cannot say that about anything else I have ever bought. enif420
  2. The Catch-all, The Cure and The Cook. Well, a few forgotten items. Dennis likes stainless steel. He really likes 304 stainless steel. He puts a whole bunch of it in his grills. You do not have to upgrade because he only does it one way, the right way. You even get a stainless steel drip pan. Fantastic. You, also get a heat deflector. Great. Better than my other one that came with my old kamado. Most of all, he adds the hardware for a rotisserie. I alway wanted a rotisserie from day one on my old kamado. Why? Well, my grandmother had a Farberware rotiserrie. She always cooked a roast on it for the holidays. It brings back so many fond memories. You have to buy the basket and the motor but it is all set to go after those accessories are added. I will purchase these accessories in the future. Really, Dennis, who gives you a stainless steel drip pan with a grill. As for a few missed reasons, you guys must like to cook or you would not be interested in a Komodo Kamado. The lady of the house will get lots of R and R as you barbecue your grill off. However, she just might really take a liking to it and conficate it. She might just say get your own. Women, enjoy cooking with the Komodo Kamado, just as much as the guys do. WARNING WARNING These Tiled Komodo Kamado grills are addictive. It is hard to stop at one or two. I would like to get another one, a pebble black 19", or maybe a 32" Bad Boy. Maybe a small 16" Komodo Kamado. If my wife found this out, I would be sleeping out in the Komodo Kamado (I would not fit, of course no 32" Bad Boy here yet). Investment, I think it is a good investment. One that will always make you happy and what investment can cook a prime rib for you. The cure went extremely well. I brought out the Barbecue guru ( a ten year old model ) and to my amazment the meat thermometer fit through the meat probe port no problem. No bending. I ramped it up 25 degrees at a time and noticed that the thermometer on the upper lid of the Komodo Kamado read a little bit higher. I was only using the grill temp probe. At 375 degrees, I went manual. I gradually ramped it up to 490 degrees. Two hours 45 minutes later nothing. I mean nothing no fumes or smells, that I could detect. So let's crank this baby up. I slowly bought the temp to 720 and then backed it down. When it got to 460 degrees, I placed, for my first cook, an apple pie (my wife's masterpiece). I noticed small buubles on the meat port side of the Komodo. It was in between the tiles coming out of the grout, for a while. Then nothing. I cooled the Komodo down a little bit further. About an hour and a half later the pie was done. We used the drip pan as a serving tray and got compliments on the pie as well as, the drip pan. It was a great Thankgiving all the way around. I will say that I noticed the new Komodo Kamado and its coconut charcoal cooks more smoothly than my old one. You can shut it down before your barbecue is finished.I noticed that this can be started earlier than my old one becuase Komodo holds the heat so much better. This is how you can keep every meat dish cooked and moist. It is a real pleasure to cook with such a fine precision instrument as the Komodo Kamado. I just want to document my experience on the purchase of a 23" Utimate Komodo Kamado Colbalt Blue. Anyone, thinking about purchasing a Komodo Kamado, will have an idea of how my purchase went. I highly recommend a Komodo Kamado, remember the sooner you get Komodo the longer you can enjoy it. I am a really really really Happy Camper. Pics,of course, of the grill and the pie.
  3. I measured with a tape measure. I got 1 5/16 inside diameter and 2 1/16 inches thickness of guru port wall. This is on a 23 though.
  4. One can find many reasons to buy a Komodo Kamado. First, in my opinion, it is the best kamado grill out there. You will not find, too many, if any, arguments about that fact on the web. Second, it will enhance and add elegance to anyone's backyard. Both guys and gals seem to mostly agree on that point. No family arguments. Third, with this style of grill, you spent more time visiting and less time cooking. Fourth, I believe that this style of grill uses less energy and saves money. I cooked a 5 lb. prime rib for my uncle with a little more than two coconut charcoal chunks. I really like the coconut charcoal and will not barbecue with any other charcoal. It burns hotter than other commercial charcoal without imparting any distinctive favor. You can choose a small chunk of wood to impart any favor you desire. Metal grills radiate the heat off all surface areas and are prone to rust.. The Komodo Kamado holds the heat inside more efficiently. If you are buying wood and using an open or closed grill, I believe that it is a more expensive way to go. I barbecued a turkey, one year, In a downpour. No problem. I feel, anyway, even if it is more expensive; it is a better way to go. Fifth, there is a old world ambiance about lighting a fire, and barbecuing some meat. The high tech gas barbecues, I feel lose this special feeling. You might as well cook inside your kitchen. With the Komodo Kamado, you have cooking diversity. Sixth, this is a barbecue that you can pass on to family. It will carry all the memories that go with the Komodo Kamado. Before, I bought my first kamado grill; I talked to a guy that said his father had his kamado grill (unknown kamado) for forty years. Seventh, it has a survivor aspect to it. If all gas and electricity go out, you are good to go. Especially, if, you have a pallet of charcoal in the garage. Yet, you will use this every spring, summer, and fall, and possibly winter to keep your skills up. Finally, I think the reason I bought my Komodo Kamado is because I just wanted to have some fun added to my life. Vernon M California
  5. Let me tell you from experience that you can look at all the pics on the web but having one in front of you is a totally different experience. There is so much here; I do not know where to begin. Let's start at the top. The vent that has two wings what style. Yet, those wings could be used to adjust the vent. The gasket between the top lid and the vent is ballistic. The top lid has a latch that seals the top and the bottom together. Great feature. Upon opening up the lid, you will notice that the top lid opens so effortlessly. This is done by one spring that is neatly tucked away in the back of the grill. Again style and function. Now, that the top lid is up let's look inside. The grills are unmatched by any grills that I have ever seen in a home unit. There are 3 layers of grills. Lower, main and upper grills. Notably the upper grill is of one piece construction. Great feature again. The basket for your charcoal is over sized. Fantastic. It can be enhanced by the basket splitter as an accessory. This is a fantastic feature that shows insight and thoughtfulness. There is a split firebox for expansion. Great. The main lower part of the Komodo Kamado flows gracefully into the feet. There is a sense of proportionality to the Komodo Kamado that is pleasing to the eye. The wheels are hidden beneath the feet. Another great feature of the Komodo Kamado. The wheels by the way are oversized to my experience. I just when out to look at the Komodo Kamado and realized there is more to review. On the top lid there is a thermometer. Great looking one I might add. The air induction port and the ash clean out are separate. Fantastic. To my eye are the same size which adds to symmetry and artistry of the grill. The ash clean out is actually large enough to actually clean it out. Amazing. There is a port for a barbecue guru. The barbecue guru itself is an accessory. I have one that I bought years ago and do not use much. It is nice to have though. There is a port for your meat probe. You do not have to place the wires between the body and the lid and clamp down on the wires. Thoughtfulness in design. The Komodo Kamado is just drop dead gorgeous. The sparse metal trim accent the unit into a level of artistry that is unmatched in my opinion. There are other aspects that I could discuss but by now you should get the idea. Let me speak of my background here. I was an analytical chemist for many years. I am giving you my perceptions of the Komodo Kamado. I am an owner of a RJ Kamado for about ten years. Mine is intact and functional. The RJ Kamado is basically a similar grill. Basically, the same size different shape with a tile exterior. Stop here. Comparing that grill to Komodo Kamado is like trying to compare Model T to a Lamborghini. So, I am comparing the refinements that Dennis has incorporated into his design that I wish my other one had. I cannot see why the Komodo Kamado should not excel in the cooking department. I have not cooked with it yet though. I am not an expert in Kamado grills like Dennis but this is my experience over the years. There is more to say but I am going to save it for another post. Stay tuned and by then, maybe, I will have tried out the Komodo Kamado 23 Ultimate. I just feel that I appreciate the effort Dennis has put into the Komodo Kamado and it is my small way of showing gratitude for his effort. Vernon M California
  6. I just purchased a Komodo Kamado 23 Ultimate grill from Dennis. I would like to tell you about my experience. Dennis is attentive to his customers. I wonder how many calls he gets in a day at all crazy hours because of the time differential. I called him at 1 o'clock A. M. (his time) in the morning once. He is always personable and gracious. I would do a business deal with Dennis on his word or a handshake. I cannot say that about to many people now a days. Dennis is the Michelangelo of the kamado grills. Dennis blends artistry, manufacturing, and engineering in his effort to produce the Komodo Kamado grill. Dennis dots all the i's and crosses all the t's to produce a functional work of art that truly enhances the barbecue experience in anyone's backyard. The delivery is an experience in itself. A large crate comes to your place. Their are eight bolts on the bottom of the crate unscrew them. On the top half of the crate their are about ten Phillips screws unscrew them. This is the ramp. The crate with large gaps so you can see your grill inside the crate, just slides up and off. How easy is that to do. Dennis provides you with a crow bar to remove four slats of wood that hold the wheels. After you remove them and the nails, place the ramp on the side of the bottom of the crate and roll off your Komodo Kamado. Stay tuned for my discussion of the Komodo Kamado grill. You will not want to miss that review. Vernon M California
