We just took delivery of a cherry kitchen table from our neighbor, who's a professional woodworker (and has my old K7 as a hand-me-down). I'm a hobbiest (not in your league!) but I can't imagine making the top he made, a 30" by 40" slab of cherry the thickness of butcher block. I've been to the store (MacBeath Hardword) where he got the cherry pieces, and it comes rough cut, needing more machinery than would fit into my first apartment to reach its final form.
