cruzmisl
See here, http://www.komodokamado.com/forum/viewt ... highlight= regarding a great motor. As far as which size cradle, I use the 6" since its just my wife and I. I can fit two 4lb chickens on it or a 7-10lb roast, depending on the shape. The 8" seemed too big but it would be perfect for a turkey or large capon.
danioro
Thanks for the tip! I ordered the motor. Did you get the 6" cage from Viking? Dan
bryan
I got the 8" from them and it works great.
danioro
Maybe I'll just get both. Happy Burpday to me!
bryan
They are like insurance. Nice to have when you need it. The KK is made to use these units. It only cost a little more to go 1st class. Go for the gold. I consider my 6 and 8" units as part of the KK as designed by Dennis.
cruzmisl
Hey if you can swing both go for it! YOu won't be disappointed with the motor though. Works really well for me.
danioro
Got the motor from onegrill and the 6 and 8" cages came from Viking yesterday. They had EZ-Que etched all over the end! In retrospect, I think EZ-Que probably has a better profit margin or marketing agreements selling to 3rd party sellers like Viking. That is the only reason I can see why they NEVER have cages in stock for sale to shlubs like me. TONIGHT - roti chicken herbed the way I like it and spuds in the drip pan to roast and catch all that good schmaltz drippin down from the bird! YUMMMO! Can't wait. I'll let y'all know technique and how it turned out.
cruzmisl
Nice! I have a sweet set up for rotisserie cooking. I'll update with the most current technique sometime this week.
preferredshares
mounting motor make sure when you mount the motor that the mounting bracket is square -- if it is bent too much or not enough (not at a right angle) then the shaft can go too far in or not far enough into the hole. When the motor is mounted it should be verticle with no angle slanting in or away from the KK. I bought both the 6 inch and 8 inch basket. I love it ... something i missed with the BGE (now sitting in the side yard, seriously outclassed). Enjoying my KK in New Orleans
Syzygies
In my pre-ceramic days I was six months in a rental visiting Berkeley, CA, and sharing a good gas grill with my upstairs landlords. They're friends; I'm still assigned to the grill at parties there. The one-who-cooks is Korean, and while sauced ribs is not normally my style, she makes the most incredible Korean / California fusion marinades. Her descriptions don't convey her sense of balance; I can't reproduce what she does. How she goes about ribs is all-wrong by BBQ competitor group-think, but boy do crowds devour them. A gas grill has nothing on a KK, but I made the best of it. I bought a rotisserie for it, and by far our favorite food this way was whole chicken, light smoke, Hawaiian red sea salt and black pepper on the skin. There was a party of fifty that set on three birds in as many minutes; Laurie and I only got to taste as we carved. Good thing Hyungsook had lots of other food. Since then, we've cracked the code on one way to make chicken on a ceramic cooker that we love, but it's not the same, and why not have some variety? So we're reading this thread with great interest, we'll probably take the (minor, after the KK) plunge...
mguerra
more info Can you tell us more about her Korean/ California fusion marinades and her all wrong technique? Your best guesses if you don't know for sure. Could be a good jumping off point for some experimentation.
danioro
A question forthe gadget headz Ok so here's the thing My rotisserie motor rotates in the wrong direction! The motor pin unscrews and the basket eventually falls out. Any way to reverse the polarity or otherwise reverse the direction of rotation?? Amphoran
Screw it in with a lot of torque and it will hold. You need to get it seated against the bottom of the socket so it puts lateral thrust on the threads. Cheers, Mike
danioro
Hmmmm I thought the idea was that the direstion of rotation actually tended to tighten the assembly. Silly me. It would seem to make more sense that way. Anyone know how to reverse polarity on the motor?
cruzmisl
I've never had any issues with mine........just be sure the roti inserts are tight.

tlemmen
Do you even need a roti for a KK? What are you guys doing with a roti that doesn't work without it?
Sanny
Do you even need a roti for a KK? What are you guys doing with a roti that doesn't work without it? "Need" is such a pesky little word. Four letters and all. If one were to really look at "needs," would one even have a KK? So, let's not bring THAT into it! tlemmen
Alright then. I retract my first question. Your right about that. But what about the second question?
