  1. Re: KK Arrived Today!! Can someone direct me to the "break-in" instructions for my KK somewhere on the forum? I've seen bits and pieces of advice for firing it up the first few times, but want to make sure I'm covering my bases. Thanks.
  2. My 23" OTB Metallic Bronze beauty arrived a day earlier than expected, and all I can say is WOW! It exceeded my expectations in every way. And, thanks to all the great advice I received on this forum, I was well prepared for the delivery. I uncrated the Kamado, unpackaged all the accessories, and had it moved and set up in under two hours (with the help of two strong young men). Well, I said I was prepared, but we were lacking one key thing - a nice piece of meat to christen it with. So, don't laugh, but we improvised. I started the cooker up with the coco-char I received with the grill, added some apple chunks, threw a cast iron skillet on the lower grate with some peanut oil, and we cooked up some salmon patties! They were the best I ever had, no lie! I included a picture of my new work of art in its spot on my deck. Thanks again for all the advice. Can't wait to fire it up again tomorrow.
  3. Re: KK Stability TNT, what are the dimensions on your stainless? I like the idea, and will look into it.
  4. Re: KK Stability Good suggestion. I did think about it, but I need to look into it. I definitely want it to look good! Thanks.
  5. Re: KK Stability CP, it does sound like our set up is very similar. That makes me feel better. I appreciate your offer of help set up my grill. I think I can handle it with a couple of friends, but I'll let you know if I run into any trouble. I am hoping to hear something about shipping soon - my KK was due to arrive in the LA port on 10/10. I am up in Olathe, so not too far from you. I am definitely interested in learning from you. I having been shopping for grill mats - let me know if you have a recommendation. Not sure if you use the coco-char, but if you do, perhaps we can share an order to reduce shipping. Let's keep in touch.
  6. Re: KK Stability That's what I was thinking. The beauty of the design is it's teardrop shape, which I believe is the most wind efficient shape there is. Thanks everyone for your feedback.
  7. Re: New Member, New KK Coming. How will I move it? Great suggestions. Thanks everyone. If the delivery driver has the right dolly for the job, I will definitely have some cash ready to entice him! Otherwise, I will probably rent an appliance dolly to get it up the front step, through the house, and out the back door to the elevated deck, while crated. Going through the yard with the pallet jack is not an option, since there are 12 steps up to my deck. I'll let everyone know how it goes.
  8. Re: Just ordered a KK, new to forum Thanks for all the well wishes and advice. Can't wait for the first cook. I've been spending all of my free time researching fuels, starters, accessories, recipes, etc. I plan to post pictures and stories....
  9. Re: KK Stability Yes, I have a permanent spot, but it's exposed to the heavy Kansas winds. I will try to find a way to secure the KK so there's no chance of it blowing over.
  10. Re: KK Stability Do you think I'll be able to roll it ony cedar decking without damaging the wood? I'm guessing I will have to put plywood under it, but I could roll it into a corner. I do plan to cook through the winter and spring, so it will be a hassle moving it back and forth. I'll see if I can come up with an elegant an effective way to secure it. Open to suggestions. Thanks.
  11. Re: Just ordered a KK, new to forum I did order 200# of coco-char. Can't wait to try it out!
  12. In anticipation of the arrival of my KK, I am trying to plan ahead. I live in East-Central Kansas. Anyone that's ever lived here knows that this is one windy place. My KK will will resting about 10 feet above ground on my deck, exposed to the 50+mph southerly gusts we experience in the spring. I have already had two grills, plus my deck furniture, tipped over and blown "clean off the deck". At 568 pounds, should I be concerned that my 23" KK will tip? If so, I will try to figure out a way to secure it to the deck. Probably a no-brainer.
  13. Re: Help Needed - New KK YouTube Channel Done. Looks like we need some more videos! I would be interested in contributing, once my KK arrives.
  14. I'm looking for ideas ahead of the arrival of my new most-prized possession. I assume the shipper will drop the crate on my driveway, and that I may be able to talk him into (read: grease his palms) moving it into the garage for me. I will then have to figure out how to get it to my back deck. I'm sure many of you have experienced and solved this dilemma, so I thought I'd elicit some advice. I have one step up to the front doorway (plus the threshold), through the foyer and living room, and then a step down to the deck. I own a hand truck with inflatable tires. Will I be able to pick up the KK with the hand truck, and maneuver up the step, through the house, and down onto the deck? Will I need to remove the dome? How many young, strong guys will I need to help me? Any tips/advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.....
  15. Re: New KK coming to Ottawa, Kansas! Being a newby, I just realized that you ordered your KK last year in Oct! I assume you're loving it? The offer still stands for sharing the coco charcoal, if you're interested.
  16. Re: New KK coming to Ottawa, Kansas! Hey CP, I'm up in Olathe, and just ordered a KK as well. It is due in the LA inventory on 10/10, so I'm hoping to receive it in a couple of weeks. I ordered the 23" metallic bronze, also with the side tables. I'm hoping for another mild winter, so I don't have to brave the elements to keep smoking through winter! I also ordered 200# of the extruded coconut charcoal. I'd be happy to share a box or two with you if you want to try it. I'll post my thoughts after I do a few cooks with it. Dennis made a pretty good pitch on it, and the reviews on Naked Wiz were excellent. It apparently gives you a pure flavor profile, so you add only the wood flavors you want for a specific cook, without impurities from your lump charcoal. Congrats on your purchase, and hope you love it.
  17. Hi all, My name in Mike, and I live in the Kansas City area. I ordered a metallic bronze 23" OTB today, and hope to get it in the next 3 weeks or so. I am new to the forum, and to kamado cooking. As you might imagine, I am extremely excited about this product, and can't wait to start learning how to take advantage of this primo grill. I have a passion for BBQ, and plan to make a hobby of trying to duplicate my favorite pulled pork, brisket, and ribs. I look forward to taking advantage of all of the expertise and sharing on this forum, and hope to add value in the future.
