  1. I recently watched Steve's 7 minute vid on You Tube as he presented how to smoke a rack of St Louis ribs on a rotisserie. He definitely was up to par with his presentation on the gas grill he was using however, I thought the KK was as good, or a better option. Steve doesn't supply to much in the way of temps, time and amounts for rubs and sauces but, that's ok, we learn to endure. I cooked the single rack shown between 3 1/2 and 4 hours @ 250 at the onset and ended around 290 which I thought was in line. I also had some recently delivered cherry wood that I split and kiln dried it in the KK as this cook was in progress. And I used apple wood to flavor this rack, YUM

  2. My first CNC was really small and the gantry was made out of hard plastic. I found I really needed the rigidity to do these inlays. The frustration is what caused me to go big and sturdy. The CNC is a blast to use and production power is empowering. I built quite a few cabinets for my house about a year ago and you could literally sit down at a computer with the basic dimensions of what you wanted to build and be cutting all the parts 10 minutes later. This was one of my favorite projects last year. The sculptured part was done on the CNC. It is 2 sided and took about 22 hours of solid carving. Everything is solid mahogany.

  4. Geeeeeezz, I wish you guys wouldn't do that...got me thinking and looking at videos. Those tools are nice but come at a high price tag for the quality equipment. Nice looking sign Bruce. Was the wood an indigenous pine?

  5. I have gained double benefit from your post @Tyrus. First there was the pleasure of seeing your beautifully cooked ribs. Second, I now know what St Louis ribs are. Will see if my farmer/butcher can do me that cut in future.

  6. Ribs looking good. I like your kiln drying wood. They talk about doing that in Wood Fired Ovens. After you're done using the oven you remove all the coals then load it full of wood and shut it down. You then use that wood for your next burn. I probably should try that. If I get my oven fully heat soaked and cooled down a little it'll still be around 120* 24 hours later and that's with 40* nighttime temps.

  7. CNC machines are so cool just design what you want and use router bits to cut it out. The machine I had was a 5 axis machine. It did the flat work but you could also do turnings with it. Was fun while it lasted.

  8. Tyrus it was popular with an oil stain. It was a trial Run but after doing it I just decided to stain it.

  20. I thought Pequod should drive because he can bring his espresso machine and since he is the only one who knows how to operate it he'd be a good DD. Maybe you could just drink verrrrry slowly in the meantime.:)

  21. It's been a long winter so between the weather and a small injury woodworking, I haven't been able to finish up the trim on the kitchen. The first thing I need to finish is the backsplash so the electrician can finish up and I will have power everywhere. Here is the first tease: Things don't look quite right but I'm sure it will work out. This is the area that goes behind the bar. I'm putting a few of my favorites on the backsplash including this one. I still have to fill in the umbrella color and fill that cavity. He looks to be in some pain but not for long:
