  1. Hi Susan, glad I could help. I love your Avatar, here is a picture of the Van Isle Boyz.... T Rex
  2. She is a 23" OTB. I wasn't sure whether I should go with the 19.5" or the 23" however Dennis steered me the right way. T Rex
  3. Hey Curly, be careful of what you wish for, too much of a good thing and it isn't special anymore........... T Rex

    RIBS

Holy cow Tucker, nice pork! I have a silly question for you, do you tent the ribs in foil for 20 minutes or so once they are done? I think that I may have commited a "mortal sin" by posting a picture having done this in another post.......... These darn KK's are so efficient that it looks like I will have to make some changes to my cooking habits... T Rex
  5. Prawning 101 For those of you that may not be familiar with the area where I live, Vancouver Island is located in British Columbia, Canada (we are about 25 miles across the water from where the Winter Olympics are currently taking place. The local prawns are Side Stripe Spot prawns however, they are commonly referred to as "bugs" locally, though somewhat different from the ones Dennis enjoys on his KK.... In order to catch prawns you will require traps, 400' plus of rope, weights, a "pot" puller and bait. The first thing that you need to find is a depth of around 300' with a relatively flat gravel bottom, done using the boats electronics. The traps are mostly constructed of stainless steel because of the salt water, are approximately 30" in diameter and covered with a mesh to prevent the prawns from escaping (once they find their way inside) with the intent of feasting on the bait pellets (compressed fish meal) that sit in a perferrated canister that allows the scent to permeate the area where the trap is sitting and allow the prawns to indulge. Typically a 5 lb. weight is attached to the first trap to anchor it to the bottom, another trap is hooked onto the mainline about 30' from the first one and they are let down to the bottom with a large float called a Scotchman, attached to the end of the line so that the traps may be located and retrieved after a 1.5 to 2 hour "soak". There is also an abundance of shrimp in our local waters however, these are caught by dragging a fine mesh net to catch them. Because shrimp are "vegitarians" unlike prawns which are "carnivores", it is not possible to use baited traps for shrimp. After the traps have "soaked" for the specified time one returns to the float and uses a "trap/pot puller" to bring the traps and prawns up from the 300' depth. ( a puller is typically a motorized winch which either runs off of the boats 12V power or in some cases the motors are fueled by gasoline) Because of their abundance we routinely pick out the largest and release the smaller ones to put some weight on for another day. Prawns live for 3 years, all start off as males and end up as females. I have unfortunately not yet figured out how to downsize my images so hopefully you will all bear with me. A couple of the pictures were taken from another forum I belong to, "Sportfishing BC" which should give you a better idea of what I am talking about.. I'l start off with a picture of the "Striper Sniper" my boat: This is a typical "prawn trap" taken from the other forum: This is an example of a "puller" taken from the same site: A couple of pictures of some more Side Striped Spot prawns I harvested: And finally a picture of a "crab trap" which is somewhat similiar to a prawn trap however, the fishing depth is usually anywhere from 50' to 150': Well what the heck, maybe a couple pictures of T Rex with a couple of salmon: Well perhaps some halibut to: Anyone for some redsnapper and ling cod...... Hope you enjoy the pictures, I could go on all day but fear Dennis would appropriately ban me from the site.......... T Rex
  6. Hmmmmmmm, I hadn't noticed the "generic" aspect of the add, just the heading.......... it's paid for so I guess I will have to sit and wait for it to arrive. I will advise as soon as it lands, keeping my fingers crossed. T Rex
  7. I have no idea if the "generic" one will work, this is the one that I purchased yesterday: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... K:MEWAX:IT This is not intended as spam so I hope I haven't broken any forum rules..... as you can tell I am very new to this forum. It was my understanding that the only piece one would use was the basket as Dennis so kindly includes the other parts with the KK. The motors are pretty easy to come by. T Rex
  8. Hi Conodo12, Dennis fixed the thread for me (thanks Dennis) so as soon as I get my Guru installed this morning, it will be Prawning 101 complete with pictures. I am still working on making all of my pictures smaller and with some luck it could happen today. I have to say that it will be very difficult to put a screw driver and hammer to the KK to get the plug out, one hates to screw with perfection! T Rex
  9. Well, I was sitting on the fence yesterday after finding these on eBay however, after Dennis' post I went ahead and bought one in case revival of the company takes longer than anticipated, if at all. Given the size of our family (2) I went with the 6" which I thought was well priced at $79. Very thoughtful of Dennis to include the E-Z Que parts with the KK, maybe the baskets will be manufactured in Indonesia one day..... T Rex
  10. Well, I totally agree with Dennis and the Whiz on this one. Going forward I can now drink the beer and still enjoy a very moist flavorful chicken.......... novel! T Rex
  11. I don't want to hijack FMs thread.... T Rex
  12. Thanks CM, I found a bunch on eBay and sent a PM to Firemonkey for his feedback...... T Rex
  13. Hi Loquitur, this is how I did it: 1. Locate a picture that you want to use and save it on your computer in your pictures. 2. Open up a free account with Photobucket (this is who I used however there are several others that are available as well) 3. Copy the picture from your computer to your Photobucket account. 4. Click on the Photobucket picture and click the IMG code. 5. Go back to the KK Profile site and go down to the bottom that deals with Avatar and insert the IMG code in the centre space. 6. Hit Submit A couple of notes, if the image you start with is too large it will not post or at least it wouldn't for me. Hope this helps.................... If a retired "Brain Dead Banker" can do it after two glasses of Shiraz, so can you! Good luck, T Rex
  14. Hey FM, nothing short of outstanding, Bravo! I love the recipe and guess what I will be cooking tomorrow......... to late to do it today as I have already taken out a nice slab of salmon from the freezer. Prawns and crabs are in abundance where I live to the extent that we have over done it with our current repertoire of recipes. Here is what 1.5 hours of prawning looks like in our local waters: and crabs...... T Rex
  15. Hey Primeats, Chicago, burrrrrrrrrrr. Vancouver Island is the retirement capital of Canada where you can ski, deep sea fish and golf all in one day..... We did get some snow this year, I believe it was in December and it was gone the next day. I will check out the web site and get it right yet. T Rex
  16. Hi, I need some help on selecting which EZ Que that I will need for the 23" OTB. I have found allot of info on 6" vs 8" but not about the size of the basket or length of the rod.......... Any help will be greatly appreciated. T Rex
  17. My second attempt on the KK was to try a Drunken Chicken. The bird was done at 250F for an hour then at 350F for another 45 minutes or so until the desired internal temperature was achieved. As most of you know, the skin was rubbery however, we don't eat the skin (cosmetics for pictures and flavor) and the meat was incredibly juicy. Mrs. T Rex doesn't care for the plate that I usually use in my pictures however we got this plate 32 years ago when we first got married and besides the fact that you can drop it without breaking it, there is a lot of sentimental value...... T Rex
  18. Well, let's see if this works. These are pictures of my first KK cook which turned out pretty darn good..... according to Mrs. T Rex T Rex
  19. Thanks FM, I will "monkey" with it and hopefully have some cook pictures up later today........ T Rex
  20. Hey LPT41, thanks for the kind words. Vancouver Island is a pretty big island.............. and I have not had the pleasure of meeting your friends. It would appear that there is another KK on Vancouver Island located in Nanaimo................. T Rex
  21. Hey Mguerra, I think the KK will Kick allot of Pork Butt up North... just a matter of time before my wife's friends at the stable discover it! T Rex
  22. Hey Dennis, no problemo, John is also working on a cover for my Weber, Bradley Smoker and Propane tank........ I have numerous pictures of the first few cooks and they all turned out pretty good, photos to follow.... T Rex
  23. Hey Dennis, I was referring to Johnnyboy that makes the covers, haven't named the KK yet........... All the cooks so far have gone well, I received my BBQ Guru today and picked up a couple of Pork Butts as well............ lookin forward to the weekend..... T Rex
  24. Hey Conodo, I would love to but I haven't figured it out to yet....... I have sent several to Johnnyboy, if that counts........ T Rex
