  1. Thanks for al the good words. You know you're on the right track when SWMBO can't wait to get it fired up.
  2. Had a lot going on today, and I was slightly hampered by the absence of an owner's manual, so uncrating was a slow process. I actually thought I was only getting charcoal today, so when the beast rolled on to the truck lift gate, it was like Christmas. When the crate first appeared, I swear the olive & gold pebble finish looked like a velociraptor was inside. We need to find Taz a temporary home away from the (hard) water sprinklers, until his permanent place by the pool is finished. More to come.
  3. Mine arrived today, to my surprise. I was only expecting a pallet of char, but one pallet was nothing but beast. She is uncrated and awaiting additional labor this evening to finish setting her up. She is a beauty. Pics to come.
  4. Actually, Dennis suggested it is a nice option to have; I was in a "no need" frame of mind. I have the slide-in gas [LP] starter on my RJK7, and there were times when it was very handy. I also have a Looflighter and a Wagner heat gun for starting the charcoal. Where my KK will be located, I will have the option of NG as well. It's all about options. And as I learned long ago, if I think I may want a feature, I get it when it's available, not in the future when I might want it and discover to my regret. I may never actually use the option, but you never know. And in that situation, I try to cover my bases.

  6. Posted the first installment of my review, focused on the service side of the buying decision. More to come.
  7. Poochie, I love it! I used that line the other day in a completely different context, though I cannot help but think that The World's Most Interesting Man® would just about always cook on ceramic, no?
  8. I will definitely take pics from uncratingporn to foodporn!
  9. Thanks Wilbur. Will probably start out low and slow, with a very simple pork butt recipe I have been doing for years.
  10. Thanks Pooch. Yep, big Eastwood fan.
  11. I am indeed bryan. I do Chicago-style pizzas in my kitchen oven, though with the extra room in the 32BB I plan to try there. I have a Kettle Pizza [old style] on my Weber which made some pretty nice stuff as well. I have ordered the pizza stone for my 32.
  12. Thanks much all. The quality differential is clear, and I haven't even seen a KK in person yet! Still, I will always appreciate that K7 for instilling the passion for ceramic done cooking. Looking forward to a whole new experience.
  13. First post. Already own an RJK7. In fairness, I cannot call it a POS. I have had it over a decade, and it has never failed to perform as expected, and everything about it has been rock solid. I ordered it in a terra cotta (non-tiled) finish, because there were reports even then of tile QC problems, and I wasn't impressed with any of the tile finishes I saw. Picked it up when RJ was still operating out of West Sacramento. As a cooker, smoker, and griller, it has been great. But we're renovating a new house, and I wanted something special for it. Wasn't hard to find all the Kamado-drama all over the net (of which I had been blissfully unaware), and it also wasn't hard to figure out who had the best Kamado either. I already knew I wanted something bigger than the K7, and the 32BB was an easy choice. I sent an inquiry to the company and Dennis rang me up in less than an hour. We talked for a half hour, and he explained several things about the finishes and options. We spent time discussing sous vide as well, confirming my desire to start using it. Shared the information with my fiancée, and we both agreed on the olive & gold pebble finish. Took a while to settle on which olive & gold finish (Dennis explained the differences, and the photos accurately depicted those differences). So the wire went out today. 5750A is on her way. Also ordered almost all the accessories and a full CyberQ rig. Giving my K7 to a friend.
