Andrew
Two months ago today I placed my order. The truckers called today, and are coming between 9 and 5 tomorrow (in the morning they will give me a tighter window). As I will not have time for a low and slow for dinner, I will have to grill (with the cooker on our front pathway, as the truckers will not wheel it over the grass path to the patio, perhaps a bribe will help). Any rules of thumb between the measured dome temp on the included thermometer and the main grill temp? Low and slow Saturday, try to rally some help and move it out back on Sunday. Go Celtics (is this too partisan?)! Andrew
Conodo12
Is it here yet?!?!?! Post some pics of your unboxing and some of your new KK after it has been freed from it's crate!
Andrew
Is it here yet?!?!?! Post some pics of your unboxing and some of your new KK after it has been freed from it's crate! A KK came, but not mine. It was a matte black Kingsford model. Mine is a black matte/black glass plaid. Mine does not have a Kingsford logo on it. So it is back on the truck, and an email and phone call will go out to Dennis to track down my cooker and get it to me fast. I peaked into the crate and all I could tell through the plastic was that it was black, so I thought it was the right one. Oh well, back to waiting... Andrew PS I was too busy recrating it to take any pictures. The trucker was kind enough to wait.

Andrew
OHhh the Agony Sh*t happens. Dennis actually picked up his 310 number, at 11pm or 12 midnight (I am not sure if he is now 11 or 12 hours ahead). He just emailed me that the Kingsford sent to me was supposed to go to Atlanta, and hopes that mine was sent there. That is a lot closer to Boston than California, so that would be good news. The chicken I bought for the first cook (relatively low temp, and short enough cooking time for dinner) will go on the weber kettle. I am teaching my 18 year old, new HS grad, son to grill and barbecue, so it is not all bad (he is much more likely to have access to a weber than a KK for the next 5-10 years...) More anticipation... Paswesley
More Anticipation? You guys are so lucky! I am still in the trying to figure out how to pay for it stage. Of course, most of you probably didn't have to go through that stage. I really have my heart set on getting an Ultima II. I am about to go out and cook some steaks on my six year old Nexgrill (Costco model) five burner. I would so rather be imitating what I saw on the Youtube video on a shiny new Kooker! Oh well, "Where there's a will..." BTW: I want to introduce myself. I am Anton, and I go by the name Paswesley. I have been grilling and smoking for over thirty years. I love cooking outdoors and watching people eagerly eat what I put in front of them. I look forward to associating with everyone.
mguerra
what? Pas, probably MOST of us had to go through the "how am I going to pay for it stage". Or maybe the "am I WILLING to pay for it stage". Once you have it, none of that matters. Most likely it will last the rest of your life, and someone else's after you. So what is an Ultima II? Paswesley
Re Oops Mguerra: I am not sure if my post got through. I was having a middle aged moment, I guess. What I meant to say was a GEN 2.2 Ultimate 23" OTB in pebble tan. I am still learning the jargon. I was surprised at how easy it was to get my wife on board. I guess the quality of the cookers is so apparent that it sold itself. I wound up having to cook my steaks on the stove! I had run out of gas in each of my three tanks. Thanks to my custom rub, the rib eyes weren't ruined, but it was yet another reminder of why I want a cooker so much.

So what is an Ultima II?[/quote'] For me it was how to get it by my wife --- Luckily the timing worked out that I ordered it a couple of days from my birthday, so she did not object too much. Now she is pretty excited about it, but is loathe to admit it. Update: Dennis confirmed that my cooker is in Atlanta, undelivered (I had feared briquettes and lighter fluid). Hopefully the truckers will be able to get it here by the end of next week (my guess, as it is not very far).
mguerra
...the price of their toys Apparently, more than a few of us have had our wives balk at the expense of a KK. The key is to get them fed from the KK! True, they may be loathe to admit their acceptance of the KK, but eventually they come around. How many of you women KK'ers had to convince your husbands it is a worthy expense?
Loquitur
I've been tucking money away for the past few years to buy something really special and when I stumbled on the KK, I knew I had found it. So when I showed it to my husband online and told him I already had the money, he had nothing to complain about. Since I'm mostly only cooking for two, I was going to buy the 19.5 model but he encouraged me to get the larger one. I also had him choose the tile. We consider it a home improvement along the lines of a piece of electronic equipment, furniture, or rebuiding the steps to the porch, only this one will last a lifetime! mguerra
you bet You are dead on accurate in that home improvement take. That's exactly what it is.
T Rex
One of the arguments Mrs. T and I used was that since these were so well built, we would leave it to our new Son in Law and our daughter........ right? Well, what will really happen is that once they get settled down (just got married in Walla Walla May 29th) they will buy their own and it will be a newer model than the one we have! (He is an MD and the daughter is an RN) Well, so much for that theory, we would of bought it regardless....... but I will be peed off if the young guns end up with a 32"........ Men...we like to think we are usually the sum of all things, more being, well, more and therefore better,so of course your hubby wanted the larger size. No one here will think any less of either of you!
Andrew
Back to the original topic! I finally got a new shipper id/tracking number. I got on their website, and it was reported as being delivered yesterday! Their Atlanta number was closed, but I got through to LA and the web was wrong, it is still in Atlanta, and is expected to get to me on Monday. Anticipation all over again! Andrew
Lightening does strike twice Yesterday afternoon, for the 2nd time, I got the call I had been waiting for --- my cooker, ordered 4/17/10, was being delivered today. After waiting for the truck for 3 hours, it finally came. Lo and behold, it was another Matte Black Kingsford (probably the same one that was delivered last week). I am not happy. Conodo12
Any chance the right one will still show up on Monday?
mguerra
oh boy I might have been tempted to keep it! That is a seriously disappointing situation. Hopefully you have some sort of grill around so you can cook something, have an adult beverage, enjoy the weekend, and hope for the best next week! Andrew
Any chance the right one will still show up on Monday? I had that thought. I had had the impression that the reshipment from Atlanta was coming on a different carrier, but I am pretty sure (95%) that today's delivery was on the same carrier as last week's. So perhaps the redelivery of the Kingsford to Atlanta was the only thing screwed up, and I will still get mine on Monday. It is a hope anyway. Andrew
Any chance the right one will still show up on Monday? Hopes there are dashed. This KF KK was the one shipped from Atlanta this week. I do not know if it is the same one that was sent here a week ago. Dennis is still asleep. I hope he wakes before the trucking company closes for the weekend in 1 hour and 22 minutes I sent the rep at the trucking company the photo of my cooker that Dennis sent me, so hopefully next time I hear it is being delivered it will be the real thing. Assuming some random person somewhere is not enjoying a free KK, and I have to wait another 2.5 months. I made a big batch of rib rub while waiting for the delivery, luckily I had not bought the ribs yet.
