  1. Cobb Grill for $69 at Red Envelope DJ if you are still interested the Cobb grill is on sale at redenvelope.com for $69. Plus enter promo code 123HOLIDAY for free shipping on orders over $50. http://www.redenvelope.com/re/gifts/pro ... 9737&nc2=1
  2. Yeah really, 2k of stainless. Don't underestimate the difficulty and labor to get that stainless to make those curves! If it were easy I would have had a hammered copper unit many moons ago. My guess is that it is stamped out and formed on a heavy equipment in about 30 seconds not hand hammered.
  3. Primo Kamado = $729 Viking SS Shell = $2871. That is one expensive shell.
  4. Re: Just dump light and go Yes and the best part is everyone thinks you slaved all day over a hot grill.
  5. I was looking at similar roasting racks but could not find one that held more than 6 slabs. I usually brine em rub em put em on and come back 5 to 6 hours later. The Traeger rack is pretty good sized and the slots are pretty wide. We'll see how it works. If it turns out to be more trouble than its worth I will probably just continue to roll them up when I have a large cook.
  6. Looks like Viking is trying to enter the high end Kamado game. At $3600 it costs more than a KK and doesn't look nearly as nice.
  7. I have a party coming up and was looking for a rib rack that held a lot of racks. I found a rack that holds 8 slabs. It is pretty heavy guage and sturdy. It is on sale on the Traeger outlet site for $25. I thought some others might be interested. http://www.traegeroutlet.com/inc/sdetail/149
  8. Just dump light and go I am new to ceramic cookers and I will probably get a Stoker sometime in the future but I haven't really needed it yet. I have done ribs, a brisket, a 10lb sirloin tip roast and pork shoulders overnight. 1/4 turn on the tophat and a sliver open on the bottom pinwheel vent and it sits between 225 to 250 all day/night long. I just dump in the lump with no sorting or stacking. I put a 3" stick of fat wood in the middle and light it with a propane torch. Probably the easiest time I have ever had with a grill and with the best results.
  9. They are built to destroy. She can turn a 2x4 into toothpicks in a matter of minutes. Now you know why it is so important she doesn't escape while we are not home.
  10. That sounds very familiar. I bet Houdini had a Moluccan as a pet when he was a kid.
  11. Re: Cockatoo Just let her watch a few rotisserie sessions with poultry and see if she quiets down That research phase of BGE --> MexiK --> KK sounds awfully familiar... Welcome aboard! Unfortunately like Firemonkey's nothing scares this bird not even a 100lb Chocolate lab. She rules the roost. Welcome Mctoo---------- That was my path, but insert at the beginning the desire for a really nice tin gasser to upgrade from my Weber Genesis.... REALLY glad I found my way here! I actually purchased a Weber Summit Gold D6 in November. Weber is headquarted about 20 minutes from my house and I have an inside connection who got me an employee discount. I have the Summit and an old 22 1/2" One Touch Gold Kettle. I really like the Webers and each has a purpose. The D6 does a great job for the quick weeknight dinner, very wife friendly. I have even smoked some things on it and they turned out ok. Not as good as on the KK but with the dedicated smoker box and rotisserie it was passable. The size of the D6 is also great for parties. The plan for future parties is the main entree on the KK and the sides etc. on the D6.
  12. Thanks All Living in the woods is great until the leaves start falling. At least we will never run out of wood chunks. No armadillos yet but trips to Lockhart Texas did inspire me to find a better way to BBQ. I wish I had more experience with ceramics as I would have been eating better BBQ longer. In my quest for a BGE I came across this old Kamado Pot on Craigslist. An old Air Force vet brought it back from Japan in 1972. He fired it once to season it and decided to move. He put it in storage for 34 years. It was in too good of shape to pass up for the price he wanted.
  13. Hi, I have been lurking for a while but waited to post until I purchased. I was going to buy a Big Green Egg when Internet research brought me to the Mexi K site. Epinion reviews stopped me from purchasing a #7 Mexi K. I stumbled on this forum and purchased a KK. I went back and forth between the OTB and the Classic and a textured vs. tiled. I liked the symmetry of the Classic and the Cloud Blue on Sale won me over. It looks great on my patio. I added some pictures of the cooker on my patio and of the first cook last weekend. The ribs were great.
