Yet another Newbie on board

Recommended Posts

Since I guess I am expected to personalize my KK with a name, I'm thinking of "The Fire Opal", if it really is an aquamarine color.

If it's more of a true blue, I'm at a loss. Maybe "The Blueferno"?

Elmo. :) If anyone asks, you can say, "St Elmo's Fire, of course." Everyone knows that Sesame Street's Elmo is Red.

If I name "them"??? I only ordered one! :laughing3:

You must have a couple of Webers, right? How about "Big Steve and the twins?"

"Big Steve and the Twins" sounds like a good name for a Punk Rock Band, or perhaps the name of a porn flick. Left Sanny speechless......

:smt118

I DID have a couple of Webers --- a regular 20" and a little "Smokey Joe". I still have the 20", but it will be looking for a new home soon.

If you have the room, it is probably worth holding on to the 20". You can use it as a chimney starter surface, or extra cooking space in those rare times you need it. Or it can simply be there to remind you of life before your KK ;-)

We used to use one as a fire pit in the back yard without the legs. The nice thing is yoiu could cook over it if you wanted to( our village bans any open fires outdoors unless you cook over it...we have a stale bag of marshmallows hanging in the garage next to the hotdog forks). Another plus is the lid to snuff out the fire.

"Red Hot & Blue" is a local BBQ chain, started by the late Lee Atwater. They have great Memphis style BBQ, authentic blues tunes, and a really good collection of vintage posters from blues shows of the past.

"Blue Flame Special" is a rocket powered Bonneville streamliner propelled by natural gas, went over 1000 mph in the 70's. It was also a speciial edition 1954 Corvette, feature three side-draft carburetors. According to the Urban Dictionary, it is also slang for an ignorant oversexed teen --- exactly what I see when I look in the mirror! Well, in my mind's eye, maybe.

"Crystal Blue Persuasion" was an eminently forgettable tune by Tommy James and the Shondells. Maybe I should call the KK "Crystal"??

The "Azure Dragonshrine" is the shrine of the blue dragonflight and is located in the Dragonblight. Since the start of the Nexus War, Malygos has been diverting Azeroth's ley lines to the shrine, empowering his flight's dragons. His actions are of terrible consequence though as he is ripping the fabric of reality apart. (I swear I'm not making this up)

WOW! Now we're getting somewhere! I can't WAIT to rip the fabric of reality apart with some really HOT BBQ! Let the dragonflight begin!

Well, if you're into dragons.... Saphira.

(From the Inheritance Cycle - Eragon, Elder, Brisingr, and a book to be named later - by Christopher Paolini.)

She's a beautiful blue dragon.

Me and Katie (10 yr old) saw the movie Eragon...we've been waiting forever for the second one...where is it?

Hey, Hitman!

Not that forgettable.....(where is that humming emoticon??)

You've got lots of cool names going on there but my favorite is Fire Opal.

"Saphira" should be delivered tomorrow. The first "cracked" KK is still sitting in my driveway, blocking the entrance to my stairs. Hopefully the delivery guy will move it out of the way before he wheels up the new delivery.

This time I am going to pry off the top pf the crate, make sure there was no damage, BEFORE I sign the delivery papers and let the truck get away.

New KK was delivered today without a problem, sitting in my driveway next to the first one. Hope Dennis sells it soon so I can have my driveway back.

I had the same delivery driver as before, so he was pretty patient while I took the top off the crate to make sure there was no damage with this cooker. Luckily, it was perfect. Here's the two cookers, side by side.

Note that by this time I had almost completely disassembled the shipping crate. I loosened the 8 wood screws at the bottom, broke out the bottom board, and was able to lift off the entire crate by myself. Then I completely disassembled every board, removed all the screws, etc. WHen I was done I had the four vertical 2"x2" posts which I can use tomorrow to move the cooker. I am having new siding put on my house, and my contractor called today to say they would be delivering the siding tomorrow, and starting the install on Thursday. He said his guys would help me move the KK into my backyard and onto the patio.

Here's a better view of the cooker. It is a very nice powder blue, with no greenish overtones. So much for the "Fire Opal" as a name. I removed all the innards and the dome spring, so it's all ready to be put into position!

Congrats! If they're moving it by hand I'd recommend emptying it out first to make it lighter. You can also remove the lid (both making it lighter and less top heavy). Finally, the crate materials may not be the strongest stuff out there (although Dennis' crates are pretty darn sturdy!) so I'd probably double up on the siderails, if you don't have 2x4s handy use a pair of the side supports on either side for a little more strength. And wrap them in a moving blanket of some sort to protect the tiles - one of our members learned that lesson.

Thanks for the tips --- mguerra has also done so via PM, so thanks to you both. I have removed all the grates, baskets, and assorted hardware from inside the cooker, and pulled the pin from the lid. I will take great care with cushioning the cooker to make sure no tiles are damaged.

I was somewhat astonished by all of the different items that come with the cooker, several of which I will need to research.

What is needed is an "Owner's Manual", perhaps in a downloadable PDF format. I'm sure that much of the relevant information is already available on the website, but it would me nice to have it consolidated into a more convenient format.

I am planning to take a bunch more pictures, and then post them onto a website where everyone can see them. This website tends to be a little slow, and doesn't handle large-format photos very well.
