  1. e it is in the BBQ garden. Also looking at the box it appears they now include the small lower stand. That allows air under the unit so you don't burn/scorch whatever it's sitting on. That is a nice improvement from the totally flat grate that is in our unit. 👍
  2. One time I put a couple too many pork butts in the KK............so that the dome thermometer was stuck in the meat when I closed the lid. Just set the top & bottom vent where I always put them for low & slow. and the temp was within 10* of where I wanted it (checked after I took the meat out). @chuck...with your experience with other cookers.......this is a no brainer!!!!!
  3. Hey Chuck............one cook and you will have it figured out and be hooked. The most important element in my book is not to over shoot your cooking temp because the cookers retain heat so well. Just air flow adjustments. Pull the trigger....you will not regret it.
  4. @ckreef Both my units came with a cover. Hopefully yours will also. (I didn't know they came with one). I leave the Yukon outside. The cover is nice and sturdy. All I did was to cut a piece of round plywood to put on top of the cooker, so the water would not pool down inside and stuck a piece of foam on top to tent the cover. Works great. The new covers I have seen have a handle on top......mine do not and are a pain to get off (fit tight - will not blow off). I really believe you and Mrs. SKReef will like the fire pit. Everyone who has sat by ours...... loved it. Enjoy!!!!! PS - will need some kindling to get the big logs going and the afterburner effect kicks in when the coals start to form.
  5. Very welcome. We bought the Bonfire first and then the Yukon. I (and many other reviewers) was/were really disappointed in the shape of the Yukon fire grate. The manufacturer found that in the first production units the fire grate would warp & sag, so they had to "dome" the fire grate to prevent that from happening. If a person was interested in the larger unit, they might want to check and see if they fixed the problem. A simple support bar/arm would solve the problem in my way of thinking. If the fire grate was flat like the Bonfire....it would be just as nice as the Bonfire. There is no ash drawer on these units. The powder ash falls down thru the round holes in the fire grate into the lower chamber. The only way to remove it is to turn the unit upside down and shake it out back thru the round holes. Not hard at all with the Bonfire by yourself but Yukon is so big around that one person has trouble getting arms around it to support shaking it out. They do dent easily. Once you get a hot fire going, these units are great. The secondary burn feature on the gasses is super cool. It burns the wood down to a fine powder like a wood stove. Be sure to get the spacer ring for under the fire pit if you are on grass or a combustible surface. With the spacer ring, we are able to have a fire on the grass without scorching it. We did not get the fire/spark screens they recently came out with. I did receive a damaged unit on the Yukon order.........They send a return shipping tag and sent a new one once UPS scanned the tag at pick-up. Great customer service.
  6. @ckreef We have the Bonfire and the Yukon fire pits. You are really going to enjoy the Bonfire unit. It is perfect for 2 to 4 people. We bought the larger Yukon for the family cottage where we have 6 to 8 people around the fire. Have to say that the design and weight of the Bonfire is more user friendly than the Yukon. The size of the Yukon requires the fire grate to curve/arch up in the center of the fire pit (the Bonfire grate is flat) which restricts where you can place the larger logs. Plus the size and weight of the Yukon makes it difficult for one person to turn it upside down to empty the ashes without denting the unit. Not a problem with the Bonfire. The Yukon may be larger but the design of the internal fire grate leaves a lot to be desired and actually reduces the effectiveness of the cool smokeless feature. In my not so humble opinion.........Between the two units I have ........................The Bonfire is the way to go!!!!! PS - Have not seen the Ranger fire pit.
  7. I'm with you..........one can NEVER have too many cookers/grills!!!! Just expand the patio PS - I love my Blackstone(s). Have 1 at the boat, 1 at the cottage and 1 at the house (refer to statement above )
  8. @Alphonse............I do both. My rule of thumb is thicker cuts that I cook low & slow and/or SV get the reverse sear. Thinner cuts get the forward sear then go to the side to finish. I like both and will switch around for fun. It also depends on the cooker. I know ckreef does the forward sear on his Nuke Delta Argentinian style grill (as I do on my Gabby Grill - Santa Maria style) because it is easier to control the internal temp of the meat and the sear on crust. My suggestion......try both and see what you and the family like best. Follow your motto above
  9. Now @Aussie Ora has a partner in crime....sending thoughts of sandy beaches and warm winds....................... while we are freezing our toes off. @Basher That dastardly Aussie Ora also sends pictures of sky blue waters and sandy beaches along with the descriptions of summer fun. Have a great time!!!!!
  10. @ckreef Charles...I was studying the cooker and there is a side-to-side bar that is on the internal frame in front of the adjustable cooking grate. It is shown in some of the photos and appears to be missing in others. Looks like there are little mounting pegs sticking out of the frame that the side-to-side bar attaches to or rests on. What the heck does it do?? (a rest point for the cover?) Thanks!
  11. Those are some serious shipping stands!!! Nice work @Tucker!!!!!!!
  12. Thanks Mac.....................................I now own a piece of that artwork (plus the OXO sling)..........................$$$ .....Can't take it with you
  13. @MacKenzie The reason asked about the trivet is that I bought a friend a name brand PC for a gift and it did not have a trivet or a "pot". I went out and bought them a steamer basket like Mac posted a picture of. @mguerra I will be ordering one of the silicone baskets for sure and will check out the Fat Daddios pots. Thanks for posting!!! Dang it Mac...........those Kuhn Rikon PC'ers look fantastic...............................thinking I should probably add one to my arsenal
  14. Does your's have a trivet for the bottom?
  15. @mguerra @Syzygies My mother used a range-top, old style pressure cooker for years. It was one of the first cooking devices I purchased when I moved out (actually when my dad threw me out after college - "get a job son"). I did try one of the early models of the electric PC's and didn't like it compared to my stove top PC. Guessing I need to rethink that decision and try a new-fangled electronic model. Last summer, I discovered my Mom's original PC at the family cottage. After careful inspection of the gaskets & safety valves (I'm sure one is a lead plug), I gave it a spin. Worked great but it is time to be put on the shelf. I have cooked on my stove top PC's twice a month for over 40 years and will never be without one. Going to try a new electronic one and the sweet potatoes! Thanks for posting!!
  16. @tony b My sister will be calling you soon. She was out of town until yesterday. FYI PS - Not sure if the Salt Potatoes will still be good ....but the rest will be fine
  17. Darn It All Tony......I drove thru Chicago on Friday......should have joined you at the tasting . I believe my nephew's wedding is May 23, 2020.
  18. My sister lives in the same town as our @tony b and I tried to catch up with him last year during a visit but he was off to a distant beer festival and I missed him. On Sunday evening before Thanksgiving, I found out a family friend had passed away and decided to drive to Iowa for the funeral. Didn't get a chance to check with Tony in real time, so I sent a e-mail and took a chance he would be there. So before I took off on Monday morning, I stopped at the grocery store and bought a bunch of Syracuse based BBQ products. The plan was to use them to bribe Tony into sharing some of his award winning home brew . As I was driving to Iowa, Tony sent me a text message with the bad news.........he was flying to Chicago for the Holidays. Rats!!!! Foiled again.........No home brew!!!!! Hoping for future "beer credits"..........I left the BBQ care package with my sister to take to Tony this week. My nephew is getting married this coming summer in Tony's town....................maybe the third time will be a charm
  19. It was interesting and I read about the problem with the camels in your country. It is a shame they can't use the camel meat to feed the poor. When they cull the dear population in our town, they donate the meat to the food bank. Understand the area they are in is huge and there would be a logistical problem transporting the meat. Would like to see you cook up some camel ribs Aussie
  20. I think Dennis tricked me.......................but I'm glad he did!!!! When I discovered that Dennis was thinking about discontinuing the 16" KK Table Top model.....I quick ordered one. Even though I had the 19" KK TT, I found myself using my little KJ Jr. for most of my 2 person cooks. The size worked really well for me. I received the 16" KK one year ago today and I love cooking on that little grill/smoker!!!!!! Cannot imagine being without it in my cooking arsenal. Like @ckreef the combo of the 16" and 19" works great for my cooking requirements at the house in Syracuse. Don't get me wrong......I'm still saving for the 42" KK at the family cottage in Michigan but there will be another 16" KK sitting right next to it!!! I'm happy to see that Dennis is still offering the 16" as part of the KK line up. It is one, sweet little smoker
  21. My absolute favorite Jim Breuer skit...............................
  22. I joined the Primo forum when I bought my first kamado. Heck...that is where I met @MacKenzie and learned about KK's. Recently I have not been very active on the Primo forum but would check in every once in a while to see what was happening...................... Just tried to log in and it looks like it was taken down. Guessing because of the buyout??????? How things change and quickly. The forum moved to a less friendly platform a few years ago and was going down hill quickly in terms of participation. One talented member really kept it going single handed. Sad for Sean!!!! Mac..........see if you have any luck. Long live the KK Forum!!!!!
