  1. Re: Rack of short ribs...

Great looking meal! I've had great success with all my KK cooks, except for ribs. Same questions as Susan: temperature and cook time? Would enjoy hearing your suggestions.

    Thanks for your help.

  2. Re: Rocket

Congratulations and welcome to a great family of grill masters! I love the name your cute daughter named your KK. You'll love the results and be the envy of your friends.

    Slu, you're a champ!

  3. Re: Another KK in Frisco

You guessed correctly; dried off the blue dragon when you and Mrs. MCSmoke left. The cover from Johnny Boy keeps 99.9% of the moisture out; believe you'll be extremely happy with your choices.

    Welcome to the KK family!

  4. Re: Thanksgiving 2011

    Outstanding!!

I'll be smoking my first KK turkey for Christmas in a few weeks. Have you ever smoked a bird without brining it first? I've smoked a lot of wild turkeys (pre KK purchase) that I hunted and they were some of the best turkeys I've ever eaten; simply cleaned them and smoked them for about 3 hours around 350.

    Always enjoy your posts.

    Thanks,

    Dana

  5. Re: Waxed for the Winter

    Paswesley:

I loved your waxing comments. We have the same beautiful blue KK; I use soap and water after each smoke session to clean the top dome, as well as the barkeeper on the stainless. Works great. For a final application, I use the Meguiar spray wax, as it helps keep the tiles looking great.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  6. Re: Back to Pizza's Need Duration Advice

I cooked three pizzas last weekend at 650 on a full basket of Royal Oak lump charcoal. I was curious how long the KK would maintain that temperature, so I just decided to let it go and time it: got tired of watching the tru-temp needle never budge from 650. After 3 hours, called it a night and hit the sack. Dennis has engineered a fantastic grill. Hope this helps.

  7. Re: No lift gate

You can't beat those Lull rough terrain fork lifts; best in the business. You must be living right! Welcome to the KK family. I'll look forward to seeing your new toy fully assembled and smokin'...

  8. Re: Harvest Gold (aka Autumn Nebula) vs. Olive Green Gold vs

    bbqPete:

I have a new 23" in Vibrant Blue; have used extensively the past 3 weeks. After the initial first cook, I opened top/bottom dampers all the way up to see where the temp would climb to--hovered at 700 for about 3 hours. I was surprised with the amount of heat and smoke that was generated the tiles and grout experienced no ill effects whatsoever. There was a small (1") smoke ring left around the bottom of the top damper, but it came off very easy with some soap and water and the vibrant blue luster looks like new the day it was delivered. I think you'll be very happy with whichever color you decide on. Welcome to the KK family.

  9. Re: Smoke's Vibrant Blue

Thank you! We had friends and family over last night for the inaugural cook: 6 rib bone-in Wagyu prime rib roast, along with a roasted chicken. I was absolutely astonished how juicy and flavorful both were; everyone thinks I'm a chef-magician; one of the best outdoor grilling meals I've ever done. The KK is truly magical!

    Thanks again.
