FYI Wireless meat probes

Recommended Posts

This was posted on another forum so I thought I would share. Its a kick start promo.

It's a wireless meat thermometer that reads internal and external temp from one probe.

It has kind of peaked my interest the meat block with four probes.

Any thoughts. ..

Couldn't resist... Had to impulse buy...

I wonder if the bluetooth signal will be able to penetrate the refectory cement of a KK though?

I went for the early bird Meater Block with the 4 probes and wifi enabled charging station 149 USD plus 20 bucks to ship to my office in Singapore.

Even if it doesn't work with the KK I'll use it in sous vide bags.

I wondered the same thing so I did a quick test.

Phone playing music that is Bluetooth to a Bose speaker. Put the phone in the KK and closed the lid. Never skipped a beat.

With that test a success I too pulled the trigger on the 4 probe meter block version. Figured when I go inside the block will WiFi to my router and will get it to my phone.

I was thinking of getting a cyberq wifi this week with the fan and probes.  But this kind of throws a wrench in the plans doesn't it....

Perhaps just the fan and computer and not the wireless probes

If you dont need wifi take a look at this company http://www.auberins.com/ at the smoker controllers. All you need is the PID, power cord and pit probe (their fan wont fit) and then the BBQ Guru Pit Viper fan. I dont think that company makes a fitting to fit the KK'S port you can call and see. I can probably get you the Pit Viper for $80 tax in.

Dickson's BBQ. I'm not sure how much I can get the cyberq for. The regular price with fan is like $500 plus tax.

I just looked at that site I gave you and they have the kit without the fan for like $95 USD add $80 for the fan and your done. Heres the link http://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=14_27&products_id=399

If I was you I would hold off on a controller until you get a chance to use the KK's. I've slept through the night with my Akorn going. My KK is so much more stable I just never see the need.

I've left the house for hours with the KK going (on a few different occasions) and never worried about it. Biggest temp difference so far has been a 25* rise and it wasn't really stable when I left.

Fingers crossed that they reach their target funding. Only 28 days left to raised the last 25% of their goal.

They were at $70,000 last night. This morning just a few hours later they are at $90,000. Yea they'll get to their goal probably by tomorrow at the latest. By the end they will probably hit some of their advanced goals.

Fingers crossed the probes last more than a couple of cooks.

Adder tooth on the kg forum is a very high paid engineer for the government. He suggested that the batteries will fail immediatelyin high heat.

With that said I really think that this is a lost backing.

For those that paid and wish to cancel you can do so by going to you're PayPal pre authorized payment section to cancel payment.

I think that Kickstarter is great for start up companies but if the company spend the cash indevelopment and can't make it work you are out cash.

Sure it is a small amount but at 25% discount why not wait until you know it's good to go.

I know adder well and if he says it's a no go I honestly think that you should take his advice to cancel.

Money still is money and 150 gone is still a lot of beer and a brisket.

I understand what you are saying bosco and I read all the posts on Guru. Not saying I don't believe Addertooth but new innovations are springing up daily. The two people doing this have successfully kickstarted numerous other electronic devices so hopefully they have a grip on the manufacturing end and experience actually getting something to market.

I'm still going to let it ride and see what happens.

That’s an interesting product. In their FAQ section, they address the issue of how they expect the Meater to hold up to high temperatures.

For me, the two main downsides would be that the probe is almost 1/4†thick, which is a bigger hole than I would want in the food I’m making, and how much flexibility you have in placing the probe. All the action shots show the probe buried in the meat up to the black end part which is the ambient temperature sensor, and they mention that the main part of the probe is protected by the meat. The probe looks long enough that I don’t think I could bury it in an average sized chicken.

It's not perfect by any means and I'm certainly not encouraging anyone to buy them: after all, kickstarter is ALWAYS a gamble. Could end up with nothing and no refund - it certainly isn't Amazon!!

I buy products on Kickstarter to help young companies innovating in areas that interest me - the products are a bonus.

I'd love to invent things one day and I love being able to see the process and ups and downs, successes and failures.
