I was working in the Bay Area in the 1980’s when the 49er’s run started. It was amazing. Street signs and lights were draped with red and gold banners, 49 cent hotdogs and 49 cent beers during happy hour. Everything was pro and go Niners. I think it’s more of a baseball town now. 1

My friends and I took the BART over to downtown and joined in the celebration. I've never experienced anything else like it in my life! 2
