  1. Re: Cooking at High Altitude with Big Green Egg It is natural for things to take longer for items to cook at higher then sea level. It has to do with atmospheric pressure. It is a phenomenom that is a matter of physics. At above 3000 ft., you WILL experience longer cooking times. No getting around that. By the way, the temperature of water boils under 212F above 3000 ft. I use to work in metrology many years ago. I don't remember all the formulas now. But trust me when I say, at the altitude you mention, it will take longer and nothing is wrogn with you equipment.
  2. Re: Tamarind I guess I will take the advice of testing. It will be a little while before I post a result as I have to let this stuff dry. One thing I can say is, it is very dense and not easy to cut without a chain saw.
  3. I know Tamarind is used for cooking and for making charcoal. So my questioned can probably answered by Dennis. I just cut a very large Tamarind tree and wondered if the dried wood would be good for smoking?
  4. MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL THE KK GUYS AND LADIES.
  5. The island just received briquettes from South Africa. It is a type of hardwood that burns very hot. The bags indicate that maize (corn) is used as a binder. Since it is a natural substance, anyone think it should be avoided in the KK and why?
  6. Re: Some truly valuable information..... My guess is a bunch!
  7. Re: Any A/V experts on here? No sense in bothering to buy anything as there is really no advantage other than buying lamps. There could be savings there depending on frequency of lamp change and costs
  8. Re: Any A/V experts on here? The Panasonic has capability of HDMI, which will show a big difference when watching high definition programs or media. HD broadcasts and blu-ray DVDs will be signifcantly clearer. It depends more of what your viewing media is all about. Regular broadcasts and DVDs would not need the HDMI capability offered by the Panasonic.
  9. Re: Three Extruder Machines are in the House! If it is possible, let me know so I can get payment to you. I will deal with whoever here on Mahe. Thanks, Larry
  10. Re: Three Extruder Machines are in the House! Dennis, If you are ever get to Mahe or the vicinity again, let me know in advance. I would love to try extruded charcoal.
  11. My pin is so far from civilization, it give the feeling of the Maytag repairman.
  12. Happy Birthday and have an energetic 50 more!
  13. I would like to wash my KK cover. What restrictions to cleaning solutions are there? The cover is white or off-white.
  14. Computer Help You could buy an inexpensive machine that does not have to be the latest and greatest and have Linux OS installed. Similar operating system to Mac with no cost for software as it is free for the most part. I was going to buy a Mac to get away from Microsoft and all the problems, but changed to Linux and have not had any problems since.
  15. Coconut Charcoal I will never be able to use the Coconut charcoal, but from what every one says it must be great. It sounds like a potential business, if done in the U.S. and a decent marketing plan is put in place.
