These would be my first real steaks.

I understand what you are saying about that but then I look at the plate as a whole and figure what I would spend at a decent steak restaurant. The cost then doesn't seem so high and you're eating a better meal.

Awesome steaks - perfectly done which is no mean feat the first time you do steaks on any new cooker/technique.
You did the first bit indirect I assume?
How hot / which grate did you do the hot sear on?

They turned out great as for cost it will be way cheaper for those size cuts to cook at home compared to a restaurant where they will charge for a smaller size cut if I can get two nice sized steaks for $30 I'm happy not every night but beats take away

The first bit was technically direct- on the main grate at at about 250. I flipped the steak halfway through. It's hard to get an exact temp for the sear but I had the vent wide open while I took the main grate out and patted the steaks dry. It was on the lower grate with high heat (I closed the vent a little so it wasn't too wild).
