Dome Thermometer Spring

I like to keep my desired dome thermometer temperature at 12 O'clock (so I can just glance out the window and know I am at the correct cooking temperature), but the thermometer would turn sometimes. So I put a 1" long spring around the thermometer probe and a washer on the KK surface and reinstalled it in the KK. Now it will stay where I want it.

Re: Dome Thermometer Spring

Great looking idea. As a secondary benefit, I imagine this modification will allow for another inch of internal clearance up under the dome. That will allow for a little extra clearance when doing very large cooks or when cooking very large items. Every now and then, the tip of the True Tel probe touches an item once the lid is lowered. The extra inch of clearance gained by the probe extending farther out will come in handy. Thanks for the idea!

Yes, my thermometer has hit things on the top rack before I put on the spring. This gives it more clearance on top. The thermometer is in the KK plenty far enough for an accurate temperature reading.

Re: Dome Thermometer Spring

Please take a peek at the thermometer stem on the inside.. the last 1" (or about) has a small groove in it.

It is in this area that does all the work.

You want to leave a little distance between this area and the heat soaked hot face to get an accurate reading.
