cruzmisl Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 Unfortunately not in my KK I visited a local pizzeria and they are one of the few places in the country that still uses coal for their oven. I took one bite and thought I went to heaven. I know that its tough to light but I wanted to buy a bag to give it a try. The chunks were probably 5"X5"X5". Quite large and uniform. Quote
bryan Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 Re: Anthracite coal=best pizza EVER! The chunks were probably 5"X5"X5". Quite large and uniform. One of these weed torches will light it. I know the one I bought today at Harbor freight will. It has a handle that lets you really crank up the heat. http://www.komodokamado.com/forum/viewt ... 5333#35333 Do you plan to break the coal or keep it as chunks? What temp do you expect? This really sounds interesting. Quote
cruzmisl Posted September 5, 2010 Author Report Posted September 5, 2010 I didn't buy a bag but I'm going back to the restaurant tomorrow. If they'll sell me a bag I'll give it a go-if anyone is interested. I bet I could light it using some lump that's fully lit then drop the anthracite on top...... Quote
bryan Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 With coal that size you should get some really big clinkers. Quote
Conodo12 Posted September 7, 2010 Report Posted September 7, 2010 You gents might want to take a look at his recent post regarding the use of anthracite coal in your KK's (Dennis weighs in as well)... http://www.komodokamado.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3779 Quote

Conodo12 Posted September 7, 2010 Report Posted September 7, 2010 Cook (Cruz) - My only concern was that you gents might be considering lighting up some coal in your KK's. I didn't know if you had seen the earlier post on this subject and I didn't want to see anyone inadvertently damage their KK without the benefit of reading Dennis' advice against it... Cool? Quote

jdbower Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 The Shadow would prefer you to cook with Blue Coal Anyone else think about these commercials whenever you see the term anthracite? Guess it's just me... Quote
TheNakedWhiz Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 I think that maybe Nero Wolfe carried Blue Coal ads? I remember hearing them on other shows besides the Shadow. But yes, remember to check with your blue coal dealer for the new automatic feeding mechanism. No need to go down into the basement in the middle of the night. Etc. Quote
