  1. hey Wilbur - thanks! I've got to say that to keep myself entertained whilst my KK is on the water, I have been going through older posts on this forum and your posts are consistently amongst the most entertaining. I'm really looking forward to trying to match some of the results you've got - Peking duck is a (minor) obsession of mine, so your adventures in that direction have given me great encouragement.
  2. I ordered from Brian at OneGrill yesterday - he said to me that if you need to reverse the direction, it is a matter of 3 simple screws... and also I quote him below: "On a side note. I have had some people tell me they resolved the directional issue all together by placing a hole in the bung that accepts the drive rods in the baskets and running a screw through it. They have told me this works well and direction does not matter anymore and that it made the basket feel even more rigid when assembled. Another person has told me they simply placed a tack weld on the bung and rod to ensure it never comes loose and unthreads."
  3. Well, I can't speak to which tile produces the best results on the 32" - I only ordered a 23"... Seriously though, you guys really are such good people. The subject of the forum came up when I was having my intro chat w Dennis to discuss the order, and I am 100% convinced that it was the friendly and knowledgeable people on this forum that pushed me over the edge and made me pull the trigger on the order. I'm really looking forward to getting to know you all better.
  4. @EGGARY - well, everybody knows that the Dark Autumn Nebula produces the best food, right? Right?
  5. @CeramicChef thanks! the irony is that she used to be a chef, but all classical French stuff. So bbq was never a thing, but she decided about six months ago that this was what she wanted, so my 4kg butt is rubbed and ready to go. I'll let her do a taste test between this one and the first one in the KK. I think the only flaw in the KK process is that @DennisLinkletter hasn't figured out a way to teleport them instantaneously from Bali... I mean, how difficult can it be to break the laws of physics?
  6. The hinge! Don't get me started. I think the lid of my BGE edges backwards about 3mm a year, so adjusting the bands every springtime - yawn. I was just out cleaning it out for a long cook tomorrow - parents coming down, and my mother (in her 70s) has never had pulled pork, so a pork butt is going on - and every single time I do anything I'm looking forward even more to the arrival of my KK.
  7. yeah - for 6 years now. A great gateway into it, but it was really about two months ago when the sheer frustrations of some of the design flaws with the Egg began to get me back thinking of the KK again. That gasket. The draft door not being flush with the bottom of the unit - so ash emptying a pain. The second-class fittings starting to show their age. attaching the BBQ Guru to the draft door. Above all, the sheer difficulty of getting clean smoke at anything under 275 - because of the gaps between the the fire box and the body, the fire wasn't nearly as efficient, so dirty smoke persisted. And what's the solution to all of these issues, and more? the KK. Once the tipping point was reached, no going back. Don't get me wrong. I fully understand why the BGE is a great option for many people. But it isn't the KK. And it's the little things that will make all the difference to me. My BGE already has a home identified - a friend of mine who wants to dip his toes into the game is going to take it (he's only got a gasser right now...) so I'm excited to see what he does with it.
  8. I'm not sure time could run any more slowly than it already is! I am planning a few valedictory cooks on my Egg and trying to decide the first cook on the KK. Exciting time.
  9. what a beautiful photo!
  10. So, with apologies for the terrible title of the thread, and thanks to all for their kind advice on which accessories to buy - I am so very happy to announce that my new KK is now en route from Indonesia to sunny London* Some photos below. The SS side tables in particular look stellar. * for those of you unacquainted with London it is rarely, if ever, sunny.
  11. yep, 23" - went for the dark Dark Autumn Nebula (not unlike the one on the website). Tile sample below... have gone for pretty much all the options recommended by you kind people and Dennis. Splitter, Roti, cover, ss side tables. I already have a Guru from my BGE days. The only fly in the ointment seems to be finding the right motor for the roti in the UK, as the recommended OneGrill is not here in the UK. I'll get a friend to send it over in due course, I think.
  12. Guys - thank you all very much for your input - your kindness and expertise is much appreciated. Dennis and I had a chat this morning, and the order has been placed... I am most excited to join you all as party of the KK-owning group!
  13. Thanks everybody - that's incredibly helpful. To be quite honest, the double bottom drip pan hadn't even entered my thoughts - given that I rarely, if ever, make gravies or sauces with bbq. What exactly are you guys using it for?
  14. hello all - I am on the verge of pulling the trigger on an order for a 23" - Dennis has of course been enormously helpful and encouraging. Question for all you old hands: my accessory list is the 6" rotisserie, a cover, and the charcoal basket splitter. Any other must haves in your opinions? Thanks in advance - very much looking forward to getting to know you all. Ed
