  1. I agree, completely unnecessary. Moisture retention is the best part of KK cooking. I swear it makes better roast chicken than any standard oven.

  2. One thing I’ve been very impressed with Smaug is how much moisture is retained when cooking. During a cook I’ll lift the lid to do something or other, and I’ll feel the warm moist air coming out of the grill. I’m talking fog-my-glasses-up levels of moisture. I have a hard time believing a water pan would be of any additional benefit in a KK grill.

  3. ^ I am not a butcher but my limited understanding: Ribeye meat is from the upper and inside portion of the rib section. Whereas short ribs are from the outer portion and lower, plate section, of the rib cage. I don't think ribeye meat is the same as any meat marketed as "short rib" meat be it bone-in or boneless. If you try to quick grill short ribs, like you would a ribeye, I think you'd discover the chewy difference.

  4. Looking back at my emails, I placed my order on Aug. 25. The grill came from Indonesia to the US, and got to the Port of Los Angeles Sept. 24. There was a delay because the Port of Los Angeles caught fire right at that time (just my luck). The grill made it out on a truck Oct. 3, and my grill got to me in New Jersey on Oct. 9. I got updates from Dennis every step of the way. So minus the fire, it was probably 5 weeks for me. Either way, it was completely worth the wait. The way I look at it, I went 11 weeks from June until August after placing an order for another kamado grill without knowing where it was or when I might expect to receive it. And even when I ultimately cancelled that order, I still didn't have a delivery date of any kind. So comparatively speaking, I was way ahead going with a KK grill.

  5. Good call on the basket splitter. It is an absolute must. I use it 75% of the time and it makes direct to indirect and reverse searing a breeze.

  6. It is well worth it but i can second some of the comments about the accessories that are worth while getting. The Pizza stone if you like pizza or bread just makes the whole unit an amazing pizza oven. (Friends rate ours with the best they have had anywhere in the world ) The side tables are just great if you dont have it built in. The charcoal splitter, if you are thinking of this then get the second basket as having to move the un-burnt coal around to try to fit it in when you just want to do a half basket is very messy and a pain. (I still have one basket and it is what i have to do) and the covers are great. Just make sure you tell Dennis to leave enough room for the side tables Do it and have fun and many great cooks

  7. Hay CC sorry that post was a bit tongue in cheek and no way a dig at Dennis. I have to say that Dennis has the best customer support and manufacturing that i have seen. The products that he builds are built to last and just amazing
