  1. I understand. I am not picturesque by a long shot!! Like you, I don't have my picture taken (unless I have to for passport). I'd make an exception for this, but I do not intend to be a lone wolf.
  2. As probably most people here, I visit other forums. One I found interesting was a virtual weber bullet. They have a page where owners are pictured with their WSM(s). Is there any reason why owners of the best ceramic grills in the world do not have something similar? What are the pros and cons?
  3. Located at Anse Aux Pins. Just ask anyone where the American Larry lives.
  4. Gotta wait until April now. However it will be done first week of April. It just costs so much to get things here and DHL is not cheap. I don't want to over extend myself. In the meanwhile, I am sucking up everything I can off the forum about the Digi-Q and the EZQue rotisserie. Decided to order everything at once to save on shipping charges. The hard part is holding off everyone that wants to taste the goods that can be Q'd. They can just drool and a wait until I am ready.
  5. Did not bother with the sea water. One of the stores here made a liar out of me two days after my post and imported non-iodized fine table salt. I thought I would keep quiet about it. But since you asked........
  6. There is a wood here in the Seychelles the call Sed (nothing to do with Unix). Anyway the tree looks like a type of fir tree. It is used here exclusively for making lump coal. I could not get an odor from the pine like leaves. The roots are very shallow and during high winds, can easily be blown over. Normally I see them in a sandy soil. Anyway I tried some dried for smoking and it was not bad at all. I have to get in touch with a botanist here and find out what the generic name is. I said I would not post a picture with my first cook. It was not a good cook. My third cook was good though. I am flying blind still but my thermometer should arrive soon. How do you get a Digi-Q for the KK? The KK is not listed on the site and they have not replied to my query.
  7. Like most things non-iodized salt is not available here. Probably because of humidity. I am going to throw something out here and get opinions. If I took sea water and boiled it to kill bacteria, could it be used for brine? Okay it may be stupid but I don't claim to be on the level of Einstein.
  8. I beg to differ with that. Cow, pig, chicken etc. are names. I eat em anyway.
  9. Gotta pass on that swap Jackie. Been here too long to go back and I love being so near the (clean) ocean. You can send the pets though.
  10. No low and slows for now. Actually, I'm stuck. Something as simple as a thermometer for cooking you will not find here. A lot of things I used to take for granted, I realize are a luxury when your on a little island like this. Most items are imported and are inflated in price. I am going to fire her up anyway and wing it. And no, I am not going to post anything because I am sure it will be disastrous. I really don't care though as I want to fire her up. I could use some machine screws right not for something, but only wood screws are available. She is set in a temporary place for now, but I hope to have her in a more elegant setting later in the year.
  11. After a long trip with the Seychelles Navy rubber ducky (Thanks JDBower!!), my KK has arrived. A couple of minor problems that will get fixed. Noticed my thermometer is not there. I'm sure some sea going Scalywag appropriated it for his own prosperity, after seeing such a beautiful piece of art on the high seas. His karma is sure to be his Butt on a grill for pulling!
  12. The difference here is at the loading dock only. Once customs loads the item onto a vehicle, their responsibility ends. Your on your own after that. If a carrier like DHL etc. is in charge, of course it is different. But who can afford that! Here if you employ a clearing agent, good luck trying to get recovery charges. Foreign currency here is on par with chicken teeth. I am considered the importer so when it leaves the customs dock, I am responsible. That is also including the type vehicle I use to have item removed. Just one of the little 'hell bots' lurking around.
  13. I am sure I will have to have a truck with a crane to get the KK off. Since the back of the trucks are so high and there is only (get this) one truck with a tail lift here out of hundreds and he will charge way too much because of his unique position. There are no forklifts even remotely close. I guess the biggest thing I dread is the sales tax and other dings I am going to have to pay. They have a fine tuned system of raking everyone over the coals here. I have already estimated an equivalent of $800+. Sometimes what may seem to be paradise has little hidden hell bots waiting to get ya.
  14. Geez, talking about putting Habanero sauce on the wound! Have pity on one who can only look at pictures and taste air food.
  15. Just had my Johnnyboy cover delivered. It only needs my KK to get here so it has a home. Calls for a good ol' Charlie Brown AAAARRRGH!
  16. I'm an newbie and feel I am part of a very elite group of people. To ALL you Q folks, Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. My KK has not arrived yet but I expect the port to call me any day and tell me the IRON STORK has delivered.
  17. Thanks for that chart JD. I see a few I can try. However, if it is not listed, I will check with the locals and see what they say.
  18. Unfortunately, Lychees and Rambutan do not grow here as Durian also. I will check out the Guava as there is plenty of that here. We have a tropical golden apple which is not anything like a regular apple, but sweet when ripe. There are a few other fruit trees, but no information about using them in a Q. It is really frustrating, as I know Q-baby is on the water on the way for delivery and I want a really special first cook.
  19. Since I am living in the tropics, I do not have access to common wood we normally have in the states. I recently cut a few large branches of a mango tree and started drying them to use for future smoking wood. I then found out on the internet, mango wood is toxic. I would have never thought that of a fruit wood, especially since mangoes are so sweet. I then wondered about other fruit woods except coconut which I know is not toxic. However I Googled and cannot find any reference to that or any other tropical wood (other than mango) that is toxic. Anyone know where I can get a reference?
  20. Thank you all. I have an abundance of Astroshield polish. I want to use it maybe once a year or two on my KK. Since it will be covered, anymore than that will be excessive. It is not abrasive as most polishes, but I want to be cautious about applying anything to the KK.
  21. Does anyone polish their KKs? Is there any harm in doing so?
  22. Would you believe they don't sell anything but lump charcoal here? Briquets are to expensive to import.
  23. I have been reading post from all the ceramic producers. I settled on this site and will have a Komodo here between Nov. and Dec.
