  1. Well, I have mixed emotions about this first cook. First, man it looks good !!!! It was very juicy in the middle. The problem is that nice thick line of grizzle running right through the middle. As long as I carved around the grizzle it was good. I pulled it off the grill at 163 degrees as the household likes their beef almost well done. Next time I might try 158 or 160, I like it a little pink. However, as done as it was, it was still very tender and juicy. The fam was impressed to say the least. Now that this first cook is out of the way, it will pave the way to some good Q this weekend !!!! Thanks for all your help. This forum has taught me so much in a short amount of time. Good eats !!!!
  2. Now thats funny !!!! Anyway, I just tapped through with a screwdriver, looks like it had a very thing layer of the refractory material and then some mushy kind of filling. Came right out. I had to straighten my food probe for my maverick a little so it would fit through, but other than that no problems. On a side note, I take back what I said in another post about my maverick having poor range, it reaches all the way into the kitchen and still has a strong signal. I think my older 2.4ghz phone might have been interfering with it. I upgraded to a 5.8ghz since the last time i used it, so maybe that was it?
  3. Temp was right at 350 degrees until I opened it up to put on the roast. (not bad for a noob!!). Nothing special, just Kosher Salt, Fresh Ground Pepper
  4. I knew I wouldn't be able to cook the meat till this weekend and didn't want to risk the store being out of it before hand. I'll take it out of the freezer tonight so it has time to thaw out. Figured that was better than it going bad (dates weren't that forgiving !!)
  5. Re: Polder Port does not go all the way through Its the smaller port near the rim in front of the rotisserie bracket on the right of the cooker. I can look into the hole from the outside and it appears to have a metal lining, but you do not see the hole on the inside of the cooker. Found this picture of it from DJ's Torch Mod Post.
  6. I'm pretty sure I just need to poke it through, but I just wanted to make sure before I take a tool to my new $3000 toy . The polder port is closed on the inside of the KK. Should I just take a philips screwdriver and tap it through from the outside? Thanks, Bob.
  7. I always thought the pictures looked good when I was shopping for my KK, but it wasn't until I saw it in person when I truly understood what a piece of art this thing is. Great craftsmanship, everything fits precisely so you don't have to "jimmy" anything to get it to fit.
  8. IT MOVED Its on the patio and completely reassembled !!! Pictures to come soon, gotta put the kids to bed.
  9. As good as that sounds, I'll drink once its on the patio, otherwise it'll never get moved I had a shot of espresso instead (see avatar)
  10. Well, its still in the crate, but its here !!! We will be cracking that open in about 2 hours. Edit... Ok, here are more pictures... After looking at these, they really didn't come out good. I'll take some better ones tomorrow. I was a "little" tired. Dragó lost his lid for a little while Decapitated !! Much easier to move this way Disemboweled It burped up some chunks... Don't get excited, the ball isn't a new accessory It looks lonely in the corner, I need to do something there, pond or fountain or something? Dragó flashing his goods Another one of the goods Oh well, I'm gonna pour a nice cold one and finally relax. Who am I kidding, its 12:27am, I'm gonna drink it and pass out !!!
  11. Funny you should mention that. Got two butts and 4 racks of baby backs in the freezer !!! Picked em up yesterday at Bj's, Cryovac with 2 butts, 15lbs. That should make 2 nice cooks. Think I'll do the usual BBQ on the first one, and the 2nd one I'll do Cuban. Gotta love Mojo Pork !!! Figured I'd do the baby backs first since you really can't screw those up. I'll do spare ribs next time. I asked the guy at BJ's about the Chuck Roll and he had no idea what I was talking about. Guess I'll have to go to my local butcher and get one. Torchios Finer Meats, place has been in Boynton Beach since I was a kid.
  12. Talk about a lazy SOB. Not even for $40 would the driver use his pallet jack to help me put the KK on the back patio. Said it won't go across grass, its too heavy, boo f$%#king hoo. Oh well, he lost out on 40 bucks and that money will go to my 3 coworkers coming over after work. Said my peace.

    Pulling pork

I'm hoping they will keep me from losing arm hair everytime I have to reach into the grill !!! My gasser was notorious for that. Ahhh, one more day !!!
  14. Hopefully I will have as nice of a driver. I got some Andrew Jacksons for him if he does help me get it back there !!! I only have th e St. Augustine, no sand, so it sounds doable. Thanks !!
  15. Fantastic Job !!! I can't think of anything you could have done better. You know you did a good job plugging the product when the TV Station Hosts were more interested in the Komodo than they were in the grilling tips you were there to provide! I do have one question though, how the heck did you get it there? My KK is being delivered tomorrow and I'm sweating just having to move it across the grass to the back patio !!!
  16. Charcoal Rails I think these might be what you have? http://store.weber.com/items/?pid=1102
  17. I got 3 10lb bags of Royal Oak Lump sitting high and dry in my nice hot Sofla garage waiting for the KK. Its 95 today and its not even summer yet.
  18. Nothing. New KK won't be here till Monday or Tuesday
  19. Well said. My taylor "instant read" does take forever to climb to the meats temp. Never worried about it much with the old gasser, but with the KK arriving in about 2 days, I might need to upgrade to the Thermoworks.
  20. I use the Maverick ET-73 for low and slows and a Taylor #508 Digital Instant Read Thermometer for checking temps when cooking chicken.
  21. That sounds like good advice. I'll stick to a pork butt for first low and slow, been there done that more than a few times, so should be a good starter for me on the KK. Now that is good news, I see some beer and Delmonico's on homecoming night !!
