  1. Baja Alabama! :supz:

Thanks for the welcome.. I am over in the Tampa Bay area were 11 out of 10 households have season passes to Disney World, but could have had a Komodo instead.

Your cooker is looking saweet. You will really enjoy cooking on it!

Turtle - you are not the only Tampa owner! I have an early model, and I was a reference for someone else who I think also ordered.

Any potential customers that want to see one in person is more than welcome at my house. As a former owner of one of the "others" I can also discuss the differences.

  2. schweinshaxe

BTW, any chance you got a schweinshaxe recipe (I am not real fond of the generic recipe that pops up 10k times when you do a Google search - I am looking for the real deal)? German foods are also among my favorites! Along with German beer - but you never would have guessed I like beer - would you? hehehehe

    -=Jasen=-

Jasen - I've got 5 different recipes - all in German. Be glad to scan the pages and post for you

One is Nuremberg style, one Munich - both of which are really boiled. Then from another old Bavarian cookbook, with a picture of schweinshaxe on the cover, there are 3 recipes - one broiled, one boiled and one grilled.

If you speak Deutsch, I'll post a scan. Otherwise if you pick one, I'll have my wife translate it - of course that will be at a price to me, which means you'll have to pay me with a good homebrew recipe. Hoppy extract (haven't graduated to all grain yet). :)

  3. Old K table

Did you remove the old stainless band and the hinges/springs? If so, how do you roll it around if needed without a grip?

Ideally I'd like a top that opened and closed, but didn't reuse the Mexi-K hinges for a more sleek look like the KK. Did you close in the draft door in any way?

Then again, maybe I'll just trash it since it is crumbling. Maybe Dennis will share some of his cook center plans? Dennis, please? :)

  4. Very cool that you posted. It's beautiful.

Do you like the latching/dome opening mechanism?

Besides customer service, it's my favorite feature! Nothing quite like the 2 handed heavy operation of the Mexi-K. My wife wouldn't even touch the Mexi-K, but she will the KK.

  5. People have been asking for pictures of KK's in place, so here's my baby

And a close up, yes, that is a Mexi-K thermometer. It's the only thing that still works from that one. I bought my KK before Dennis started including them.

  6. Teak tables

"With 600 containers of teak furniture under my belt.. This week I'm going to dabble in making some teak tables/BBQ centers that an OTB would fit into.."

Dennis - Sign me up. I'm your man. I know it's a tough job, but I'm willing to volunteer to beta test the tables! No charge! I know I know, it's hard to believe the kindness of strangers.

I've been thinking of doing something myself, but maybe I'll just wait for your engineering

Don't forget my accessories when you get a chance :?:

  7. Re: Glad you asked!!

Starting June 1st All Deluxe and Supreme models will come standard with a Tel-Tru thermometer' date=' http://www.teltru.com

You and your Komodo deserve the best. Tel-Tru is a World-Class temperature instrument not one of the cheapo made in China thermometers that come with lesser ceramics

Your Komodo will use a 5" long stem thermometer, model LT225R,

You may specify the 150º to 750º  or 200º to 1000º model

But Dennis, that cheapo thermometer is the only thing from my Mexi K that still works!

  8. Hi all!

I'm a new owner of a KK. I'm extremely happy with the product. I can't come up with the proper adjective to adequately explain how happy I am with the customer service. The only "bad" thing about the customer service is that it is spoiling me for any other company I have to deal with!

I'm in Tampa FL and more than willing to showcase my KK. Anybody stopping by would also get to see my Mexi-K #7 with cracks through the top and the bottom unit that is crumbling. Let me know with enough notice and any visitors can stay for some KK food (you bring the beer  )

Soon, thanks to some custom work by Dennis's staff, my Mexi-K will have a flat top and will be a table top next to the functional KK. I'm hoping he finds a way to attach to the Mexi hinges so I can use it for lump storage.

Here's the short story - my Mexi-K dome crumbled. After 4 months I finally got that replaced (with me paying shipping both ways as they wanted to see the crumbled dome, pictures weren't sufficient). A year later, several cracks developed all the way thru such that smoke came out. Then the bottom began crumbling next to the hinge bolts. Six inches wide by 2 inches deep of concrete falling out. It took 6 months of emails (they never answered and never returned any of my calls, including a few pretending to be a new buyer wanting to place an order) and they FINALLY agreed to replace it. Then they said they would replace it when they could afford it. Of course I had to pay shipping. That was only going to be the top and bottom - but not base, not the hinges or bands. They couldn't even tell me if the bolt holes for the bands would line up with my bands. So I decided it would be better/smarter to spend MORE money with KK to get a better product with service than to pay shipping for a partially new Mexi-K and probably be facing the same problems again in a year.

KK has been a dream. The product has been a dream. I must say I love the one touch open feature. Providing the socket for the spring is a nice touch. So was including a small iron to take apart the crate. The little touchs are great and also add up to attention to detail.

That's the last of my Mexi bashing on the forum  . If anyone wants more detail, I'll be glad to discuss off line. Will be glad to compare/contrast the products and/or service.

I look forward to lots of good cooks on my KK. Hope the recipe section of the forum takes off. Would also like to see pictures of other K's in their homes :D

Once my in laws leave from an extended visit, I hope to participate more actively here.

    Kevin
