Pipe Size Info & Orifice Chart (for NG conversion)

Recommended Posts

Well, I wanted to have more time to write an appropriate post for the subject, but that has not come to fruition yet (maybe soon). But short story is as follows: I cannot find anything on the Internet that says there is a difference in standard size pipe verses metric - there are equivalencies for the common sizes as they are internationally standardized. I will post some web links below, but it looks like we should have no safety issues using our fittings with these burners. And from Tony's investigating, he has determined that 1/8 pipe seems to be the appropriate replacement size on the existing gas valve. I am hoping to talk someone into giving me a pretty close measurement on the larger thread where it goes into the burner??

I also thought I would re-post this nice gas orifice chart again for those who might need it for natural gas conversion:

Re: BTU Rating

I need to convert the burner for my OTB to natural gas. So I would be interested in the BTU rating of the burner so I can make the appropriate adjustments in hold size. Does one only need to change the entry orifice size or actually drill out the burner holes?

Any help would be appreciated.

Chuck

It is just the jet orifice (entry as say) that needs drilling. There are a couple of threads here of folks whom did just that. I will locate one and post it here when I find it. But from what I recall, Dennis said the burner is about 20K. Just remember, you can always drill out larger if it does not work, but it is a lot harder to fix if you drill it out too much.

Re: Burner NG Conversion

Jason,

Thanks for the info, it was most helpful. I am sure I can get it done now. I appreciate your help.

Chuck

No problem. Let us know if you need anything else.

Just for info, we would love seeing some more pics. If I remember correct you had a gorgeous covered outdoor cooking setup. Gives me something to dream for anyway.

Your burner came with two jets.. the one installed is for the LPG and the one included for natural gas. Just swap them out. The jets are small brass plugs drilled out. I can have the factory look up the hole size if you have lost them.

If you unscrew the brass fitting from the cast iron burner you will expose the small jet. Only that needs to be changed.

Re: Pipe Size Info & Orifice Chart (for NG conversion)

Great service there. Including both jets. No need for the customer to have to rig a solution. I daresay there are a LOT of customers who have no idea what a jet is, how to modify one, or rig one from scratch.

Nor should they be expected to.

Good job Dennis.
