First cook or two

Recommended Posts

Well my Dad (U2PLT) was looking for an excuse to buy the latest and greatest KK so offered to take his off his hands. He graciously gave it to me and we hauled it home in my 24 foot enclosed car hauler. Having a great ramp made easy work of loading and unloading.

My wife loves a good steak so Saturday night I fired the KK up to 500 degrees and placed the grate on the bottom. Seared both sides for 60 seconds and then moved the steak up to the top grate and cooked till it hit 145 degrees.

She said it was as good as any she has ever had. We've had steaks at the best restaurants in Dallas, Scottsdale and Las Vegas. All at a very hefty price.

With the help of my Dad, this forum and the KK, I finally grilled a steak to perfection. I've never been any good at grilling and now I have one more hobby.

I ground up four types of pepper and sea salt and gave the steak a light rub. No steak sauce was needed.

This afternoon I tried my first real low and slow. I smoked a rack of baby backs using a dry memphis rub I made following Big Bob Gibson's book. I altered slightly with my brother's (tkline01) advice. I covered the ribs in foil and bathed them in apple juice after the first two hours. After two hours in the apple juice I removed them from the foil and continued for another hour. Everyone loved the ribs, but I didn't get a picture before they were almost gone.
