DennisLinkletter Posted February 6, 2011 Report Posted February 6, 2011 A round heart deflector will of course not fill a modified heart shaped area... So does it not make sense to have an OTB shaped heat deflector? This is a photoshopped image.. The prototype was made to be the exact size of the inside of the heat deflectors outside/top flat area. About 15" deep and 16" wide. KK-OTB-deflector.jpg[/attachment:2q4lwv1h]
Duk Posted February 6, 2011 Report Posted February 6, 2011 Re: Whatcha think? OTB Shaped Heat Deflector I would say YES
DennisLinkletter Posted February 6, 2011 Author Report Posted February 6, 2011 Re: Whatcha think? OTB Shaped Heat Deflector DJ reminded me that the mind is the first thing to go.. Then pointed out the fact that I've had this great idea before.. Seems that good ideas are repetitive.. or possibly just redundant? Click on this: OTB shaped heat deflector - Oct 2006 I'm also thinking that a large OTB shaped Baking Stone that just fits inside the handles of the upper would give one maximum baking real estate on the upper...
rorkin Posted February 6, 2011 Report Posted February 6, 2011 Re: Whatcha think? OTB Shaped Heat Deflector Yes on the heat deflector as I find when I cook a full load of ribs, I have to be careful about burning around the edges .More form fitting deflector might help that.. As to the baking stone.. Depends on what you make but people make round pizza and bread so I think the extra real estate would go unused except for perhaps a bunch of small items being baked.. FWIW
ThreeDJ16 Posted February 6, 2011 Report Posted February 6, 2011 Re: Whatcha think? OTB Shaped Heat Deflector DJ reminded me that the mind is the first thing to go.. Actually, I said it is usually the second thing to go....as the old joke goes. But I voted yes then and still like the idea now. -=J
slu Posted February 6, 2011 Report Posted February 6, 2011 Re: Whatcha think? OTB Shaped Heat Deflector Come up with an OTB shaped heat deflector and drip pan and I'll purchase both! Currently I use an array of quarry stones and kiln shelves to customize my heat defector.
Amphoran Posted February 6, 2011 Report Posted February 6, 2011 Re: Whatcha think? OTB Shaped Heat Deflector I think that would be a big improvement; it should block all direct radiant heat. I'd certainly buy one! Mike

rorkin Posted February 7, 2011 Report Posted February 7, 2011 Re: Whatcha think? OTB Shaped Heat Deflector ???? Yes .. I was agreeing with its superiority to the round one. don't understand your question

Paswesley Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 Re: Whatcha think? OTB Shaped Heat Deflector This is a great idea, Dennis. I am curious about how this change in shape will affect convection, if at all. I say make a working prototype and see what comes of it.
