Dennis? Did you ever check on this? Dennis: Did you ever check to see if the Mexi-K burner will work with your charcoal basket? Mine's getting ready to give up the ghost... -Michael in Houston -

I was able to source a used burner from someone, so I'm pretty much all set in that department... But you said something that made me scratch my head: "old style"? Old style what? Burner? Basket? Confused in Houston. -

Once I've graduated from chiropractic school and have set up my practice I'll have a KK... For now I have a K.. Honestly, the K does a great job or turning out some great food. There aren't any problems in that regard whatsoever.. -M -

Did y'all get a chance to see if the basket would fit a #7? -
Does anyone have a defunct MexiK #7? I need a part...
Sominus replied to Sominus's topic in Komodo General
...BUMP.... Still looking for the part... Anyone? Please? -
David: I'm looking for the 'bottom front half' of a set of #7 bands that has the attachment for a set of side tables... I'm piecing together the parts I need for a fully working #7... Anything you are willing to part with would help... Thanx!

Question for the group (and for Dennis)
Sominus replied to Sominus's topic in KK Features & Accessories
I think so, but mine isn't a 2008 model. I still have a firebox/concrete ring. There are/were multiple versions of the lumpsaver... One was made with 'straight' sides out of 3/8" stainless. That's what I have (and it is wearing out). Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it wore out prematurely.. It just plain wore out and the metal is getting ready to crumble around the 'hot' areas. Later, there was a modification where they used 'sloped' sides... The latest/greatest is the "firebox lumpsaver all in one" thingie... I just want the one that sets into the firebox that I have, whether it has sloped or straight sides... OK, I'll see if my (you have an OTB right) OTB lump saver will fit properly in my #7. I'll try to get to it tonight but I have to work on my tractor...if not then tomorrow night. The OTB and the round may have the same lump saver...not sure. Get outta here Did you buy 25 K's? No, I didn't! I bought one... Just one! But people several people bought because of me... -

I actually used to be one of those folks who got calls back and emails returned promptly. Then one day my deodorant stopped working (I think that's what did it, anyway) and I became someone who was persona non grata. I complained about a service issue, and that was my "mistake". Now no calls will be answered or returned. I've now been banned from the forum, too... So I guess I've joined that club along with many of the other folks here. -

Re: Question for the group (and for Dennis) Are you talking about the lump holder? Yes... Kamado calls it the "lump saver"... Mine is pretty much dead (or will be soon)... -

Re: Good question.. You sure I can't convince you to do a trade? And if you would make some accessories for those of us who are stuck, we would be MOST grateful in the form of referrals and purchases when ours finally craps out. -
Will the metal charcoal basket in a KK fit in a MexiK #7? I need a new one but can't seem to get info on actually getting one from Kamado...

Does anyone out there have a defunct MexiK #7 that will accept side tables? I need to get the front half of the lower band that has the little 'shelf' that the side tables attach to. I can trade a front lower half of the band that does NOT have the shelf if that makes it do-able for you... Thanx... -Michael

The only problem is that at the moment I'm in med school and can't afford a pricey new grill. How, you may ask, so I have a "new, never fired POSK #7"? Well, its a replacement for an old one that cracked. The only thing is that I don't have all the pieces I was promised, and I've been waiting for months to try to get them. I finally got too tired of the hassle this afternoon after yet ANOTHER problem arose with the replacement parts.

Well, the 20 friends who have bought a POSK probably won't speak to me again if they first try to contact mexiK for service... All things considered, I was thinking 20 new friends would be the way to go.. Can't have people berating me for bad advice, dontcha know.. And hey... You don't get if you don't ask.. -M

Dennis: I will trade my BRAND NEW, NEVER BEEN FIRED #7 mexi-K (its a custom tile job -- not your ordinary K) for one of yours. Let's work a deal! I've probably sold 20 or so K's in the past 10 years based on people being in my back yard, I'm betting I can do the same again... I've put up with the pain and agony long enough.. I need something 'real'...

Let us not forget... There is also http://www.spicesetc.com I kind of split between Peney's and this place... -Michael

Here's a tip: Immediately after you've burned yourself, take a couple aspirin. Not tylenol or ibuprofen, use real aspirin. Aspirin is one of only a handful of substances that absorbs directly through the lining of the stomach. (Alcohol is another.. ) Other NSAIDS are absorbed in the small intestine. This means that the medicine gets into your blood stream in a very few minutes. The reason you would want to take aspirin to begin with is to stop a natural destructive process that takes place in the body in response to an injury. This process in many cases is a good thing and is the start of the healing process, but in this case actually it makes a (minor) burn a little worse. For those who care, aspirin stops the COX-1 and COX-2 reactions from taking place as a result of cell membrane rupture. As an added benefit it won't hurt as much or as long during the healing process. This also reduces the probability and severity of blistering. Obviously if you are a person who has aspirin sensitivity/allergy of some sort, do NOT do this. Also, remember that you don't give aspirin to young children as this can lead to Reye's syndrome. -Dr. M (well, I'm in med school... So its not "Doctor" yet...)

When I fire up my rig, usually I just put a couple chunks of wood on the coals and wait until 1) the coals are hot and 2) the smoke is 'clear' (not billowy and white).. Never used a smoke pot, but maybe someone can convince me that I should? -M

I have a Magafesa pressure cooker that I use for such things.. Takes a lot of time and guesswork out of things, and also helps me make some of the most heavenly ambrosias from humble ingredients such as you mentioned... It also takes just a few minutes as opposed to a more significant time frame in the use of other methods. -M
