  1. Re: Happy 4th of July!

to my fellow americans! happy independance day! celebrate by filling the air with the scent of roasting pork, beef, and/or chicken! be thankful we live in a free country, and are blessed with the best food in the world, among other things...

    :usa2::usa2::usa2::usa2::usa2::usa2::usa2::usa2:

Happy Fourth of July you guys (from down-under) :D:D

We have the Kitty Hawk arriving here.. so should be lots of your fellow countrymen in Sydney for the next few days!!

Kitty Hawk.. that's cool. I visited Kill Devil hill and found it worth the trip out there to see where it first flew.

There are memorial stones set up where they began the flights from the rail system they had set up and also to the location where the first four flights landed. The longest and last flight landed a little hard and ended their experiments for the day. At the time of their success it was scientifically documented but little recognized, as the Wright brothers were not the darlings of the powers that were funding the race.. and of course there were many skeptics that it could actually be done.

It was a memorable moment to walk the length of the longest flight and turn around to see were it started. I can't imagine the sense of awe the Wright brothers had when they stood there and looked back to were they had lifted off! (Their fourth and last flight of the day was much longer than the first three hops and was really the one that was unquestionably flying.) The race to powered flight (and the following claims of patents and honor for being first) is an exciting one filled with power struggles of rich and poor, science-o-philes and lawyers, and of course politicians.. on a grand scale.. across continents.

  2. Grill Light, will travel

I have a grill light too that I got in the sporting goods section of Wal-mart or Target. It uses a built in bracket called a noggin. :D And even helps make the treck down the trail to your cooker.8) And if you only use it at night then you won't loose cool points cause your neighbors can't be for sure who is wearing it!

  3. I know I have seen walkerswoods seasonings locally...either publix, fresh market or whole foods. You may have a look at one of those, Turtle.

If nothing else, you can ask publix to get you some - they are good about doing stuff like that. :D

Thanks! I'll check at Publix. They are a good store.

  4. Walkerswood

Hey Walkerswood looked like they had some excellent sauces, rubs, and spices. I was gonna order some until I discovered that website must be shutting down business. All their products are out of stock.. except the pickle sauce.:x

The value of your Walkerswood flavored pork fingers just went up tremendously! :D

  5. This is sorta off topic for a BBQ forum but I was just reading the Happy Campers section and couldn't help but think how much nicer collecting "frequent flyer" miles would be if Dennis ran the show at our favorite airline.

If airline CEOs built ceramic cookers then they would often be late, cracked, rusted out, mis-fit, overpriced, and include a couple sheets of TP disguised as a warranty.

Imagine if we pulled Dennis away and got him into that airline CEO job...Oh the dilemma... Do I want my airline to work or do I want my BBQ?

  6. Re: Wow, what a beautiful cooking machine!

....I did learn how to regulate the temp quite well with just damper control, no Guru. OK, time to go for the big one.... Lit in 3 places with a mapp torch, let'er get to about 200 then started closing it down. I found that with the top damper open 1/4 turn, and the bottom fine air controller open about 1/8", the temp settled down nicely at about 220-230 deg. F. ...

No pics, but WoodieB has been reading up on the forum enough to know that he might be able to get a pass from Pork Chop, for dreaming sans-guru! :D

  7. Re: Disappearing template..

We are holding you to this!!! Might have a flogging waiting on you in the states were these side tables not ready!!! :smt075:pottytrain2::smt079

    -=Jasen=-

Whats the rush... My webber kettle makes a great side table and many new KK users have a very reliable POS table. :D:lol:

  8. I thought that was a hook so he could chain his rib-monkey there and have it tend the grill :D Or a really big dog to defend against his neighbors

:D Your right, on closer inspection it does look like a rib monkey hook. A dog wouln't stand for being chained to such a flimsy hook while raw meet is swallowed by a newbie in his own back yard. :D

  9. Re: Frog Hooks!

I noticed that earlier and admired it... but not as much as what appears to be a beer bottle opener down close to your electric outlet.

Hey Firemonkey, do you have a wall near your cooker? Check out the wall behind my cooker. Holding racks and utensils was the purpose I bought this little frog shaped hanging hook holder thingie! Works great and will hold the lower and main grill at the same time.

  10. YAY!! Finally, another "mid atlantic" person!! I was surrounded for a while by Texas and Florida, and deep south. :) Just me and JD for a bit.

    Nice to see you.

and just what's wrong with Florida. By the way I'm from Boston.

    Welcome aboard.

Yeah! What's wrong with Florida. :D I was born in Tampa... before central air. What is this with people saying Fla. is hot? Not during tourist season!

  11. Re: New Hang Out

    Hey all,

Today was the first time I heard about and visited this site. Found it doing a google search running down complaints on the place I just jumped from. This looks like the new place for a barbecue guy using a similar style cooker to hang out. The forum I just left might be on it's last leg if they don't get it together. I also see that I'm not the only person to move over to this forum. I recognize quite a few familiar names. Looks like I'm just little slow to get here. Makes me feel comfy. Hello everyone.

Welcome aboard! I for one look forward to the contributions that will come with all your experience in the ceramic cooking field. There are a fair number of us newbies and we have benefited from the "grownups" knowledge  Plus its just plain good to have more folks on the forum who like good food! :D

  12. A cornish game hin??

see, that's the problem with the ol' kk; just one shoulder seems so lonely all by itself in there. i don't feel like i'm really cooking doing less than a pair of butts on an overnite.

looks nice deej!! we'll be seeing the obligatory "food porn" bbq sandwich shot soon! what's the sauce of choice today deej?

Heh, heh. The KK surface area makes a single pork butt look like a cornish game hin.

Looking good and stylin, Deej! Congrats!

  13. Re: Wow.

Approved by the color police?

As you have probably observed, Curly is the Color Constable! And since he says your cooker would be a high demand item, then you have gained his ringing color certification and endorsement. :smt003

Of course the rest of us would have overthrown him if he had ruled incorrectly. :smt003
