  1. Thanks so much, MacKenzie. The pictures are gorgeous, and I really appreciate the cooking details. Things that might seem "Common Knowledge" to people who have been doing this for a while, are important details to those of us who are new.

After seeing those pictures, I'm anxious to try it myself. Yummy!

  2. Looks like I'll be joining the family tomorrow. I called and talked to Dennis today and he answered a few remaining questions that I had, what an excellent guy. Got the go ahead from the wife tonight, gonna call Dennis back tomorrow and place the order.

Great news, Newg4. Will be anxiously awaiting pictures.

  3. looks like you got the green one cleaned up for a future craigslist deal!!!

Here is the link for the motor from onegrill it is model 4pm05 model and luck would have it on sale

Consider a cover with the purchase as it will protect that gorgeous investment and you wont need to pay for shipping!!!

Thanks Bosco. I'll get the motor on order. Don't want the lack of a motor to delay that first chicken cook!

Will look at how much summer sun hits the KK. My patio is covered, and I have Phantom solar shades. I'm thinking that a cover might not be needed, but I do appreciate your suggestion.

Btw... Dennis mentioned your SS and Teak side shelves. I ordered a pair. Hope you like 'em.

  4. Congratulations on your purchase, twolken68. It's very unusual to find a KK for sale. You did good! Will be watching for pictures. In case you haven't noticed, everything requires pictures here.

I just purchased a KK today... She's a 23 like yours. Looking forward to reading about, and seeing, your posts.

  5. Amazing!!!!

Congrats on the purchase, you are going to love it.  If I am not mistaken that is the dark harvest gold pebble finish??  It looks spectacular!!!!

Great job on the accessories you look like you got everything.  The only other things that I would consider ordering is a cover, second charcoal basket for the splitter and a double bottom drip.

Now you need to order your roti motor from one grill.  They are always on sale so you should be able to get a good price

Yeppers... Those are the "Dark" pebbles. In talking to Dennis, I learned that in order to avoid patterns in the various shades of tiles, they sort them into dark, medium, and light colors. He obviously goes the "extra mile" to achieve a superior quality product!

Will probably order more accessories after my credit card stops smoking!

Will order the roti motor. Thanks. Being able to cook on the rotisserie was what led me to start looking at cookers other than the medium green one that's on my patio. Just replaced the gasket, and the hinge mechanism. Still need to replace the firebox. Obviously not on a par with the KK!

  6. What all of you told me about Dennis was absolutely correct... He was a pleasure to talk with, was patient in answering my questions, extremely knowledgable, and didn't pressure me at all.

Ordered a 23. Miss Jean picked the color, and since I'm not the greatest cook, I went with the pebbles... Lots of folks say they cook better, and I need all the assistance I can get! 😀

Thanks to all of you who answered my questions, and shared your wealth of experience.

  7. Welcome to the forum, Newg4. Like you, I'm working on a purchase decision. There's LOTS of great info on this forum... I found the "KK 411" section especially informative... And all the members are so very willing to answer questions. Do yourself a favor, and go see one. They are amazing cookers... Like no others I've seen. Best wishes.

  8. Which one are you looking at?

Most of the time, there's just the two of us, so I'm thinking that the 19" High-Cap Tall should suit my needs. Occasionally we entertain, and have a total of 6-people. Once a year, I cook for a fundraiser, but that's just a couple of pork butts. Seems like the 19" would handle that with ease. The only thing that I see limiting what I could cook is the 6" rotisserie basket. A turkey on the roti would be out of the question (I think). But even then, I suspect that a turkey cooked indirect on a KK would be much better than one cooked in the oven.

  9. Just returned home after seeing a KK for the very first time. My thanks to Chris from Dallas, for taking time from a busy Saturday, to show me his nearly-new 32" BB. Let me just say to all the others who may be "fence-sitting" like me... "The pictures don't do it justice!" Until you've seen the size of the spring for the lid, operated the latch, pushed it around, lifted the lid, and seen/lifted the grates, you can't appreciate what an exceptional piece of engineering this is! I'm glad that I have church and a concert this weekend, or Dennis would be answering questions on overtime!

  10. When I make ribs, I generally let the cook go for about 5 hours at 225-250ºF, then check the ribs with the bend test. If I need to use multiple grates, I don’t rotate the ribs at all. I’ve done a number of rib cooks where I needed two grates, and one where I used all three grates, and I never rotated the ribs. I couldn’t tell any difference in terms of doneness between them.

In order for all 3 levels to finish at the same time, they must be at virtually the same temperature! I'm presuming you are cooking indirect with the diffuser in place. That sorta blows my mind. It would follow that even with the smallest KK, one would have a lot of interchangeable cooking area. Maybe I don't need as large a KK as I was thinking. If I get a KK that is large enough to cook the largest thing I would ever cook, then I would have the capacity to cook 3 of 'em.
