  1. You may want to poke around on U.S. environmental sites (or post something over on the SmokeRing). I have a great gov't publication on the engineering strengths of woods but nothing on burning / toxicity (EPA website maybe???). One of the guys over on the Smokering does environmental work... maybe he has some knowledge on the subject. Good luck!
  2. a) Fox news runs all sorts of garbage stories This CAN'T be done efficiently (it takes a ton of power to separate the water molecules). You might as well run your car off of a 50A electrical line. c) This invention has been around for a long time (Google "Brown's Gas") and crops up whenever energy prices increase.
  3. The rosewood toxins build up in your body. All of a sudden you'll just get a severe allergic reaction to the wood. Be careful and always use a quality respirator when WWing!
  4. Certain woods are toxic (as you know). http://www.woodturner.org/resources/toxicity.cfm has some good articles at the top of the page. Rosewood is extremely toxic... I would steer clear of that!
  5. porkchop, How hard is it to flip burgers near the back of the grill? It seems that the lid doesn't open enough to facilitate easy flipping?
  6. I have a quick disconnect on the side of my house for natural gas. What do I need to get to use the KK burner? Is a regulator required? Is there a specific regulator for natural gas? I already went to my local BBQ store and got a 12ft quick disconnect hose and a shut-off valve. I know that I'll also need to modify the burner (BBQ store will do that for me). I am assuming that I need to have them connect a hose to the burner, then add a regulator, and then connect the regulator to the quick disconnect hose? Does the regulator need to be near the grill or can it be on the other end of the 12ft hose? Thanks!
  7. It had to have been some sort of bet ($100 says you won't eat part XYZ...)
  8. To add to this question, how does one control the temperature when using gas only? Is the upper vent left wide open and temp is controlled via the gas knob or is there another method?
  9. I've seen some posts about the lower 'sear' grill. How hot can that get vs the main grill area? Is it easy to grill on? It seems kind of awkward to reach down into the grill to flip the meat. Can you sear just as easily on the main grill?
  10. samantha, My GF has been living with me for over a year and is nearing 'fiance' status (so we need to talk about $2k purchases). Porkchop, Don't worry, I'm still in charge of BBQing. She just wants to cook the occaisional hot dog or hamburger if I'm out of town. Yes, my main point is that there is very little information on the web site (vs the forum). I was able to get most of my questions answered by visiting 5-6 different sticky links on the forum (but this isn't the best method for spreading information). I had to link over to that 'other' K website to show her why a Kamado cooker is a good idea (in terms of cooking).
  11. Well, I am pretty much sold on the KK. However, I have to convince my girlfriend that this cooker is the best option. Unfortunately all the information is scattered throughout the forums. It would be nice if: - There was a link describing the benefits of KK cooking (to answer the question of why are we getting a heavy refractory oven vs. a $350 Weber gas grill?). I think this is fairly important... a lot of people who wander onto the site may not know the benefits of kamado-based cooking. - There was a single link off the main page showing ALL the tile colors and ALL the volcanic finish colors - Some form of cooking guide would be helpful (vents, what do they do, using gas burner with vents, etc.). My GF is worried that she will not know how to operate the KK (for simple grilling). Yes, I know that you can just fire up the gas burner and open the top and away you go... - The 'FAQ' link off the main page sends you to the generic forum faq (why can't I log in, etc.) instead of KK Q&A. I realize that Dennis is super-busy but I think these issues are important to KK overall. Hopefully I can convince her so I can post in the happy campers forum

    Natural Gas?

Sounds great! So I just order the normal gas jet and have the local propane store retrofit me? I'm going to need a longer gas line w. the quick disconnect anyway.

    Natural Gas?

Dennis, are you investigating a natural gas burner hookup for the KK? It would be nice to attach the KK to a quick disconnect on the side of my house (instead of dealing with propane tanks, etc.).
  14. I've been researching a KK purchase and have a question for the forum. Where does the grease / drippings go when you grill and BBQ? I would think that there might be flare-ups when direct grilling (coals right under the meat)? Can someone comment on this? Thanks!
