Hello WayUpNorth, Yes, that is indeed Trex decking on our deck. Also, I have had no problems wheeling the KK around the deck. In fact, we are very pleased and impressed with how easy the KK rolls. I can roll it myself---no problems. The wheels appear to about 2.5" diameter, and I believe they are HD Polyethylene wheels. The KK rolls right over the joints on our deck, and we also have had no problems with straining the planks. In fact, we were quite concerned about putting the KK up on the deck because of weight and the flex of deck material, but it's just perfect! We are also very happy with our color choice.

Yeah, I remember seeing that in their catalog, and I started laughing out loud! That is ludicrous, but I guess someone out there is buying them.

Yes, thanks Breech. I've personally seen a similar scenario myself, but it was called something different--Pronto, if I remember right. Yeah, anytime certain information is requested--like passwords--it makes total sense to stay away. Especially lately, these different programs and wares are getting more and more creative and tricky.

Wow, a smoking gun!

Thanks All! We are pressure washing our deck right now, and then I'm going to fire her up! First cook---brisket. Pics'll be there when it happens. Johnnyboy, I'll send you a PM. I am interested in Jammies! Thanks, Naldo

Hello All, We received our KK on Wednesday---Yay! I was most impressed with how well crated it was, and we also had to get it onto our deck, which is only two steps up off the ground on the open side of our house, so I think I may have a unique story on that one. First, we uncrated it by unscrewing the bolts at the base and lifting the whole crate box right over the top of the kooker and off the pallet. I found this to be a much quicker and efficient way to do it (I found this tip on the site a while back), and all that was left was the KK strapped to it's pallet. Then, for two days straight, I could not get anyone to help us get it onto the deck, so our neighbor drove down his tractor and scooped it up in the tractor bucket and launched it onto the deck for us, and from there we unstrapped it off the pallet and rolled it right into it's permanent resting place. (I wish I had pics of that!) Thanks to everyone for the nice welcomes and great input in all sections of the forum all the time. We look forward to sharing cooking pics ASAP! Here's a pic of our baby's new home.

KOmodo Extruded CoCoNut shipped.. eta July 12th!
Naldo replied to DennisLinkletter's topic in Extruded Coconut Charcoal
Looks and sounds great, Dennis! I'm in--we'll wait to hear about pricing and availablility---thanks! -
Hello GeoQue, So far, I can say with confidence in all of the KK owners on this forum that I agree and relate to all the replies that have been posted in reference to your question so far. Ten years ago, I bought a K5, and, to this day it is still working well. At that time (back in 1998), the K folks seemed to be handling their business--at least as it related to my purchase. They were responsive--answering the phone all day long, and also the K5 I received I was very happy with. It still works today and, with the exception of some rust around the lower draft door, it has held it's own (it shouldn't be rusting at all, but there-in lies another story about quality). Fast forward to today... Last May (in 2007), I contacted the K folks and placed an order for a K7. A month later it shipped, but it showed up damaged, and upon quick inspection, I noticed it was shoddily put together, and also the tiles and cement were all crumbly. Thank goodness it was damaged, as I rejected it and the K folks filed a claim and ended up getting paid on it anyway through the freight carrier insurance. However, since that time, I waited through February of this year and still no replacement on my original order and also countless, countless calls, messages left, emails sent to multiple people and email addresses, etc, etc, etc. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE! Finally, upon doing further research I discovered that I was not an isolated incident, and that countless people were having the same contact issues. While doing all this research online, I found KK and Dennis, and I've never looked back! I have not even received my brand new KK yet, and I'm already a happy camper (it's in transit right now)! Dennis has been very responsive, and, as has been posted in some of the other replies, without even seeing a KK in "real life" yet, all I needed to do was simply review all the information on this forum, look at pics, and you can immediately see the difference in quality. So, that all said, if price is an issue for you (agreed it's a big chunk of money--although Dennis's packages include everything and K pricing adds up after all accessories are added in), you should check out Dennis's Lost inventory sale: http://www.komodokamado.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2381 There's some deals in there that will actually SAVE you money over the K package---a NO BRAINER! -Ron

Well, Ben, that would be cool--to be cooking in about a week, I mean! Yeah, the whole getting her set-up thing is not something I'm looking forward to, but I remember moving my old K and it was not so terrible. As you long as you have enough people and the right tools to help out (2x4s to loop through the provided legs for lifting), it should go okay. The guys don't need to be too strong, just careful and enough of them. If I were you, I might shoot for one more friend--totaling 4 people including you. That should guarantee no errors or problems. Hopefully you've seen the threads in the KK 411 section that talk about uncrating, moving, etc. As far as me, when I spoke to Dennis about a week or so ago, he wasn't sure I'd get it by the 4th, but we're trying. By the way, did he send you a waybill number (tracking number) for the KK? How is that handled, do you know? Thanks, Ron

Thanks All! Hi there Everyone, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the great welcome and also for all the great additional information that came out of a thread that was meant to just be an introduction--a real testament to this forum, which is all about great information about cooking and the KK, etc. We've been away for a few days, but we just got back. Our KK should be here sometime in the first week of July--pics to follow. Anyway, thanks again everyone. See you elsewhere in the forum! --Ron

Hi BH, As you might recall, I have not received my KK yet either, but it should be here by the first week of July or so. As far as lump goes, if you have a Walmart nearby, you should probably go with that. They carry the Royal Oak brand, and it is rated and reviewed fairly well on Naked Whiz's site, as well as elsewhere. The problem with mail order or online ordering are the shipping costs-=--they'll just kill your overall costs. -Ron

Traeger - Do You Really Want a Ceramic Cooker?
Naldo replied to Krusty K's topic in Relevant Product Reviews
No Searing--No High Temps? If I remember correctly, my frend had a Traeger--though I don't know what model. You're right--with a digital unit and by the way the Traeger works, it requires the least amount of effort. However, it also ages and I'm not sure it's something that would last a "lifetime"--as opposed to a KK, for example. The other thing, and more important I think, is the fact that is pretty much just a smoker and not a fully functional grill--such as a KK. As far as I know, and I could be wrong--about the highest temp you can get is about 400-450 F. This would mean another actual BBQ next to the smoker, unless that temperature works for you. Personally, I love smoking foods, as well as quick-grilling dinners, and I've seen pellet and owned a ceramic cooker for years, and I've never even considered the pellet option. I think it's a personal choice really--it depends what you are looking for out of the cooker. For me it's about the interaction, the great range of things you can do with it, and, of course, the great fascination people have when they see a ceramic cooker in action---plus it's REALLY COOL! -
Wow, those look just awesome, Bob! In the past year or so, ribeyes have become one of my favorite cuts of meat. They just seem to have the best combination of flavor and tenderness. Also, at least here locally, we have some butchers that tend to sell them at what I would consider better prices for that cut. Way back, I used to live in the WPB area north of LW. I have some family down there, so when I'm back down that way, I'll let you know and maybe we can connect. We can shop talk about our KKs! Beautiful-looking steaks!

Hi Ben, Actually, now I remember reading your thread (the one right below mine). Sorry---I've been reading so much on thius forum and trying to keep up with all the members and so on. I remember seeing the lost inventory post well after I ordered and, frankly, my budget would have been better off perhaps with one of those KKs from that sale, but I'm sure we will both be very happy! I told Dennis that once I have the KK set up in my neighborhood, that there's a good chance many of my neighbors and friends may be contacting him about some of those (if there are any left by that time). I guess yours has not quite showed up yet? It must be VERY close, right? -Ron

More great info on the pizza stone---thanks Fetzervalve. I always thought a pizza stone and a heat deflector were really two different things. In fact, I actually used a drip pan as a heat deflector on my old K--I guess it does the trick. Thanks for letting me know about the Fibrament model you got--I'm sure that was less expensive that way, right?

Re: SEX CHANGE Blue, Green, Purple--all mixed together?! What does that look like? Is there actually a pic of that somewhere? I would love to see that! As you know, Jeff, we also went with the Glass Black. It's a great choice---but, man, I would love to see what "Moses" would look like...
-
Hey, thanks Ben. Looking forward to seeing your new KK. BTW, what did you order? Hey Jeff, you may be in luck as far as making that boat, as we just received our 2nd half request from Dennis today, and we haven't even sent it quite yet. I remember him telling me he does not charge the 2nd half until it hits the water, so you really should be on the container--I hope I have not overspoken?

Happy Birthday Dennis! -Ron & Rena

Wow, great information. Thanks Jeff--MUCH appreciated. I'll check out that site and let you know what I end up with. I do see the unevenness on the Primo. I'm trying to figure out what would cause that--as I would assume your fire is in the center of the unit, no? At any rate, yes, it's going to be a fantastic summer with lots of cooks, recipes, and pics, and, of course, all around great times with friends and lots KKQ! I guess I'll see you in the other sections as we both get closer to our KKs. Thanks again!
-
Hi DavidS, Hey, thanks also for the nice welcome. I just went and loked at all your posts. I see you are using your old K as a table next to your KK--that's sad and funny all at the same time!

Pizza Stone? Hi ChefJeff, Thanks for the kind words and input. I'm wondering if you purchased a pizza stone in the past? One thing I'll be looking for right away is good pizza stone that is either square or circular, so we can do bread and pizzas. Dennis had told me that he would not be sending one with my KK---something to do with the material not releasing properly--if I remember correctly. As far as the rotisserie--I agree, and I will definitely be ordering that from EZQue ASAP, but my KK will still be en route trhrough June, and I'm hoping to have it by 4th of July weekend, but based on Dennis's feedback to me it will be sopmetime the week after that probably, so I have some time to get some additional accessories.

Thanks for all the replies so far! Trish, I must comment on your KK. I remember seeing it in the KK phonto section. That is one beautiful machine. Jason, thanks also for the welcome. It seems you are most helpful admin-ing the site, and, if I remember right, you too have a Glass Black beauty. As far as pics--you bet--I can't wait to share and post, and I always wait with anticipation at all the other great cooking photos and recipes from everyone else as well. Bob, I've obviously seen many of your posts since you just recently received your KK, and I know it too is the same color (or shade). Thnkas for the link to your thread on delivery. I do have to get the Kooker up to two steps onto our deck, but that should not be difficult. Actually, now that I think about it, I'd love to find out from Dennis what my KK # is--and also is that owner number OR KK number (some people have multiple KKs).

Hi Everyone, This is Ron & Rena from Port Angeles, WA. We are oh-so-close to receiving our new baby KOmodo Gen II in Glass Black with charcoal grout. We are so excited I can't even put it into words (bit I'll try)!... Dennis called earlier this week and sent us a pic of our first-born and then told us that it has hit the water--yay! I owned a K5 (from that OTHER company) for 10 years when living with someone else, and it actually was one of the best purchases I've ever made. However, I attempted another purchase from them last year around June '07, and it was one of--if not THE--single worst experiences of my life. That whole story is a topic for another post OR perhaps for that other forum out there that details those bad experience with the "other guys". Other than a beautiful pic from DennisLink showing us our new baby boy (I say "boy" because we went with the gas option--he he), we have not received our baby yet, but I felt it was time to introduce myself (and my lady) to the forum here. I've been following the posts since I placed my order, and I want to say thanks to everyone that posts, as it has been very educational, entertaining, and valuable information, as I'm sure it will continue to be. We obviously have not even received the cooker yet, and I already know it's going to be just awesome. We are truly excited and we look forward to the fun that will go along with owning the best cooker out there. I found that one of the best things about the cooker is how much of a conversation piece it is. When you combine the incredible food with the way it functions--people's jaws just drop! Anyway, we look forward to receiving our baby, and as soon as we do, I will post KOmodo pics and, of course, as soon as I can, cooking pics. Thanks, Ron & Rena Port Angeles, WA
