  1. When he gets older' date=' he'll realize he was wrong about the BGE.[/quote']

    Naaaaaaaaaahhhhh :lol::lol::wink:

Here's the order of evolution of ceramic cookers (IMO, based on size/features/permformance):

    1. Clay Kamado

    2. BGE

    3. Mexi-K

    4. Komodo Kamado

I'm sure there are those who will disagree, again my opinion, having owned all four.

After Gerard's experience with the K I don't know that it would rate higher than a webber kettle knockoff from K-mart.

  2. I was talking the other day with a friend who is a BBQ nut (I say that in the kindest way :D ).

He travels a lot and when on his trips to different states he thinks nothing of driving five hours one way just to get to a famous BBQ joint. He also collects the sauces of joints from all over the country--he has a whole room in his house dedicated to showcasing his extensive collection of sauces.

But here is the question for our expert chefs here on the board....

Have any of you ever done ribs indirect at 180 degrees for 18 hours? This guys swares it is the only way. Personally I am happy with the 6 hour method at 250. What do the experts think??

  3. Did you marinate it flat, then stuff it and tie? Or marinate it already rolled and tied?

    Sure looks yummy!

I've never been a lamb fan. I guess I'll have to try it again as "a grown up." Wasn't ever a "eating a furry lammy" thing, just I didn't like the taste.

Layed flat to put all the spices in it and rolled it back up for the marinade. I think the marinade idea turned out to be a waste of good orange juice.

Lamb with lots of spices is like coffee. Almost everyone thinks it smells great, but far fewer actually like the way it tastes.

  4. I touched base with the guy who took 10 bags a week or so ago. He will be ready when we are. I still have about 100# - What do you have left? Do you remember who you shared a bag with in case they liked it?

We can probably put a deal together with a weeks notice. Its always in the warehouse, and we have our players in order. Just let me know.

If anyone else is interested in Lazarri mesquite lump for $12/bag (40#) in the central Florida area, let us know.

I can vouch for the Lazarri. I am very pleased with it!

I am down to about 60 lbs. and am good for up to 10 bags whenever the trigger man pulls. :smt003

"billwelan" was the other KK owner here in the Tampa area that bought some of the last batch.

If you have your Ultimate by the time we do another pickup, there will be a need for bibs because of the drooling!

  5. Re: The long wait begins...

My journey has come full circle. From my first post on this board' date=' just about a year ago, to counting days until the big truck rolls up and delivers my grill.[/quote']

That is a real beauty!! Congratulations! Your K is going to experience some serious self-confidence issues when that baby rolls into town. :smt003

On a side note, has anyone in the FL lump co-op epressed an interest in a new pallet?

  6. f you check the price list iit states. "BBQ Guru faceplate (Guru-inducer tube ready."

I thought the motor fit into the tube. I'll call guru back tomorrow. What part do I need to ask for exactly? I'm telling the guy Komodo and he thinks I'm saying Kamado and it just get's worse from there :)

Is this what it looks like? It's all I could find on the website. It costs $35.

    Z_800-1001-015.jpg

That is what I use. It works great.

  7. Re: Noses and seeing stuff

Always wondered that about a dog. There's the nose waaaay down there. And the eyes are waaaay up there. And the nose is between the eyes and the peas. Yet, there's a pile of peas in the bowl. Couldn't SEE the peas to push them aside, so musta nosed them aside. Once they're in the mouth, they're down to the tummy, so prolly never made it in there.

    That's a dexterous nose. Very impressive. :)

You should see Chubby use his nose when he's burying something...he's good with that thing  It's usually got the red clay on it cause he's got stuff buried all around.

I was playing catch with him, or rather, I throw the ball, he runs and gets it and runs from me until I can make him stop long enough to pry the ball from his clenched teeth and throw it again.

Hehe! Those rascilly dogs... The easiest way I have dealt with these rascals is to have a second ball to throw so they let go of the first one. But, as soon as I tought that I had outsmarted them, it dawned on me that I had been tricked into buying two toys instead of just one! :smt003

  8. Re: Grilling Wok

...Its even healthy enough for Majestik - see the brown rice :D

Ahh, that's what that was. I thought maybe some local creepy crawler had found it's way onto your menu

I thought it might have been the meat from the Thai Mang Dah critters--sans shells. :smt003

    Nah... knew better than that!

Thanks Firemonkey for the pics. Great looking meal!!

  9. ...

I took the tension off the spring and, with the lid lying flat, loosened and then re-tightened all 4 back nuts. The the lid definitely nestled down some b/c I then had to re-adjust the front latch plates to eliminate some play that was not there before. Simple...

FT, I have my fingers crossed for you..!! Good luck!! Turtle

  10. I'm not reversing tack here...but reviewing Dennis' explanation that there is actually "meat" and not just "goo" in them does add a little encouragement.

I liken our reaction to these things to the way my oldest son views things like shrimp, crawfish, or (my favorite as a native Marylander) crabs. To the uninitiated all of the above have a certain degree of shock factor

Maybe they are good eating....y'all go first, though :D

When I was a kid I seem to remember another young kid on TV named "Mikey" that would "eat anything". :smt045

Back then it was the introduction of "Life Cereal". Maybe someone can find Mikey for us. As an adult, he may have grown up to be even more daring! Since we all grew to understand that "Life Cereal" tastes good, inspite of our first reaction.. then posibly we could...

    Possibly we could...

On second thought, wasn't Mikey in the obits back in 1999? :smt003

  11. Re: Spicy Smoked Thai Mang Dah, the Other Grey Meat!

Wow those look like they have a lot of flavor!

With your new website coming soon, you may consider multipe versions, each with pictures of regional specialties uniquely presented according to the location of the websurfer's IP address. Egypt websurfers could have pics of camel, Australia pics of kangeroo, South America pics of llamas, etc.

Pictures of these litte guys have got to impact sales!

  12. Re: Success at last !!

    Niiice setting for the KK!

Good to hear your cooks are on track-- and without a guru no less! I havn't mastered the low and slow without a guru. (Porkchop may chime in and give you special kudos for KK cooking sans guru!) I'm a newbie too and concur that the folks here on the board are a great help! They have a lot of invaluable insight and guidance!

  13. Re: foodsaver

Going back a few posts but... if I were to go get a food-saver' date=' which model do people recommend? I see ones going all the way from 50-200 bucks.[/quote']

I have the V2490 from COSTCO.

    http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.as ... 25*90*749*

Comes with canister containers, stores bags inside appliance, accepts wide or regular size bags, and I am real happy with it! Works great for freezing the extras! Never imagined what a difference it made till I started using one!

  14. Adjusted the back hinge?

    ...

I love the cooker but wish it would shut down better/faster to preserve the charcoal. It probably just needs to be tweaked a little bit.

Some folks have had to adjust the back hinge (I did). If I recall correctly I took all the tension off the hinge spring and disconected. Then loosened the top nuts on the hinge. This allowed the dome to fully sit flat on the lower base. Then tightened the hinge nuts back, and then readjust the front latch too. Then finally reconnected the spring and added the tension back in. Since the top and bottom are cast, once you have the hinge tightened with the dome flat, it will not leak. I use mine alot and haven't had to adjust since.

The following link talks about it too..

  15. I guess it was kinda cryptic but I'll bet Rorkin got it. Just that Rorkin lives in Maryland and when I wrote that last post I was thinking that was where I picked my KK up from. But guess what, it was not Maryland it was Virginia:? It was just really near DC that I picked up my KK, and the other guy actually worked in DC and I was thinking about Bethesda MD when I read Rorkin's post and I lived in Bethesda and Germantown MD while I worked in DC. Does that all make sense? But it didn't actually get born in Virginia, that's just where it decided to live for a really short time after it's Indonesian birth, then I went up and got it.

I don't know, whatever, hey I used to live in Miami, and I was born in Lauringburg NC. I lived in San diego and San Francisco. For awhile I lived in Boston, and then there was the year in Tampa. I lived on Guantanomo Bay for a year to doing construction work at the base. I lived in Richmond for awhile and Winston-Salem too. I also spent some time in Memphis and a bit in Orlando. As I said above, a year or so in Bethesda, some of that time was actually in Germantown though. And a lot of small towns too...like Kernersville SC, and Union SC, where I'm now living. All told, I've moved way to many times but I ain't never leaving this log cabin in the woods, well cept for the burying thing.

Now...what was the question again?

Schucks.. I didn't know that the federal penal system was so spread out. Or was it Amway? I mean, Microsoft didn't really exist yet.

  16. Actually I agree that all the points made re Gaia and parallel to religious fervor are accurate.. But that does not mean that the science is wrong..

It is also true that horses and sheep are both 4 legged mammals that live in North America .. But so what. Lots of similarities but so what.

To quote an old sayings.. "even Paranoids have real enemies" :-)

The question about global warming being scientifically true or false is irrelevant. I did not raise that question.

To agree completely that the science is 100% accurate and that we must therefore obey the laws of environmentalists to honor the planet would miss the relevant question. The relevant question is, “For whom must you acknowledge the requirement to make personal sacrifices?â€

  17. Honor Gaia?

    gaia0336.jpg

:smt017 So-named global warming pretends to be a scientific conversation but looks more like an old religion with doctrines of personal sacrifice and self denial, evangelical calls for repentance from sin, and promises of salvation. But that is just an observation.. flame away..
