  1. Regards to another fellow Torontonian! I am born and raised but now live in Florida (of course by choice). Why not have year round BBQ temperatures and max useage of the new KK....I think it will be a bit longer before I get into firing this sculpted masterpieceup at least for the burn-in. So when is yours due?
  2. Apparently I have the newer draft door baffle instead of the ash screen in the firebox, still trying to figure it all out. Anyhow Dennis explained where it should go however I do not see anywhere how to cleanout the ashes although the manual states there is no reason to remove the charcoal basket. I'm not understanding exactly how it is done...help!!! Any explanation as to what the bottom of the firebox is supposed to be configured and if someone has a picture of it would be greatly appreciated. I am skeptical firing it up until I have completed my "checklist" rather than risking damage.

  4. Thank you! Sipping some tall cool ones is something I can do very well.....and why not just watch it burn itself in and gloat? PM? Do you already have my email address? Thank you for the offer re: manual...it did not come with one that I could see but I can always ask Dennis to send it as he is a great guy. When I took out all the grills and accessories I noticed at the very bottom of the KK where the ash pan is there is one small deflector of some kind that fits into either one of the prongs coming from the vent drawers...should there be two that you know of?

  6. After this day of moving the KK I cannot fathom what you had to go through with the 32! At almost sixty years old and solo I cannot believeI moved this thing on my own. In actuality the 23 is WAY bigger than I will ever need.
  7. It's not that I am worried someone will steal it, where I live next to a canal in Florida there are the odd alligators hanging around on the dock and contrary to what you hear about them being slow.....they have blazing speed!
  8. What's going on in the Maritimes? Are you in Halifax? I am transplant from Toronto living here in Ft.Lauderdale.....do you already own a KK or waiting for delivery?
  9. Did it! All by myself and I hope I never have to face that again-uncrating was a snap, after staring at it on the platform I tried to best analyze how I will get it off its stand using the dolly or better yet I have a small hydaulic jack on rollers presented more than a challenge. Push come to shove I muscled it off onto its feet and saw it can be sort of easily pushed but wound up doing the leap frog method as suggested (thank you for that). I have documented every step of the move on camera for all to see once posted. I even thought it may be able to go through my front door as there is plenty of width but the step up wasn't possible attempting it on my own. All I have were two wooden boards barely wide enough but it had to do. Of course the sky opened up and battled through a thunderstorm but both the KK and myself did well. It is all snuggled and placed in the corner deck with a perfect fit. Once the plastic and cardboard was all ripped off it revealed its true beauty! When I finally opened her up the hardware was amazing and HEAVY...wow. I guess Dennis doesn't include an operating manual but with the member's help on the forum and videos I will see what goes where. Of course when the initial burn-is done and ready for the virgin cook I will be taking pictures as well. Stay tuned......
  10. Yikes.....I guess scrap the dolly plan! The one pictured is the one I have. Are you saying if I use the leapfrog method by laying down the planks I could still use the dolly or just roll the KK om its own wheels?
  11. I couldn't really say although it's blue! It is the same type or capacity you would see the guys use for loading their trucks off a tailgate. Wheels are large and they are pneumatic so they should handle some serious weight. In any event if I can get the KK on it and lean it enough it should roll just fine. Because it has to roll over the lawn and lots of rough grass the wheels on the KK would get stuck instantly so I have to still think about this. In the meantime the beauty is still crated and wrapped up.....
  12. Thanks everyone.....this is truly exciting! Believe it or not this KK 23 is all for ME....no wife or family to feed so I can do what I want and cook what I want a MUCH as I want. Having said that I guess I am on my own to uncrate and move this behemoth so here I am sipping a coffee and staring at it trying to plan it out. Good thing I bought a dolly lift with pneumatic tires so I am hopeful she will get a smooth ride around the side of the house into her final position on the patio. Suppose if I need some help I will recruit it. Yes, I will snap lots of pix for our viewing pleasure step by step. Also appreciate the members for their great advice and tips....keep them coming...please. PS: In my old-ER age I have been collecting different BBQ smoking machines as a sort of amusement...I even had a trailer mounted good ole' barrel rotisserie smoker (almost 1000 lbs) that I feed big oak logs into and talk about WORK....but much fun and quite a challenge (pix to come). AND for the lazy days a pellet machine so I can marvel at technology!
  13. Hello to all KK members....just had the truck drop off my new cooker still in its crate and in my garage. Just staring at this giant beast trying to figure out where to start first. There is a great instructional video of exactly how its done step by step. Also I am completely inexperienced in the world of Kamado cooking as this is my very first one. If anybody feels like sharing some good information and tips this would be much appreciated and I thank you for it.
