Interesting you say that and I totally agree especially around the sides. A year or so ago Dennis asked people to chime in on this exact situation. The majority thought the design should remain as is. I thought it should change to smaller gaps along the sides as it couldn't hurt.

I do think Dennis made some fire baskets with smaller gaps around the side. To get it you had to buy an extra fire basket.

If he would make one I’d pay extra to get it. I was going to by one with a spitter anyway. I don’t understand why people would do be against it.

  2. I’m getting a basket splitter and I’m a little confused what comes with it. I know it comes with the center plate and the top cover but it looks like there is a piece that goes in the bottom. The picture only shows 2 parts but together it looks like there are more pieces.

If you live in a very cold location and your grill is frozen, the gas burner is a fast easy efficient way to thaw out and pre-heat/heat-soak the hot face..

The volume of burning charcoal for a 235º low and slow cook would take too long.. light up extra charcoal and once heated you race by to 300º..  You can also use a old school sheet metal charcoal starter.. fill and light it, set on drip pan let rage until grill is heated, then pour a bit of what's left onto your charcoal in the basket and smoke away..

That’s what I was thinking for the gas burner. To preheat for high heat cooks like pizza. For low and slow I’ve been lighting the KK the night before and setting the bottom vent to the medium circle and a 1/4 turn on the top and it settles in at 225. Even then I’m able the get 24 hrs worth of cook time and have about a 1/3 left in the basket.

  4. Lol. Thanks again for the input. Was looking for something to get on my birthday. Guess I’ll get the basket splitter and another basket. Only attachments I have left are the rotisserie ( not sure which one of those to get ) and the charcoal splitter.

  5. Thanks for the input.  The only thing I would likely use it for Would be to preheat the grill for high heat cooks. When I cook pizza - for example I use quite a bit of charcoal preheating the grill. Not to mention the time it takes (at least an hour). How about the basket splitter. Does that save on charcoal?

  6. I was considering getting the gas burner attachment for my 23 KK. I see posts about the dual fuel unit but not much about the gas burner. Can anyone tell me if it’s worth having? Is it useful for preheating the KK? Does it use a lot of fuel? Are there any other uses for it? I’d appreciate any input I can get.

  7. I have a 23 in. I tried to stack them with the ham on top so I could add the ham about mid way through but the top grate isn’t deep enough to handle the ham under it. I made a setup with the turkey on the lower grate and the upper grate positioned on the handles of the lower grate to prop it up a bit with a couple of bricks to have a third point of contact but I was afraid of the turkey being that close to the fire. That was on a roasting pan and the stone underneath.
