  1. Re: Estimated cook time - sirloin tip roast

One thing to go by, do not cook by time but by internal temp. I don't know how you like how you like you meat; Rare, Medium rare, or medium; but to me 140 would be rather high. I think you already know but your roast will continue to cook after you take it off and cover it.

Enjoy the cook and your meal.

  2. What is the best way to grill steaks on the KK ?

Main or Lower Grill ? On my Big Green Egg XL I would

sear on each side 1 1/2 - 2 minutes at high temp. Take them off and lower temp

and put back to cook to Med. Rare. I used to after searing

I closed vents and let it cook. Then open vents, burp the EGG. Too much smoky taste.

    Sorry for ranting.

Just trying to find the best way. Thanks.

  3. I want to fire up my KK for the first time today. So I decided to do Chicken Wings.

Then after that is done do the "Venting" thing at 450.

My questions are, direct or indirect, which grill, Main or the Higher one?

What temp ? I usually do them at 350 ?

    Thanks.

  4. Re: Un-crating..

Much ado about nothing. I was able to get my KK

off the pallet with a makeshift ramp/stairs

with plywood. I did notice the pry bar attached to the crate.

That made taking apart the crate.

I guess I made a big deal from how the KK is going to get into

the backyard to taking it off the pallet. Geeze !

Now the fun begins, taking off the shrink wrap and putting it together

    and firing the KK up.

  5. The Komodo Kamado finally came and we were able to get the outer crate off.

I have been able to take off the bottom pieces of wood of the base. Now the dilemma,

to take it off the pallet the front of the KK, there isn't enough room. So I am thinking

of taking it off from the rear side. Any problems with that ? From what I see the rear legs are less wide than the front.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks.

  6. Re: My First Brisket

When just using the Bottom Damper, can one control the Temperature ? On my EGG I start regulating the Temperature with the Lower Vent then if I need to get it lower I would put the DMFT on to control as well. So what is the best way to regulate the Temperature ? To get to 500 -600 degrees to grill a steak what would be the settings ?

    Thanks.

  7. I will be getting my KK next week hopefully before we go to Chicago next week. I was able to sell my Large BGE and still have the XL BGE. I also have a Charcoal Grill with the a Handle to crank the Charcoal up and down that I bought at Barbeques Galore. (That one was a big mistake on my part). So now I will have a Komodo Kamado, the XL BGE, and the "Mistake". I also have a Fire Magic Gas Grill as well. So the only the grill that was being used is the XL BGE for the most part.

So my question is do any of your other Grills get used ? Just curious.

Thanks. Enjoy a happy Grilling Week end.

  8. Since there is a Basket for the Lump Charcoal, where or how do you all put/place the Wood Chips/Chunks in the basket along with the lump charcoal ? How much ? From the BGE Forum it says not to use a lot, so I use 2 - 3 chunks.

When doing a Low and Slow how many chunks would or could be used?

I will have more questions as I soon as I get my KK. It is suppose to arrive tomorrow in the port. If not, no big deal. It will eventually get here.

    Thanks.

  9. I would like to know the size of the Crate the 23" KK that it comes in, please.

I have been thinking how I am going to get the KK into my backyard from going through the side gate to maybe the front

door. Depending on the size I think with the help of the driver and his Pallet Jack, if it fits through the front door then I am in good shape. If not, Side Gate and move it through the lawn. Maybe plywood on the lawn.

I know this isn't a big deal but the easier to get it into the backyard the better.

    Thanks.

  10. Re: Beef and Venison jerky

This might be a stupid question but the picture of the 2 pieces of charcoal between the metal rig, does that create a lot of heat temperature-wise ? On the Big Green Eggers Forum, they talk about Smoked Cheese and the low temps to smoke cheese. I was wondering would the same thing be done for Smoked Salmon/Lox ?

I am curious to know how much charcoal would be used for various cooks.

    Thanks.

  11. From the Naked Whiz Review the Grill size a a bit smaller than the XL EGG, not that should be a big difference. However with the three levels there is more space. When using your KK, do you use more than one level at times ? Which level do you use for steaks ? I notice the lower level would be good for searing steaks. What about the upper grill? When would that be used ? I know what I have on my EGG, from the Plate setter, the Cooking grill that came with the EGG, some accessories to hep raise the grill along with a grill with 4 carriage bolts to cook at higher into the Dome.

I hope I am not too wordy. I just have questions. Is there anybody here who has/had a BGE that can tell me the difference between the two. From what I see the outside of the KK is easier to touch when hot compared to the EGG.

When the EGG is hot it is hot on the outside. Does that mean with the KK, most of the heat stays in the INSIDE ? What is the hottest has your KK gotten ?

Does the 23' refer to the grill ?

    Thanks again.

  12. So I look at all the color tile choices as well what is or might be in inventory. There are too many to choose from and with ADD it doesn't help. LOL. I even asked my 8 year old twins which ones they like. That didn't help.

I like the Cobalt Blue but that doesn't go well with the Green EGG, or does it ? Or does it really matter if they clash ?

I have no clue. I guess this should be the hardest decision I will ever have to make for the rest of my life but that ain't going to happen. It's all good.

I am trying to come to terms to selling one of my EGGs, the large. I like my XL too much and it has more grill space.

Enjoy your grilling this week end.

  13. Hello. I am new to this Forum. I already own two Big Green Eggs, a Large and an XL. I am considering adding to the Kamado Family by getting a Komodo Kamado. To me they are like a piece of art as well. I enjoy my EGGs but the KK is another animal. Yes it does the same thing as my BGEs. I just wonder is it overkill do get KK ? My wife doesn't get it, then again it was like climbing a mountain to get my first BGE, the XL.

    Any encouragement will be helpful.

    Thank you.
