gerard
I'm way behind the times but I've been good and deserve a new, reasonably priced toy. I've never used a torch of any kind to start a fire in a cooker. If the NakedWhiz had an article or review on the topic, I would be studying now. Since there isn't one, I'm having to wing it. These are on eBay and seem to go for a decent price: http://cgi.ebay.com/ROTHENBERGER-PRO-PROPANE-MAPP-TORCH-SET_W0QQitemZ380011487986QQihZ025QQcategoryZ67057QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Any thoughts? I presume a hose is handy or even critical so that the gas canister need not be inverted? If there is a better internet deal that you know of, please advise. Thanks in advance. cruzmisl
I use this ans it works perfectly, http://www.amazon.com/BernzoMatic-TS400 ... 979&sr=8-2 and it's cheaper. Not sure you need all the other "stuff"
gerard
Thanks Cruz. Just ordered the Bernzomatic unit. Thanks for the recommendation. I don't know why I was so worried about inverting the thing... seems stupid in hindsight.
ThreeDJ16
Gerard, currently this is one of the torches I use: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/d ... mber=91061 . Cheap and works great. I ran by Harbor Freight yesterday to look for a new one with a longer nozzle....no luck. They had the units that hooked up to a 20 lb bottle, but none that connected to a 14.1 oz bottle. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/d ... mber=91037 -=Jasen=-
primeats
I use that one now,( the bernzomatic)make sure you have a pair of welding gloves. I use a pair that go up to my elbow, really takes the sparks well.
Amphoran
The Bernzomatic is also available at your local Lowe's or Home Despot, often with a mapp gas cylinder in the package. There is also a more powerful version available with an adjustment wheel on the stem. It puts out about 40% more heat on full. Overkill for lighting charcoal, but necessary for some brazing and glassblowing tasks.
Farmer John
I use the harbor Freight one and I have to say you can be up and running in 5 minutes! It feels good to have a flame thrower. And to think it works on weeds and ice too!

reck_law
mapp or propane Hi All I use a combo mapp/propane torch I bought at HD. I found propane works as good 4 lighting my charcoal. takes 2-3 min to get a couple of places lit. I found that mapp was over kill and more expensive Jeff
