  1. Anybody else notice that the KK Forum seems to be slowing down a bit? Some posts that I select just hang there with an empty screen and "Transferring data from www.komododamado.com" in my progress window. Ultimately the progress window reads "Done" and there is nothing there. Here's a post that does it regularly for me:

Please let the Mods know if you are experiencing slow downs - Thanks!

  2. Thanks for the link Firemonkey!

We're getting a pretty good list of events here with most covering the East coast and Middle U.S. I saw some links for the West coast. Anybody care to add anymore?

Soon, we will just have to let each other know which events we are going to be at and we can begin to meet up in person - very cool forum so I am sure I would enjoy meeting all of you!

    :D:D

  3. No worries Sanny - I have tough skin. Must come from the military background! :D

Truth is, I should have scoped out the MABA site a little closer and I could have posted both links in one post...

However, if anyone has any other BBQ Shows or Competitions they'd like to share with us, that would be great! I travel all over our great nation and would like to visit some premier BBQ events.

    Thanks!

  4. Hi All,

I travel quite a bit and find myself away on some weekends. Can't be on the grill but that doesn't mean that I can't enjoy some great Q! I have been to a few BBQ Shows and Competitions and enjoy them all. I thought I would attempt to start a thread where we can list the shows coming up for the 2008 season. Here is one that will be in my (general) area from April 11-12th.

Got any shows coming up in your area? Please share and Thank You!

  5. Hi All,

How are you? I've traded posts with some of you in the forum but thought I would introduce myself here. I'm a slow decision maker, but a Komodo will find a home here in Central PA soon enough! lol Tried to buy a used one from Dan, but his family vetoed his decision to sell! (Mods - feel free to remove that post anytime!)

So, Dennis, (or any Komodo owners) anyone ever try getting in touch with the Food Network to show off your Komodo? Here's just one show that might be interested:

    http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/show_bq

An excerpt from the show's description: "Join him as he meets colorful characters, visits undiscovered BBQ joints and tries every grilling gadget imaginable."

Now someone here must have a set-up that they would like to see on TV and it will feature you (as a colorful character) and your Komodo! How cool is that?!?

    :eek::eek::eek:

  6. Dennis - will the metal for the lip be exposed on the new 19.5 OTB? If so, is it being milled to a tolerance that would negate the need for a seal?

Also, I see your challenge in regards to the legs. You want them short and stocky so that they are strong, but wide enough at the base as to avoid tipping the cooker over. Would it make sense to make the bottom of the cooker a little fatter than what was shown in your "first stage" pics? If nothing else, you could fit more lump in the bottom for longer cooks! And you get a wider stance at the base without having skinny legs. Thoughts?

    Thanks for sharing!

  7. John,

Here's a site where you can see the pressure fryers from Fagor and Rapid Chef:

    http://www.pro-selections.com/category.cfm/198/

Here is where you can see the pressure fryer from Magefesa:

    http://www.accuproinc.com/magefesa.htm

By the looks of the bar across he top of each of these cookers, any one of the three will pressure fry. However, please check with each manufacturer to verify. Enjoy!

Bet we all can't wait 'til this spring to start tasting the slow cooked goodness of what this forum is all about! The 20th of Spring is right around the corner!!

  8. So let's be careful about the review on Miss Vickies website. It was discussing standard pressure cookers. Specifically, the Magefesa-Super Rapida was the unit that was rated best. It is NOT a pressure fryer. However, Magefesa does make a pressure fryer along with Fagor and Rapid Chef. Again, I have no allegiance to any of the manufacturers, I am sure they are all great. My only suggestion is to buy a current model, never used, that states by the manufacturer that it is made to pressure fry. Also, if you can get a new one for $109.00 delivered, buy it. My sense is, it is not a pressure fryer. ;-)

One last word - folks, I would hate to see anyone get hurt pressure frying by not using the right equipment. PLEASE be careful and buy the right gear for the job! :-)

  9. J - please do be careful about which pressure cooker model you choose. Only one from Fagor is capable of pressure frying. The unit is called a "pressure magic". You know you have the right one when you see a cooker with a heavy bar across the lid. I tried to post a link to a pic. but no luck 'cause I am a newbie! lol

Just Google - fagor pressure magic and you are on your way!

  10. OK, I have been lurking in the shadows here for sometime but because I don't have a ceramic cooker (yet) I have refrained from joining in. Dennis and I have traded emails and it is only a matter of time...

On to pressure cookers - J, (and all), if you really want to have some fun, purchase a "pressure magic" pressure cooker from Fagor. Pricey, yes. But it is one of the only cookers available that will allow you to pressure FRY. You want to try and duplicate the Kernel's recipe? Well this is the only cooker that you can try it in. I bought one at the Texas State Fair back in the early 90's and have been making the best hot wings since! Also makes tender flaky beer battered fish... my kids will actually eat it! By the by, I have seen that "fish" is a four-letter word around here so I won't use it often! :D
