  1. I had that thought. I had had the impression that the reshipment from Atlanta was coming on a different carrier, but I am pretty sure (95%) that today's delivery was on the same carrier as last week's. So perhaps the redelivery of the Kingsford to Atlanta was the only thing screwed up, and I will still get mine on Monday. It is a hope anyway.
  2. Lightening does strike twice Yesterday afternoon, for the 2nd time, I got the call I had been waiting for --- my cooker, ordered 4/17/10, was being delivered today. After waiting for the truck for 3 hours, it finally came. Lo and behold, it was another Matte Black Kingsford (probably the same one that was delivered last week). I am not happy.
  3. Back to the original topic! I finally got a new shipper id/tracking number. I got on their website, and it was reported as being delivered yesterday! Their Atlanta number was closed, but I got through to LA and the web was wrong, it is still in Atlanta, and is expected to get to me on Monday. Anticipation all over again! Andrew
  4. Re: Reply to Joe I grew up in Ann Arbor. We were friends with the guy that sold Tom Monaghan his first pizza shop --- Dominick DeVarti, of "Dominick's" fame. I went to school with his son Rich, who now owns and runs the restaurant. Sadly Dominick died a few years ago. Best submarine sandwich I have ever had. I make a point of eating there every time I get to A^2. Highly recommended. ah
  5. Sh*t happens. Dennis actually picked up his 310 number, at 11pm or 12 midnight (I am not sure if he is now 11 or 12 hours ahead). He just emailed me that the Kingsford sent to me was supposed to go to Atlanta, and hopes that mine was sent there. That is a lot closer to Boston than California, so that would be good news. The chicken I bought for the first cook (relatively low temp, and short enough cooking time for dinner) will go on the weber kettle. I am teaching my 18 year old, new HS grad, son to grill and barbecue, so it is not all bad (he is much more likely to have access to a weber than a KK for the next 5-10 years...) More anticipation...
  6. A KK came, but not mine. It was a matte black Kingsford model. Mine is a black matte/black glass plaid. Mine does not have a Kingsford logo on it. So it is back on the truck, and an email and phone call will go out to Dennis to track down my cooker and get it to me fast. I peaked into the crate and all I could tell through the plastic was that it was black, so I thought it was the right one. Oh well, back to waiting... Andrew PS I was too busy recrating it to take any pictures. The trucker was kind enough to wait.
  7. Two months ago today I placed my order. The truckers called today, and are coming between 9 and 5 tomorrow (in the morning they will give me a tighter window). As I will not have time for a low and slow for dinner, I will have to grill (with the cooker on our front pathway, as the truckers will not wheel it over the grass path to the patio, perhaps a bribe will help). Any rules of thumb between the measured dome temp on the included thermometer and the main grill temp? Low and slow Saturday, try to rally some help and move it out back on Sunday. Go Celtics (is this too partisan?)! Andrew
  8. When my 20 year old New Braunfels finally rusted out I started research on a replacement on Usenet, posting to alt.food.barbecue. I knew that ceramic cookers existed, but did not know much about them. A response to my question there mentioned KK as an ultra high end cooker. A week of reading these forums, reviews, and trading emails with Dennis led to my order on April 17th. Glass Black/Matte Black plaid. My cover came yesterday. I am still waiting for mine. I believe the ship is due in California on June 2nd, but then it has to clear customs and ride 3000 odd miles on a truck. So I probably have more than three more weeks of waiting.
  9. Re: level and stable Level is part of the idea, but 8" of sand sounds like too much. I fear the rains would wash out such a deep layer. I was think just enough to level the irregularities on the patio, and possibly a bead of caulk to keep the "creek" away from the sand. -- Andrew
  10. I had thought of a border, with a gap to drain any rain. (As you know, it has been rather wet in eastern MA lately!) -- Andrew
  11. Hello all, I ordered a 23" cooker a week ago. It should be on the 4/30 container. I am putting it on our patio. The patio is concrete brick, and no longer as level as I would like. Also, when we get very heavy rains (as we did this spring) there is a bit of a creek on the patio for a couple of days. Less than an inch deep. I was thinking of getting a 36"x36"x1" piece of stone to use as a stand. Would this present any problem for the cooker? Do the wheels lock? I would either bed the stone with fine sand, or perhaps some concrete. Again, advice would be welcome. Thanks in advance. Reading these forums played a large part in my decision to get such a high end cooker. -- Andrew
