  1. A stainless plate and some SS Bolts, a corresponding tap, and a very large drill bit or two are in my future.
  2. I would suggest a nice single malt, an easy chair and a slow cook on the KK
  3. How about setting the charcoal basket on the middle grill/grate and cook on the big grill?? That would get the fire close to the food.
  4. He just is not wearing his dayglo turbine and dagger!
  5. AMEN! to that!! The only good thing I got out of it was an understanding of how much physical and mental abuse a person can take and still keep on going! I am glad that I do not have nightmares about it.
  6. I do have a chipper that would handle those limbs, maybe that would be the easiest thing to use. Yes, refilling the tube was the reason I bought the CS primarily because of the refill when the cooker is going with food in it. Pulling the Ci with a hot firebox and food on the grill sounded a bit of a hassle. For me the fluid dynamics for the sphere was trying to hit a 24 inch diameter target at 400 meters with a rifled breech loading cannon. We had bore scopes and cameras for same and we had chronographs to measure bullet speed but understanding why we were fighting accuracy problems is where that photo of the sphere came in so handy. Seeing such a flow inside the KK would be like magic!
  7. Jeff, very cool stuff! Nice to know there are other tech geeks out there that like cooking I was engaged in the Aerospace field in the early 1960's with the first project being to wire the power supplies for the cameras that went into the Tiros "Weather" satellite (I was a teenager with connections). Ha!, we could photograph a golf ball on a green from space, and that was a very long time ago. Now we could tell you the make of the ball and if it had been topped... I was working on the Apollo Saturn moon rocket program on the guidance systems when I got drafted and guess what the Gov't said? "Son, you failed the electronics test and passed the machine gun test, your in the Army now". What a waste of manpower and when I got back from my all expenses paid vacation to Indochina I never worked in aerospace again. At the time it was not the policy to hire disabled Vets.
  8. I just knew there would be some very informed soul that knew about this stuff! Yep, very expensive is an understatement. The stuff that NASA and the Aerospace program in general uses is truly amazing and is one of the things that drew me to that field initially, you know, "boy and their toys", but the knowledge derived is still helping us today in the civilian world. I worked on parts of some pretty interesting project, very small parts but enough to get my brain stimulated. I worked for a division of Coleman Engineering on the camera systems but I got to go up and poke at the dummies they used for the tests. Wow, really scary, like poking a corpse! Here is another photo, courtesy of the French Researchers, that I needed when one of my previous hobbies got the best of me. I really wanted to know why a round ball was not accurate in flight, even if it was a 40mm round ball.
  9. Let me see, I have a radial saw, a chop saw, a table saw, a bandsaw, a Sawsall, a jigsaw, and a wide variety of hand saws (the Japanese pulls saws are my favorite) so cutting to length is no problem. Then I have a wide variety of hatchets, axes, splitting mauls and splitting wedges and if I needed to get fancy I could turn them down to size in one of 2 lathes I have for the job. I do believe I am armed for the job, but I bet there is a particular size that works best. "No bigger than 1.5 inches", is that in both dimensions? If I use the Gas Port then what about smoke "Pooling" in the bottom? Does my wild thought about starting a very small fire ABOVE everything on the top grill make any sense?
  10. OK, here another wild thought. Put the CS into the gas port after making an adapter plate and then put your cheeses or whatever you want to truly Cold Smoke on the bottom grill and then put a small hibachi affair on the very top grill so the heat left the KK and created the draft. What do you think??
  11. So Dennis, is the front of the KK better than the side or back to drill the new port for the CS?
  12. Dennis, what would you suggest with the Pebble Tiles???
  13. TonyB, I love Dali's work! Can you imagine having him as a neighbor??!!! I will work on a support system if needed once it arrives. Today I cut some Japanese Plumb limbs and some Japanese Pear limbs so I will have some fruitwood, plus the store bought stuff. Now to chop and split for the Cold Smoker.
  14. Well, I just ordered one and we will see what it takes to make it stable without drilling and tapping the ceramic walls of the KK. If I can't figure out something that is solid ad works flawlessly then I can send smoke signals to the navy across the bay
  15. Boring into the jacket and tiles of the KK seem a bit dodgy. What about a Pebble Tile KK like mine? A small diamond saw to cut the tiles into a rectangular hole would be necessary. I am with MGUERRA use a smaller fire and lower the grill to get the meats closer to the smoker. And for cheese smoking putting it down there would work too.
  16. You are starting the New Year off right!
  17. After thinking about it overnight I came up with yet another question about the CS. Will it fit in place WITH THE WING TABLE IN PLACE?? If it does, and would not run the risk of setting that wing table on fire, then the wing table supports might be able to be fastened to the tabs on the CS???
  18. John, good job on the move! AND you are clearly on your way to some great cooking experiences
  19. My BB32 has no bolts AND the port is directly above the right front foot so making a bracket that sits on the deck would be more difficult. It would have to be a horseshoe affair and be heavier than the loaded smoker at the base.
  20. Thanks Jeff, I thought that would be the answer. With that Cold Smoker there are some flanges on the KK side of it; what are they for?? I don't see corresponding mounting tabs on the KK.
  21. Here is another smoking question, does it take something like the Cold Smoker to smoke cheeses? Will a Cast Iron pot suffice?
