  1. Well, I had to leave the Maui experience behind and come home the the Pacific Northwest. The Homefront Commander(AKA Wifey) said I was having too much fun over there without her.:cry:

Unfortunately the move back meant leaving Big Blue, Cobalt Blue Classic, (and one of Komodo's first cookers) behind in Hawaii. (He was adopted into a good home and will be lovingly fed various meatstuffs on a regular basis.)

The up side I was able to convince that same Homefront Commander that I would be a surly and intolerable pain in the A** if I didn't get a new KK. (The previous statement could be possibly be interpreted as whining and complaining until I got my way.)

    :oops::oops::oops:

That Being said "We welcomed "Ol' Yeller" GEN 2.18 Ultimate OTB YT23 into our home a couple of weeks ago.

I must say that after purcahsing my KK back in '05 I thought I had reached the pinnacle in grilling. Then I watched Dennis make improvement after improvement. Well, now all I can say is, WOW!! I cannot believe how much it has improved. Big Blue was awesome, but Ol' Yeller is simply Amazing.

Kudo's to Dennis and the whole KK crew.

    Cheers to All,

    Terry

  2. Found KK on EBAY many moons ago

I also found Dennis and KK on Ebay when he was just getting started. He narrowly helped me avoid the Other company trap. He has always been friendly and responsive no matter how silly the question I might ask and the forum and its members have always been a great source of info for the newbies like myself. Life has gotten in the way of my active participation lately. But I still cruise the site to learn the latest. (and Dennis always has some new innovation going.)

Congrats on the 5 years and the many more to come.

    Terry

  3. I'm new to the forum' date=' congrats on 52. I'm also 52 but member 217. I can't wait till i can send a message when I'm the same age as my member number. I eat well and take care of myself so i don't see a problem. Still waiting for my kk's, there on the water i have two black on black Gen II's [The Twins '] coming. I was going to get BGE's then i saw the Naked Whiz review and never looked back. i've being reading the forum for some time now and feel i know most of you and you sound like a lot of fun and people i can trust.

Emailing Dennis he sounds like someone i could call a friend mosty from what the members say. i have never spent this much money on the internet. Once they land in Long Beach i still have to get them on a boat to Maui and Dennis is ready to help with that to. I will do my best to get pictures of the grills in my driveway and lanai because from what i can tell without pictures it didn't happen

Hey Pirate Where are you at on Maui? I just moved to the Kihei area about a month ago. Got an old school blue tile classic KK on the boat now from Seattle. I am looking forward to firing it up in the land of year round grilling.

I will vouch for Dennis he has been great to me. I understand your concern about shelling out the big dollars for a grill online. "You won't be disappointed!" Once you get the grills your only problem is going to be "overeating" well

  4. Re: Better yet.. Shafts on me..

I just received your Email that I have not billed you for the EZQ kit yet..

    Don't you hate that..

Always irritates me off when companies ship stuff and don't even have the courtesy to send me a bill..

As I said, I'm sorry for the frustration and the need to go out and get them cut.

    This set's on me..

    No Charge..

    :lol::lol:

Well there ya go. Porblem solved. Now you can buy the needed Tool"s".

Could turn into a fairly large job though. Especially if you are starting with no tools at all. I am thinking ... A grinder, may a 5 HP dust collector, possible a lathe , in case you need to make a handle for the chisel to finish up the fine work, then of course you need a bandsaw to cut the wood blanks down to manageable size..... This fix could get expensive.

  5. Gonna be hard to cook all sideways. Won't the drippings run all over the floor this way??

Wow!! When did Dennis add the antigravity option.

Better be carefull. NASA may be calling you up about some patent Infringements.:shock::shock:

  6. Re: Delivery Prep

O.K. so perfect conditions for this afternoon's scheduled delivery...74 degress and not a cloud in the forecast.

Sorry, I can't get past your first line. 74 degrees!!!! I am looking out the window now at a heavy snow (reference the Monday Night Football Game. Go Hawks!!) and temperatures in the upper 20's. :(:(

Don't worry though. Once you get the KK that meat won't go to waste and all waits will be forgotten in a smoky haze of tasty delights. :D

  7. Ok I have to weigh in here because I have already asked (Whined to) Mrs. Clause (AKA: Wifey) For the Veritas system. I have been using the Veritas guide on waterstones for a while but have reached the point where I am impatient and lazy. The tormek looks like an awesome system but the reading I have done rates the Veritas as just as good but or a lot fewer dollars. For the Tormek I would have to sell my Fifth Born. (not much value left in the first four).

I know it is off topic for a Ceramic grilling site but how about some pics of those woodworking projects from the shops. I am always looking to steal an idea...I mean appreciate the fine craftmanship that went into the generation of the best smoking scraps around.

  8. Hey Dennis,

I may be a little late in the design game on this. But,... how about adding a little Stainless steel towel bar onto the end to hang the tools of the trade on. This will keep them out of the way and open up more surface area for prep and Fixins'.

    Just my two bits.

    Terry

  9. Please make it happen!!!!!

OK Dennis. I can guarantee at least one customer for ya. I am stuck up here in the Northwest home of the over sized gas grill and Charcoal briquettes. Even Wallyworld does not carry lump up here. So Since I am going to have to mail order anyway. I would much rather send my business your way.

    The Tamarind sounds very interesting.

  10. Re: Hey now !

    :x

I couldn't help it - the durn thing fell apart while I was getting it off the grill... just so tender, juicy, and delicious.

Tender, Juicy and delicious. OK I'm sold. Thanx for the rough cook time also.

I was thinking about using the meat hanger for the bird. It came with the grill 2 years ago and I still have not used it. Although the fact you said it fell apart worries me a bit. Should I tie it up?

  11. max. weight of a turkey in a KK

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Hi

I'm planning to prepare a turkey in September in the KK (the Classic version). Has anyone an idea what the aprox. size is, that fits into the KK? I have to feed 30 people!

Thank you in advance for your answers!

    Tobias

    Hey Tobias,

I did not see a follow up to your Turkey cook in September. Did you give it a try.

I am thinking about doing a Turkey on the KK for THanksgiving Day Dinner and was curious about your success and how you set it up to cook?

Anyone else out there willing ready to offer up some advice and Pics>

    Terry

  12. I'll say this much, I'd never marry a girl that thinks bbq stinks, I may go out with here...but a man has got to draw the line somewheres.

    We'd have a chat :smt006

You are absolutely right, Curly. A man has to draw a line somewhere. Usually way off in the corner, in back of the shed, right behind the spider infested wood pile where your sweetie will never find out. Ahh!! silent rebellion.

And of course you know that "chat" would end up with you saying

"Yes Dear." and then slinking back to the wood pile to smile at your line.

    :):):)

  13. Ok, I don't know how refined the technology is on these. But just imagine if you could read the temp based off the color of your grill. No need for fancy remote electronics. Just glance out the window and if you green Komodo is bright red you know you are at 250 F

    Coool!!

  14. I know most woods have issues when they are being turned to dust. The rosewoods especially are sensitizers that can create bad reactions. But the routs of entry are inhalation and to some degree absorption through the skin. You end up with a whole different set of issues when you ingest a product that has been heated or burned. The Wicked good competition blend used primarily exotic hardwoods to make their lump. I was hoping someone would have seen a link somewhere out there that could shed some light on these other woods.

BTW yes the Rosewoods have an awesome aroma, (residual odor noted after removing my dust mask) when you are converting them to dust. I was just imagining what that would convert to taste wise.

  15. You never know when an idea might pan out. I got an e-mail from our DC folks today requesting ideas and equipment to operate renewable power at Iraqi bases. They are looking to cut down on the supply convoys that are at constant risk of attack. They referenced this mobile solar and wind unit as a possibility. If I had a $100K and lived someplace where the sun shone in the winter I wouldn't mind popping one of these babies up in the back yard. If for no other reason than to just piss off my homeowners association.

  16. Interesting stuff.

I am going to have to contact some folks at the Army Environmental Center and see if they have a line one of the hummers they referenced in the news clip. Maybe they have a line on a Department of Energy grant available with it so we can test a prototype of their gas generator. It would be interesting to see if the energy balance is efficient enough to make it a viable alternative to fossil fuels.

Amazing what you can learn of a grill site.

    Thanx for the tip

  17. Decided to drill the forum here for some info.

I have a growing collection of wood scraps building up in my shop. I have managed to go through most of the oak, cherry and maple this summer using them as smoking supplements for the KK.

I am getting down to ths scraps of more or less tropical exotics, rosewoods, bubinga, zebrawood...

Has anyone seen or heard of a link that can give me an idea of which woods could create grill or health problems.

    Thanx

  18. Got a relative who was a good strict father when his daughter started dating. Kept a cup by the front door in which her suitors had to place all their piercings until the date was over. Made for some very uncomfortable moments.:P:P:P

    I always admired that.

About 3 years later, she moved out, quit school and started stripping for a living.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Well, the first clue that your daughter is on a bad path is when you have to have the cup for the boyfriends piercings. That is just not a good sign :?

It does nmake me feel a little better about the guys my daughters have dated. Yes they are doofuses and dweebs, (Typical teenage boys) But I did not have to worry about the seting off the metal detector at the airport.
