  1. 400 Degrees? I guess that the New Low Airflow Gas draft door could improve gas performance by allowing the main door to be all the way shut (centering the burner) while still allowing sufficient air for combustion. Any tests, Dennis? Doug
  2. 400 Degrees? Ok, it sounds like the answer to my long standing question is 400. So the KK operating on gas alone maxes out at 400 degrees Fahrenheit; unless Tcoliver’s modification affected the burner efficiency? How about you other guys with stock burners? Does 400 degrees match what you get on gas alone? Doug
  3. Hi all, I'm still waiting for someone to run their KK using gas only at max and then post what the high temperature is using gas alone. I’m mostly just curious because I’m a hard core charcoal guy. But there are times when I want to bake something in a conventional manner without adding charcoal flavor and without heating the kitchen with the oven. We live in hot Sacramento, and starting the oven during summer overloads the air conditioner, heats the house, and sucks money. A gas KK outside could be the solution, and it could be a good selling point with my wife. So how about it? Will somebody run their KK with the gas at max and post the high temperature achieved? Doug
  4. Since your KK will be volcanic black, how about Ancalagon? Ancalagon the Black was the most powerful dragon of Tolkein lore, so much more powerful than Smaug that he might have been able to melt the one ring in his prime. Doug
  5. Re: Condensation in the temp gage I would use a much lower temperature. Only the probe can take that much heat, not the dial face. Put it in the oven at the lowest setting or just leave it in the sun. Doug
  6. I understand your desire for a smaller version from the standpoint of $$$. But other than that, I see no advantage to the 18" and smaller grills. Even if you are cooking for one, the limited grill space makes it difficult to cook a full meal including veggies, etc. Setting up different zones for direct and indirect cooking is also virtually impossible on a small grill. If transportation is a problem, read the posts on how to take the KK apart to move it in pieces. If anything, I would like to see a larger KK, but 22 inches is enough and I couldn't afford anything larger anyway. Doug
  7. I went with my wife and two children to visit my parents, my brother, and his children. I saw the ancient family Kamado pot in the backyard and was reminded of the meals cooked on it in my youth. This Kamado pot goes WAY back to at least the early 70s, if not the 60s. I could still read the label which read “Kamado Cooker, Made in Japanâ€
  8. Gas Temperature? I noticed that the K forum implied that the gas temperature maxed out around 400 degrees. Is it the same for the KK? Not that it matters really, as I would still supplement with charcoal, but that would not be hot enough to burn the grill clean. I sounds like gas would still be a good way to save money by preheating the ceramic before dumping in the charcoal. What is the max temperature that you get from gas alone? Doug
  9. Happy Birthday! Sounds like both Dennis and Gerard are my junior by a year. Young Pups! Doug
  10. Never used the rotisserie with a ceramic, but I use it with my weber all the time. FAR superior results! The ONLY way to cook a whole chicken! I think that even with the perfectly even heat of the ceramic, the rotisserie would still improve the results because of the basting. Doug
  11. So... are the tiles purely cosmetic? Or does that added weight (63 pounds) and mass actually help hold in the heat? I can't decide if I like the volcanic textured look or the tiled look. If the tiles are purely cosmetic, I might just decide on the textured. It looks like it would be more durable, no worries with tile loss, and it is quite handsome to boot! But then if the tiles actually have a functional use... Ahhh! Can't make up my mind! Any comments on the durability of the tile versus the textured? Differences in cooking? Doug
