LarryR
I updated my Stoker software this morning as I wanted to tweet my cook this weekend but it doesn't look like the feature is quite there yet as I couldn't get it to save my Twitter settings. Anyone else had luck with this? If you thinking about trying it remember, the version is still in beta.
jdbower
Mine saved the settings and even sent out a Tweet during testing (no probes or fans, just on my desk). My hopes of a real test today were dashed - we got just enough sun to give us hope and now the heavens have opened and made me wish I wasn't the only house in the neighborhood without a boat. BTW: I have a dedicated Twitter account for my Stoker set up here http://twitter.com/jdbower_stoker Rock's BBQ seems to have an example account as well: http://twitter.com/rocksbarbque
LarryR
Got her working, on my Stoker the information disappears but evidently it is stored in Stoker. Also it appears you need to re-boot Stoker after you enter your info. (I don't read directions very well). I'm tweeting my 4th cook tomorrow. jdbower
I think this may be a bit too close to actual food porn - real-time status updates so we can all drool over what everyone else is doing. All we need now is webcam support. And wouldn't it be cool to have one that supports cooking temps so we can put it inside the cooker? jdbower
Out of curiosity, have you managed to get StokerLog to work on the latest firmware? I'm running 2.6.0.188 and StokerLog v5 (March 2009). When I connect it seems to be OK, but after it reads the web interface it says "No (Fire) control Probes found" - probably because the web interface changed a bit. I was hoping this was an issue with a dual cooker setup, but I removed the 10CFM fan and probe, rebooted, and have the same result. Silly me, I connected at my desk right after I upgraded and expected the "No probes" error so I thought it was working fine.
LarryR
Didn't think to test Stokrlog. Will know in two hours and will post.
LarryR
My rib cook is underway and same issue with Stokerlog and my Tweeting is not working either. After this cook I think I'll go back to the release version of Stokerware and ping Amir and see if he can add Twitter to Stokerlog. God my backyard smells amazing. Cherry and red oak wsing it down with ice cold Corona. It's 98 in the shade.
jdbower
I guess that's why they call it beta! If Amir needs any log files or other data from me I'd be happy to provide it (I get the "Automatic Temperature Control Systems" daily digests so I can monitor his status). I'm willing to suffer without StokerLog for a bit and I may play around with the Tweets more later. Curiously I managed to get one with nothing connected when I was testing, but nothing today either periodically or when I reached temp. LarryR
Maybe it's the beer talking but I'm going to do a real quick Firmware update mid cook so I can use Stokerlog.
LarryR
I think I hold the record for updating firmware mid-smoke 5 min. from when I disconnected the Stoker to when I reconnected to my cooker (I'm setup wireless and brought her in the house to connect directly to my router). Stokerlog is working flawlessly. Another Ice Cold Corona? Don't mind if I do
jdbower
You're either a very brave man or a very inebriated one!
LarryR
By looking at the number of empty beer bottles lined-up, I'd say the later. In-fact, when I was pining my Stoker I couldn't figure-out why I was getting 100% loss, well, it helps if you type in 192 vs. 102 for your IP address, DOH! jdbower
Ask and ye shall receive! I sent an email to Kaytat yesterday giving them a heads up that the Twitter additions broke StokerLog and today I see a new update: http://www.kaytat.com/ July 5, 2009 Revert web page to maintain compatibility with StokerLog. Twitter settings have now been moved to twitter.html. So, let's say your Stoker IP address is 192.168.1.10. And usually, you access the web page with "http://192.168.1.10". Now, the Twitter settings are located at "http://192.168.1.10/twitter.html" 2.6.0.191 I'll have to give it a try later today, two thumbs up for responsiveness on a holiday weekend! Edit - maybe I'll wait, there's also a .193 that they just posted Edit2 - got tired of waiting, .193 seems to give at least basic StokerLog support so now there's no reason to downgrade, have to do some more StokerLog testing to verify it's 100% working and to figure out why I'm not Tweeting. PaulR
I saw your tweets..Is it all working? Can you change what is being tweeted? or is it always in the format: Stoker:Food Probe 1*:72.3, Pit-19:67.
jdbower
Yep, it all seems to be working. The first Tweet take a bit longer to send, I'll have to time it to see if it's a factor of the period duration or just a startup issue (for example, it may be 4 minutes until the Stoker is fully booted and the timer starts or it could be that it misses the first Tweet, I believe it to just needs a little time to boot but with a 5 minute Tweet interval it's hard to say). You have the ability to adjust the "Stoker:" part, but that's mostly it. The periodic Tweet seems to be a rundown of the probe status, but you can also have it Tweet on an alarm. Sanny
If your stoker tweets when it's cooking chicken, is that cannibalism? Hmm... The philosophical mind wonders...
