  1. yeah - for 6 years now. A great gateway into it, but it was really about two months ago when the sheer frustrations of some of the design flaws with the Egg began to get me back thinking of the KK again. That gasket. The draft door not being flush with the bottom of the unit - so ash emptying a pain. The second-class fittings starting to show their age. attaching the BBQ Guru to the draft door. Above all, the sheer difficulty of getting clean smoke at anything under 275 - because of the gaps between the the fire box and the body, the fire wasn't nearly as efficient, so dirty smoke persisted. And what's the solution to all of these issues, and more? the KK. Once the tipping point was reached, no going back. Don't get me wrong. I fully understand why the BGE is a great option for many people. But it isn't the KK. And it's the little things that will make all the difference to me. My BGE already has a home identified - a friend of mine who wants to dip his toes into the game is going to take it (he's only got a gasser right now...) so I'm excited to see what he does with it.

  2. So, with apologies for the terrible title of the thread, and thanks to all for their kind advice on which accessories to buy - I am so very happy to announce that my new KK is now en route from Indonesia to sunny London* Some photos below. The SS side tables in particular look stellar. * for those of you unacquainted with London it is rarely, if ever, sunny.

  3. It felt so good to fire up the KK this evening. While the steak was in the 132F sous vide bath started the cauliflower. Basted with olive oil, minced garlic, salt and pepper. Coated the slices of cauliflower. On the grill at 350F for 30 mins, then flipped and cooked until tender. Mushrooms ready to add to the KK. Soaked golden raisins in white wine and toasted the pistachios. Topped the cauliflower with raisins and pistachios, sprinkled on some cheese and melted it under the broiler.Plated. Interior of steak.

  4. Stunning view and that Bronze BB will just make it that much better! Second a couple of others' thoughts - load up on both CocoChar and Coffee charcoal, as pointed out (basically free shipping) - you will love this stuff. If you have any inkling on doing pizza or bread in the KK, get the stone now. It's easier to ship inside the grill than as a stand-alone order later (they can get broken in shipment, despite Dennis' best efforts to pack them solidly.) Many of us here are big fans of Fruita Wood for our smoking woods - http://www.fruitawoodchunks.com/ If you have any questions about different charcoals, check out the Naked Whiz's database - http://www.fruitawoodchunks.com/ btw - love the avatar pic of the albino banjo player in Deliverance.

  8. Ah that will do it. Right. I think we had some left over subscriptions from the old version that seems to have caught some users out. That is why they are most likely getting content subscriptions like you have. Im pretty sure it was from the older version of the board, but you can always check your subscriptions from your profile to see what threads and forums you have subscribed to. Im glad you have been able to find a solution to you issue mate. I appreciate you updating us. Cheers.

  10. Thanks, much appreciated. We opted for one of the teak tables. I asked Dennis if they might install wheels on it, as I'm inclined to keep it against a wall and roll it out against the grill when we need it. The grill will be freestanding and very conspicuous of course. I didn't order any additional supplies, I figured I'd wait to see what sort of cooking I want to tackle first. I've not smoked anything in years (well, I had a Rocky Patel just an hour ago, celebrating my acquisition, but that doesn't count), so I found a good deal on a smoking / grilling class at a BBQ school nearby. I've a large party to throw in July, so I've a bit of time to nail down a few recipes I think. I also anticipate needing more gym time as I reap the benefits of this new addition to my patio. I don't know anything about specialized coals or recommending smoking woods, so I've some research to do. I appreciate your advice, I will keep those in mind and search through the forum to learn more. Now it just won't get here fast enough! Cheers (Picture of the grill's new home is attached)
