I also sold my 4 year old K7 with all the options ($1,400 worth with shipping) for $800, I was trying to get $900 but had no takers from both Ebay listings and Craigs list. I had one taker who took it for $800 and I have to meet him an hour away from Atlanta. The hard part is having to tell them where you got it then they do research and find out they can't get CS or replacement parts so they are on their own in the future. This scares them away, especially considering all the posts about falling tiles. I even have an extra fire box but I still could not sell them on it. I figured I'd take my losses and move on.
  2. Just a note, if you want a quick cook you can just use the gas option. I often fire up just the gas to cook hot dogs and I use it all the time when I cook pizza (Don't want the charcoal taste). The gas will get it up to 350 deg. in about 3 mins. 90% of the time I use charcoal but having the gas option makes it easy to use for anything.
  3. It would be nice to have everyone fill out their profiles at least with their city and state. Its great to know where everyone is from and how close they are to other KK users. Just my 2¢
  4. David, how did you sell it so fast?? What price did you get? (Send me a PM) I've tried to sell mine but have had no luck. I'm in no hurry since I have a few more weeks till I get my OTB but would like to sell my K shortly after I receive my KK. Congrats and be sure to post pictures when you receive your KK. Tony
  5. Come on in Dutchess county it will be covered with snow most of the time. I'm originally from Kingston, NY (actually Hurley) in Ulster County. Good luck with the torches.
  6. Why not just use the gas option????????
  7. Not sure where Curley is but I will soon have one in Atlanta(Snellville), GA. If your in the area give me a call. Anyone is welcome to come to my house once it arrives and see the new KK and if I'm cooking you can taste the great food. For that however you'll have to bring the beer. Tony
  8. We are in the process of learning all the particulars, it would help if you could send me a PM with your email and phone numbers so I could put together a database of who is interested. Also state if you have any experience in shipping overseas, have storage space available or anything else that may help. Thanks.
  9. As I stated this is great for low and slow cooks (less than 350 degrees). I have had some interest in ordering a container (and some for less). I know we could obviously get the charcoal for less than what Richard is selling it for but it would help to have some people who have storage space, shipping contacts, port experience etc. to help in this transaction. Once we know the ropes we can surely help ourselves and pass this on to other K'ers. Anyone interested in just investing is welcome to give their $.02 also. Send me a PM and we can trade info. Thanks, Tony
  10. You're lucky you did a search I think you will be much happier with a KK. Go for it and show us some pictures.
  11. I have just placed my order for a new OTB, Dennis says I'll have it in about 40 days. Can't wait to see (and use) the improvements over my Mexi K. Anyone in the Atlanta area is welcome to come by and see it too (once I receive it). I hear the pictures don't do it justice!! I'll keep everyone posted as to the delivery time and will post pictures when it arrives.
  12. I also recomend a Maverick Redi Check remote thermometer for those long overnight low and slow cooks. Has convenient settings for high and low temps, you can use one for food and one for dome and read on a single monitor. Very nice product.
  13. Anyone interested in researching how to purchase a container of Coconut Charcoal? Please go to this link and lets see if we can get some interest on this forum and order some. I have used and sold this product for Mexi-K. There are good reviews for it. Personnally I would only use it for low and slows. There is no real benefit for normal or high temp cooks as you will go thru a box in two or three cooks; however for low and slow you can get a 17 hour cook with about 1/3 - 1/2 a box and you will not have to touch it at all. Please check it out and give me your thoughts. http://www.anteromas.com/charcoalbriquettes.html Tony
  14. I used to sell Coconut Charcoal for Mexi-K it is great for low and slows but has no value for high temp or normal cooks. You will only get two to three cooks out of a box of Coconut Charcoal if you use it for normal cooks and there is really no benefit. The real benefit of the coconut charcoal is that it will last for over 24 hours (full box) at very low temps with little or no messing with it. As for the white stuff it has never caused any problems or concerns. If you wish to learn more or want to buy it direct you can go to the actual supplier which is at this link. http://www.anteromas.com/charcoalbriquettes.html If anyone is interested in ordering a container maybe we could get a group together and order one. We could sell some and use some. Anyone interested please let me know and we can start researching the particulars. Tony
  15. This cooker will make it easy Rojack, don't worry about "starting from square one" these cookers make it VERY easy to cook. Just fire it up, get the temp. regulated, put the food in and then leave it till its done. It almost takes all the fun out of it. The hard part is not opening the lid to check it every 10 mins. (a big no no). I've been cooking on one for many years and its almost impossible to ruin a meal. These cookers are very forgiving. Enjoy!!
  16. Free Use Of Escallera If the convenience posted above is not sufficient and you want to make the trip to Snellville and back you are more than welcome to use the Escalera, hell for a few beers I may help you move it too. Id like to see one of Dennis's products first hand, although I might get jealouse and have to buy one. Tony
  17. Good For You Nator, I know you will be pleased with the product. Yes I remember my visit to Luis's (I think) house. He was a nice guy, hope he is still enjoying his grill. Even though I had a terrible experience with Richard I still believe ceramic cooking is the way to go. I'm glad Dennis is doing what he is doing so there will still be "high end" ceramic grills once Mexi-K is gone. Enjoy your grill and if you see Luis tell him I say hello. PS. If you know of anyone that wants that escalera also let me know as I have no use for it anymore. Tony
  18. Right Choice I've worked closely with the Mexi-K group and own one and I can tell you, you made the right choice! If I can sell my Mexi-K, I will, and buy one of Dennis's better products. IMO Dennis has taken all the flaws of the Mexi-K and perfected them. I was in the BGE store last week buying some lump, pretty impressive store but for the price a Komodo is the way to go. BTW, whats the lead time on one of these bad boys??? Regards, your neighbor in Snellville. Tony
  19. Instant Gratification I live near Atlanta and this is where the BGE started. The problem with people today is they are in need of Instant Gratification and if they can go to the nearest pool store and buy a grill friday night so that they can have it for the weekend that is what they are going to do. I know this first hand. Of course if a Komodo was sitting side by side it would be a whole different story. BGE is a quality cooker but considering the price is nearly the same it would be a no brainer. Just my $.02. Tony
  20. Must Have!!! The competitor makes a great upper grill, it is excellent for loading up the K. Dennis do you have one of these or are you planning on making one in the future? It is one of the must haves, as far as I'm concerned, for K cooking and I would suggest it be added to the standard features. If you wish I can send pictures.
  21. Hello Dennis Dennis, I'm excited that you have finally gotten the forum up and running. I'm looking forward to frequenting this forum!! I'm also glad to see someone who has taken the exceptional qualities of ceramic grills and upped the ante by listening to customers and making changes that other grills are deficient in. I own a K7 made by the other Kamado and was actually a partner with them. Its a long story but I regret that I ever got involved with them. In speaking with Dennis he has taken what I believe to be all the flaws of the "kamado" and corrected them. Its a true testament to Dennis's ambition and "listening" that he has upped the standards of ceramic grills. Hopefully I can soon sell my K7 so that I may purchase the "better" Kamado. I truly love the easy opening capabilities, the ports for Gurus and thermometer probes (which I use frequently), the concealed wheels, the better design, the no break-in period, the perfected top damper, the upgraded burner and the number one upgrade, customer service!!!!! Should anyone have any questions about ceramic cooking and live in the Atlanta area I would be glad to share my "expertise". I live in Snellville. Congrats Dennis and I hope we may chat again soon.
