  1. Well, I had to leave the Maui experience behind and come home the the Pacific Northwest. The Homefront Commander(AKA Wifey) said I was having too much fun over there without her. Unfortunately the move back meant leaving Big Blue, Cobalt Blue Classic, (and one of Komodo's first cookers) behind in Hawaii. (He was adopted into a good home and will be lovingly fed various meatstuffs on a regular basis.) The up side I was able to convince that same Homefront Commander that I would be a surly and intolerable pain in the A** if I didn't get a new KK. (The previous statement could be possibly be interpreted as whining and complaining until I got my way.) That Being said "We welcomed "Ol' Yeller" GEN 2.18 Ultimate OTB YT23 into our home a couple of weeks ago. I must say that after purcahsing my KK back in '05 I thought I had reached the pinnacle in grilling. Then I watched Dennis make improvement after improvement. Well, now all I can say is, WOW!! I cannot believe how much it has improved. Big Blue was awesome, but Ol' Yeller is simply Amazing. Kudo's to Dennis and the whole KK crew. Cheers to All, Terry
  2. Found KK on EBAY many moons ago I also found Dennis and KK on Ebay when he was just getting started. He narrowly helped me avoid the Other company trap. He has always been friendly and responsive no matter how silly the question I might ask and the forum and its members have always been a great source of info for the newbies like myself. Life has gotten in the way of my active participation lately. But I still cruise the site to learn the latest. (and Dennis always has some new innovation going.) Congrats on the 5 years and the many more to come. Terry
  3. Our prayers are with you and your family Sorry to here the news. Our family sends our thoughts and prayers to you and yours. Hopefully you can make the best of the time you have left together.
  4. Hey Pirate Where are you at on Maui? I just moved to the Kihei area about a month ago. Got an old school blue tile classic KK on the boat now from Seattle. I am looking forward to firing it up in the land of year round grilling. I will vouch for Dennis he has been great to me. I understand your concern about shelling out the big dollars for a grill online. "You won't be disappointed!" Once you get the grills your only problem is going to be "overeating" well
  5. Re: Better yet.. Shafts on me.. Well there ya go. Porblem solved. Now you can buy the needed Tool"s". Could turn into a fairly large job though. Especially if you are starting with no tools at all. I am thinking ... A grinder, may a 5 HP dust collector, possible a lathe , in case you need to make a handle for the chisel to finish up the fine work, then of course you need a bandsaw to cut the wood blanks down to manageable size..... This fix could get expensive.
  6. Wow!! When did Dennis add the antigravity option. Better be carefull. NASA may be calling you up about some patent Infringements.
  7. OK, I guess I will have to quit my whining about the pacific northwest weather. I only had about an inch of snow on my KK earlier this week. All said and done though I still would rather be Q'ing in Florida right now.
  8. Re: Delivery Prep Sorry, I can't get past your first line. 74 degrees!!!! I am looking out the window now at a heavy snow (reference the Monday Night Football Game. Go Hawks!!) and temperatures in the upper 20's. Don't worry though. Once you get the KK that meat won't go to waste and all waits will be forgotten in a smoky haze of tasty delights.
  9. Here is My Work In progress. About 1 hour left to go. My mouth is already watering.
  10. Ok I have to weigh in here because I have already asked (Whined to) Mrs. Clause (AKA: Wifey) For the Veritas system. I have been using the Veritas guide on waterstones for a while but have reached the point where I am impatient and lazy. The tormek looks like an awesome system but the reading I have done rates the Veritas as just as good but or a lot fewer dollars. For the Tormek I would have to sell my Fifth Born. (not much value left in the first four). http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx?c=2&p=48435&cat=1,43072 I know it is off topic for a Ceramic grilling site but how about some pics of those woodworking projects from the shops. I am always looking to steal an idea...I mean appreciate the fine craftmanship that went into the generation of the best smoking scraps around.
  11. Hey Dennis, I may be a little late in the design game on this. But,... how about adding a little Stainless steel towel bar onto the end to hang the tools of the trade on. This will keep them out of the way and open up more surface area for prep and Fixins'. Just my two bits. Terry
  12. Please make it happen!!!!! OK Dennis. I can guarantee at least one customer for ya. I am stuck up here in the Northwest home of the over sized gas grill and Charcoal briquettes. Even Wallyworld does not carry lump up here. So Since I am going to have to mail order anyway. I would much rather send my business your way. The Tamarind sounds very interesting.
  13. Re: Hey now ! Tender, Juicy and delicious. OK I'm sold. Thanx for the rough cook time also. I was thinking about using the meat hanger for the bird. It came with the grill 2 years ago and I still have not used it. Although the fact you said it fell apart worries me a bit. Should I tie it up?
  14. max. weight of a turkey in a KK -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi I'm planning to prepare a turkey in September in the KK (the Classic version). Has anyone an idea what the aprox. size is, that fits into the KK? I have to feed 30 people! Thank you in advance for your answers! Tobias Hey Tobias, I did not see a follow up to your Turkey cook in September. Did you give it a try. I am thinking about doing a Turkey on the KK for THanksgiving Day Dinner and was curious about your success and how you set it up to cook? Anyone else out there willing ready to offer up some advice and Pics> Terry
  15. You are absolutely right, Curly. A man has to draw a line somewhere. Usually way off in the corner, in back of the shed, right behind the spider infested wood pile where your sweetie will never find out. Ahh!! silent rebellion. And of course you know that "chat" would end up with you saying "Yes Dear." and then slinking back to the wood pile to smile at your line.
