Loquitur Posted January 31, 2014 Report Posted January 31, 2014 I want to calibrate my Tru tel thermometer but I can't get it out of my KK. The problem is with the clip. I can rotate it in its current position but I can't move it up or down. I haven't taken it out since I've had my KK so its been in there a few years. There was a lot of crud on it that I pulled off and I also sprayed some WD 40 up there but I still can't pull it off. Is there some special way I am supposed to squeeze the clip or something so that it will come off?
dstr8 Posted January 31, 2014 Report Posted January 31, 2014 Yes you need to compress/squeeze the spring clip while removing the stem (of the thermometer). You'll figure out how much to squeeze...as you're pulling on the thermometer. FWIW because I swap out the Tru-Tel with a thermocouple, for certain types of cooking, I don't use the spring clip anymore...
DennisLinkletter Posted February 1, 2014 Report Posted February 1, 2014 That clip is to hold the thermometer to the edge of a pot you do not need to use it in your KK.. It will never fall out. WHen you squeeze it correctly it will align the two holes that run thru the clip and easily slide right off.. Don't feel bad I've had people break their TelTru's trying to get that clip off
Loquitur Posted February 1, 2014 Author Report Posted February 1, 2014 Thanks, folks, my husband gave the clip a squeeze and pulled the Tru tell up and it came right out. Interestingly enough, I stuck it in a tea kettle of rapidly boiling water and it read 211. That is close enough for me. I also tested two thermapens and a thermoworks Chef Alarm and they also all came up as 211. I wanted to do this because I used my Stoker recently and noticed a dramatic difference between the grid temp and the Tru tel - much more than I am accustomed. But I need a little time to figure out how to test the Stoker probes since I won't have a computer connection in this kitchen.
