cruzmisl Posted July 30, 2009 Report Share Posted July 30, 2009 Hi All, As you know I repaired my cookers latch area with JB Weld. Repair worked great but the JB Weld is grey and the surrounding grout is black. I filled in the remaining depression with black grout but had an idea. I bought some black dye made for epoxy which makes the JB jet black. Should I chip out the grout and fill entirely with the black JB or leave well enough alone? It will surely be harder but wondering if its worth the trouble. I'm just concerned about winter and the freeze thaw cycles popping the grout. Thoughts? jdbower Posted July 30, 2009 Report Share Posted July 30, 2009 Well, if you're happy with the grout color I'd probably leave it as is. If it does pop out over the winter you know how to fix it, since it's cosmetic anyway there should be no damage done if it needs to wait for next spring. My biggest concern with the JB Weld is that it may come up as a gloss black instead of matte, maybe if the grout pops out you can also try mixing in some powder (graphite?) to even out the texture and just apply it to the top surface rather than digging out the old stuff? Firemonkey Posted July 30, 2009 Report Share Posted July 30, 2009 Black RTV silicone is a spot on match for the black grout. The high temp rtv is rated at 600 degrees, just like the jb. Maybe just skim a light layer of rtv over the jb you have now.
