  1. I do that sort of thing, but at 325-350. I don't think there is any advantage to doing leg of lamb low and slow. It is almost impossible to dry it out. Looks good!
  2. I love my Shun santoku knife. The only complaint is the gold "shuh" on the blade wore off, LOL!
  3. I have posted a review of the DigiQ II on my website, FWIW: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/productreviews ... digiq1.htm I still have some work to do on observing the performance at low and slow temps, and I want to do some more playing with Open Lid Detect feature, but most of the work is done. I hope this helps.
  4. Welcome! Don't worry too much about asking questions. This is a pretty loose bunch of folks here. Glad to see you are enjoying your cooker and it's good to get first hand eye-witness accounts of Dennis and his facilities! You can keep him honest,
  5. I think he should send me a pair of coco bolo S & P shakers so I can do a product review for the website, dontcha think?
  6. Real ceramics came after they got their Eggs? Say what?
  7. I think that is all there is to see, Curly!
  8. If I get some free time, LMAO, would I contact you about about getting some of the almond charcoal to do a review? I don't know how I missed seeing that all this time. lol!
  9. Sanny, knowing Shotgun Fred, any color you want, lol!
  10. I'm lucky number 13! I can behave like a thirteen-year-old!
  11. Gerard, you are right. Silly me. I even went out and bought a throwaway panasonic digital camera because the wife took the little one I use for reviews to England. I'm a dunderhead! However, Scooby the Wonderdog knows it happened!!!! Woof! Woof! (Translation: "Good burnt ends!")
  12. Congratulations! I hope it gets their soon. I did a brisket overnight last weekend and it turned out mighty fine.
  13. Hey Trish, I've got one of those manly black textured cookers too. And the weather is nicer than where Porkchop lives.
  14. I've still got two pieces from my wood working days. I'd have to go look but I think I have 2 feet of 1x12 and maybe 2 feet of 2x8. What does it cost a bd/ft these days? My pieces are probably 20 years old now.
  15. Black, textured, OTB. Send me a PM or email from my webpage if you want to contact me.
  16. Of course, until I get my hands on some and can do the exact same things in the same place and weigh on the same scale, yada yada yada... Then there is also the burntime to consider. I will look forward to being able to get a few boxes in retail packaging and doing a formal review. There's been a lot of focus on extruded coconut lately.
  17. You don't really need to read very many reviews. Just the reviews for the brands you can buy locally. Also, you can go to http://www.nakedwhiz.com/lumprankpoll.htm to see a list of all the brands and what score I gave them, as well as what readers think. You can then narrow it down to the better ones. Good luck!
  18. U2Plt, I have your samples, but what I reviewed was the charcoal from Indonesia. As I understand it, Kamado was selling the Thailand charcoal in 2006 until ??? and now they are selling the charcoal from Indonesia. When did you get your charcoal from Thailand? Thanks! Incidentally, a few minutes ago, I updated the review to visually give an indication of the comparison in the volume of ash produced by the two charcoals (2003/Philipines and 2007/Indonesia), as well as results on the weight of the ash produced.
  19. I usually use my large Egg. (I have 3 eggs, 1 KK) but I'm trying to use the KK more. I like having lots of room. The small egg is almost exclusively for the charcoal burn/ash testing, and the medium egg is almost exclusively for the max temp testing. (I'm too lazy to clean them out after cooking so I can run a test, lol) As for charcoal, I have so much lying around, I use whatever is in front.
  20. The BGE now comes with (and has for at least 6 years) two tops, the ceramic rain cap, and the dual-function metal slider (also known as the daisy wheel). The daisy wheel is quite adjustable and doesn't fall off like the ceramic cap obviously would if you used it at an angle.
  21. I think the 159 price doesn't include the blower and adapter. A competitor with blower and adapter was around 225 as I remember.
  22. The test was comparing in a visual and side by side way, the ash produced by 2003 EC vs 2007 EC. I was just struck that the cooker could get that hot from only 9 pieces of burning EC. And I have a WhD, not a PhD,
  23. FWIW, I spoke with Fred today and he isn't sure about the 700 degree number. They may back off of that once he gets a chance to review it. But still, a great little package. I should be getting one to do a review soon, I hope.
