You'll find the Tel-tru to be pretty reliable. I don't use anything except a good thermometer to check for temp and tenderness in the KK. I'm comfortable with checking the temp once in a while or popping the top for appearance. If a guru or temp and meat probe makes you comfortable then go for it. A thermometer is all you need and maybe a reliable wristwatch too.  20 degrees at start up is acceptable, temps stabilize once your heat soaked and then your temps hold at their settings
