A dense ceramic (portland or glazed) material by definition is NOT insulating. But they are correct in saying that they are more insulated than the thin walled metal cookers.. Welcome to the land of common sense design.. All Komodo's have a purposely designed for insulating jacket outside the dense refractory material inside.. The light layer is the dense refractory material designed to contain temps up to 2,200ºF. The darker layer is the insulating material..
